Hello from Kanto! 😁 (First Pokémon game I played) I don’t think there’s a Pokémon game based off of my area yet. I was born in Oregon. Specifically Salem. So the Willamette Valley area but the forest part on the way to Independence, not the city area. Now I’m in a rural/suburban mix town. Still in the Willamette Valley though

Riolu and Lucario were introduced in Gen 4, but the only way you could get one in Sinnoh was for Riley to give you an Egg. But they could be found in the wild in Hisui (ancient Sinnoh), implying that they became an endangered species.

@Alan I take the remaining region dex entries with less than a grain of salt: BUT I will believe in Laventon's dex wholeheartedly.
The fact Omanyte is the ancestor to Octillery's line doesn't mean that Octillery isn't native from Johto. Omanytes could change and evolve over time as they changed locations and expanded around the world. With how close Johto is from Kanto, it's totally possible for a comunity of Omanytes (or of a different especies that evolved from Omanyte) to travel to Johto and keep changing and evolving there.
I think this is one time where the anime seems more likely to be reality since I feel like a lot of things like starters not being in the wild is more of a game mechanic then anything
I think Spinarak is from Alola. They are more common there (counting their evolution too) and they are based on the happy face spider, a spider endemic to Hawai'i

It's clear to me that will have a south american/Brazilian region. It was kinda confirmed in mew's Pokedex, besides that, quaxly/quaquaval (carnival dancer), hitmontop (capoeira fighter), cottonee/whimsicott (a Brazilian folklore), and zarude (probably from the amazon jungle), and many others that makes reference to Brazil.
@Venemofthe888
Жыл бұрын
I always thought Zarude could have been from the lush jungle as a protector of sorts before becoming a trial site
Quaxly is probably from a brazillian region, since quaquaval is the single most brazillian pokémon ever created. Brazil is a whole ocean away from the Iberic Peninsula (which Paldea is inspired by, it isn't just Spain, but Spain AND Portugal), so the "from distant lands" quote fits, and since Brazil was colonized by Portugal, it would tie nicely as to why Quaxly is present in the Paldea region.
@nickdentoom1173
Жыл бұрын
But here is the thing though. Quaxly is based on the Crested Duck: The Crested is a breed of domestic duck. It was probably brought to Europe from the East Indies by Dutch ships.[3]: 413 It has its appearance because it is heterozygous for a genetic mutation causing a deformity of the skull. The Indies refers to various lands in the East or the Eastern hemisphere, particularly the islands and mainlands found in and around the Indian Ocean by Portuguese explorers. So Quaxly is most likely from the East Indies.
@matheuscastro990
Жыл бұрын
@@nickdentoom1173 That is indeed the animal it is inspired by. But the brazilian carnival references in quaquaval are undenyable, with even it's name being a mixture of "qua qua" (the brazilian onomatopoeia for the sound that ducks make) and "carnaval" (the portuguese word for carnival). With the portuguese being the ones that brought the crested duck do Brazil, quaxly can still be a crested duck while being from a region inspired by Brazil (one thing does not exclude the other). Now, because the crested duck is not native to Brazil, a regional "original" form of quaxly, quaxwell and/or quaquaval could still exist in a region inspired by the east indies (much like galarian zigzagoon being the original zigzagoon). But as far as the current quaquaval, it makes a lot more sense for it to be brazilian, especially since the connections it has to the brazilian carnival are stronger (at least with quaquaval) than the ones with the crested duck.
@nickdentoom1173
Жыл бұрын
@@matheuscastro990 Like... it can have been brought to Paldea from the East Indies and then brought to a Brazilian (South American region, where it regained its original Quaquaval form). Wouldn't it be funny if we get a regional form for Quaxly/Quaquaval inspired by an Asian region Legends Game, Johto perhaps.
Great video Dobbs. Keep up the great work. Love your videos and personality.
Always thought that the OG starters had a more exotic, tropical feel than a lot of the other Pokémon from gen 1
My head cannon is that starter pokemon come from the regions of Pokemon Ranger games, like Fiore from the first one. In those regions, the starters from generations 1 to 4 (the ones available when Ranger games were launched) can be found in the wild, and it explicitly explained that Pokemon trainers are not allowed in those regions. So, it would make sense that professor Pokemon can obtain starter Pokemon from the rangers on Fiore.

If Island Scan is a viable way to determine a Pokemon is native to a region, then why not also Pokemon encountering features such as PokeRadar? They're used to get Pokemon don't naturally spawn to become catchable. So what makes one an indicator of region of origin while the others don't?
Sizzlipede is only in ONE area in Galar, not all over the place. Raid Dens do not count since those are totally random and not on a set encounter pattern.
Metagross could be native to Unova as well, since they're found in the Giant Chasm in both BW/BW2

I think I get why it makes sense because octillery is octopus even though it's pre-evolution is a fish but you're telling me is also related to a ammonite
I firmly believe that Larvesta & Volcarona are not native from Unova, but from Alola, because the Pokedex states that they are native from Volcanic bases, and although Unova has a volcano, you can't find neither Pokémon in the wild, and to further add to this, Alder and his grandson are the ONLY people in Unova to use a Volcarona, with NO ONE, using Larvesta through the games they were introduced or their sequels

Agreed. Heck, Zorua is not native to Unova either, since you can only get it via in-game and cannot catch it. The only region you can find Zorua in are Paldea and Alola (Yes... i know you can get it in Hoenn... but you can only do it after having captured or completed Groudon, which means its a bonus capture and not actual one intended for the game specifically, so that is why i don't count it for the Galar DLC either).

@@nickdentoom1173 absolutely yes, I also consider Zorua to not be native to Unova either Also, I wanted to correct something I said in my original comment There is ONE trainer in B2W2 that have a Larvesta in her team, but I believe they did this because Larvesta is literally impossible to see before the Post-Game, and you need to breed the Volcarona that you got in order to see the thing Is funny but tragic how Larvesta and Zorua are the rarest Pokémon in their debut region 😭😭😭😭 (Zorua is rarer)
11:29 it’s name sounds like “Shell lost” too :)
I think Yungoos and Gumshoos are actually from Paldea as it’s newly added dex entries that we haven’t gotten since Alola don’t state anything about it being foreign to Paldea unlike Alola which is a first for this line.

True. And Rattata aren't there either, so they don't need pest control, meaning its easier to take Yungoos away from their.
The Great Marsh appears to have been built over an existing ecosystem so it's very likely the Sinnoh Pokemon found there are native.
Regional variants of pokemon and usually their dex entries will answer if that is their native form (such as with Alolan Executor actually being the original form) or a form they evolved later on after being introduced/imported (Alolan Grimer/Muk). So when you're theorising stuff about Alolan Grimer/Muk, your answer was literally right in front of you.
1:30 The alien detector is clearly detecting fairies. It detects Misty as an alien because she's carrying Togepi.
i always thought that the ralts line might be native to either sinnoh or kalos because of how much easier they are to find
Iv been looking for where togepi is from for years. Looking it up everyone says johto. Thanks dobbs
Can't believe I missed the shiny zeraora event
I think Eevee is from Kalos, since it was the first place where it is a pretty common encounter, and since it's a popular pokemon it might have been exported as pets to other regions like Paldea, Unova, and Kanto (the one in Silph).
Dunno if its already said: but Lapras is actually available every Friday not Wednesday
i thought that perhaps Riolu was native to Unova, considering that black and white 2 is the first game you find it in wild. (and very early on I might add.) and I forget what the animation was called but the male protagonist is shown primarily using Lucario when team plasma attacks and freezes Opalucid city. But again, like you said some of these can be hard to pin down
Carnivine can be found in the wild in legends arceus so it is definitively from sinnoh
Hm, how very fascinating, i wonder if we’ll get any more context to this concept, I hope we get to see if any of these Pokémon has their own original forms at some point.
The only regions Lapras aren't in would be Kanto, Hoenn, and Paldea, and in Ultra Moon's Dex entry, there are now more of them

I think Lapras is from Galar natively because of its Loch Ness monster and the reason you can also find it in the wild in the most location. It being a Water type, probably means it migrated to the other regions and sought out the locations it felt the most comfortable in.
The Beldum line could be from outer space. In Pokemon black/white Metang is found easily in the creator from a meteor in the area you find Kyurem
I always assumed the alien detection device was picking up togapei not Misty.
That map actually looks really accurate
I think the great marsh is practically the same as the safari zone but not lore wise. Gible is found in the desert in ORAS after the box legendary is defeated/caught so gible being a rare hoenn mon works for me. Metagross is found in the great chasm in unova so i can see beldum being from there and its said the chasm is dangerous which is why theyre rare, no one goes there. Mr. Mime being from kalos, reflection cave is cool. Makes sense since kalos is close to galar where theres a regional mr mime.

carnivine is based off the venus fly trap which originates in the U.S. it is also found in route 18 in pokemon black/white 2
Reminds me of Elder Scrolls, how different races are from different places.
One thing that’s confused me. You use the legends arceus Pokémon to help back native sinoh Pokémon, or help figure out such as the gen 4 starters, however carnivine is in the wild in legends arceus so how does that work?
I believe Mudkip is native to the Great Marsh in Sinnoh while Grovile is native to Lush Jungle in Ahloa but Torchic is native to an undiscovered region on the same continent as Unova but more down south
