I love how he goes from holding his pokéball close, then showing it off with a hopeful gleam in his eye, to immediately showing his pokéball without any life in his eyes whatsoever. All of the joy is gone. It’s like he almost doesn’t care about his Pokémon anymore. All he cares about is having Ogerpon. And he needs to get stronger to do that.

Dude, I just listen to it over or to try to find that ticking out. I finally noticed it got with that revelation. This thing now reminds me of those old timers I used to have in elementary school. The music was really goofy but all of them they had the ticking in the background remind you this is still a timer his theme just now reminds me of that.

Oh boy a new friend! I sure hope he doesn’t have any underlying issues prior to us meeting him. I sure hope his family doesn’t force us to betray his trust. I sure hope his idol doesn’t spit in the face of his dream after he risks his reputation to help her. I sure hope all of this doesn’t compound into him finally snapping and using that anger to become the champion of a league with a competitive level team potentially in the lvl 90s. I sure hope he doesn’t try to murder me on sight when I go to visit him in less than a month. I both feel so bad for this boy and am absolutely terrified of him.

I really like the smidge of foreshadowing this song has. Its noticeably less bombastic than Carmine's battle theme and is honestly kind of goofy, which is appropriate given Kieran's more introverted personality and initially friendly demeanour, but the relatively subtle violins give it an almost sinister feel, which really becomes apparent the more he goes off the deep end and compliments his second battle theme, where the violins take centre stage and all the silliness is gone. He's not having Ogerpon though, no matter how much his battle theme slaps. The totally real divorce court of the Dreaded Den decided that I have custody, I'm taking the hecking kid.

I like how his theme is still serious sounding....but with the instruments making it sound innocent...that was really cool foreshadowing from their part Edit: I wonder if this theme's going to make a return, now that we've reconciled....his second and third theme will get overshadowed if that happens, which is sad Edit 2: they ended up making his second battle theme the official one which I really really like... I miss this theme tho

After listening to all Kieran's battle themes... this one is still my favorite one.

Man, going from this to Part 2's version is a complete 180.

This music… I didn’t focus on his soundtrack at first but later on it just hit me. It’s not like some of the other ones, it’s just, it’s something you can’t describe. Anyways DLC spoilers: I think Kieran didn’t just get mad at us because we betrayed his trust, but because he also saw us as something he lost. Example: the day we went to his house with him to meet his and Carmine’s grandparents we said we were his friend. He seemed to be a really shy boy with no friends, kind of like Penny when we met her. But unlike Penny, he had a sort of strange way of claiming things. He loves showing off his knowledge about the ogre and saying he knows it better than anyone, taking jabs at his older sister when he can. Then the next morning (after the festival and we saw the ogre) Kieran really wanted to hang out with us. But Carmine told him to basically Fa Klawf (see what I did there) and said we had business with her. We ourselves can assume she just means actual problems but to Kieran, he sees this as something being taken away from him. He obviously looked hurt when we spend more time with Carmine than with him. Then after he heard the whole true story of the ogre (bro why can’t we go inside the house instead of letting the whole world listen outside maybe Kieran wouldn’t have found out then) he was pissed. Then when we lie to him afterwards he says “Why… why did you lie to me?” And in the last signboard if you choose to say Sorry after he explains how the ogre must’ve felt he says “Sorry for what?” Yes I think it’s his feelings being hurt but I think he was upset something like a friend could be taken from him, and the ‘sorry for what’ part was him accusing us if we were just sorry for not telling him or for getting confronted by him. He never does get mad at the ogre, though I think some grudges are getting held. I truly think part of him was grateful we visited, but only time will tell until part 2 if he really did harbor those feelings. Anyways how the hell did he like all those candy apples my team hated every single one lol

As you can tell he’s my favorite because I’m going to talk more. Carmine seems like an overbearing sister at first, but she does really care for Kieran and shows off a bit of her weak side at the end. It is said that she does almost ‘everything’ (I’m assuming carrying their names with pride) and that he wishes to do something like that too. I’m guessing part of the fault could be in the way he was raised (not talking about the villain arc) so he felt closed off from the rest of the world because he felt he couldn’t do anything and was weak. Part of me thinks Carmine always talked harshly to Kieran because she never wanted him to get hurt in any way, or obsessed and crazy. But she did end up hurting Kieran’s feelings in the process without knowing and she realizes this after (I think?) the part where we battle Kieran near the shrine thing that I can’t remember. Yet again another part of me is just theorizing away. Kieran originally thought of course that the ogre was the villain and that the three others did good by sacrificing themselves. But after hearing the true story, it’s more like he made himself believe he was like the ogre. It’s weird how his grandpa and Carmine seem to think he knew all along but he only figured out afterwards, so a part of Kieran really did seem to think he was a villain himself. But the game makes us think he thinks he’s an outcast like the ogre after he hears the story. Guys it’s 8PM and I’m finishing up assignments what am I doing most of this is probably incorrect

Plus the way his battle stances change. At first they’re normal but then I’m pretty sure (correct me if I’m wrong sorry it’s late I need tea to sleep) he throws his Pokeballs with more confidence later on. And the obvious part where the light in his eyes fades for a few seconds or whenever he’s battling and he’s serious. Ngl his eyes kinda look like snake eyes. Maybe Pokémon brought in some symbolism with that? Anyways gonna go write fics for him because he’s my new favorite, move aside Arven

Loved this, great character deep dive! Kieran became my favorite Pokémon character instantly, I’m happy he actually has a character worth discussing. Really hope Part 2 makes it out this year, but we still don’t have a date so idk 😅

This theme has the vibe that he’s not really okay. In the outside, yes. But as we see further into the story, he does get very mentally unstable the more things he wants don’t go his way. And suddenly I find Carmine making a whole lot of sense.

The main difference with Kieran and Hop is this. Hop has always had our character as a friend even before our char and him started as trainers. Hop has a supportive Older Brother in Leon. What does Kieran have? A sister who doesn't exactly support him. Never having a friend mainly coz he's shy until we came along. We became the first person he could open up to. We were friends with him for a short time. But then we just had to lie to him along with his Sister about the Ogre. Yeah. This guy has no one to trust.

To all the people talking about part 2 and that he'll murder us, the short clip of the champion wears his yellow belt so he's most likely going to be blueberry academies champion

Even his first theme hints at some darkness in his heart.

Seeing Kieran loose his sanity defeat after defeat.. And his sister being nicer defeat after defeat... They're really opposed and complimentary in some ways.

Can’t wait for the ten Pokémon boss fight with a team of legendaries

Damn, listening to all four of his battle themes, each has a vibe to them. This one has that "friendly rival" feel to it, you know what I mean? The showdown has that uneasy feeling going on. His champion showdown feels like an intense feeling of... not hatred, I can't quite put my words on it, but like "I have to win no matter the cost." Meanwhile, the 6th and final fight has an uneasy sense of desperation but transitions to a more "I can do this now" sense of hope. i think in this one you can still feel that something's slightly off, or at least that it will be, since when it starts building up it loops back to the tame part. meanwhile the champion battle to me feels like a desperately violent cry for help, like he feels that he has to win but deep down he just doesn't want to be alone again. this is also sleep deprived me hello

i like how his battle team starts off very shy and childish and when face him the last time its alot more determined and intimidating

As soon as I saw him in the trailer I thought “he’s going to be antagonistic”. Then when I started the dlc, I thought, “I guess I was wrong” Then he did the whole thing with hiding in his room and basically plotting the player’s murder so yeah

This music is god tier and no one can convince me otherwise

This guy is going to kill us in the second part, i'm sure

Notice the starting sound of Kieran's initial theme and Carmine's theme are same Kieran's final theme does not have that initial sound. Shows how distant he is now from his sister. She dun goofed.

0:35 you can hear the Battle Legend theme from gen 7. Really reflects how the Blueberry League Champion is unknown to us, and we totally haven't met them yet . . Khu said it's Kieran. This stupid little brat (/affectionate) is the champion of the DLC part 2's league

This one seems so tame now compared to the Other 3 he has...

He naturally admired and sympathized with the ogre in the story because that is how he sees himself… as a victim. He craves power to enforce his will on others and justifies himself through a victimhood complex. He has no respect for the ogre’s actual feelings, as demonstrated by his insistence on batting for control after the ogre already chose to follow another. Now, consider the Loyal Three. Their backstories are similar. They were weak Pokémon that craved power. Then, the power corrupted them until their friendship value was zero. We are told that an interaction with the ogre means your soul will be forfeit when it really is the opposite. The Loyal Three gave up their souls (their core being) to gain power. Makes you wonder what our “friend” from another school will be like when we meet again.

I absolutely love your comparison to Kieran and the Loyal Three! The parallels between them are especially delicious to me when I think about how the Loyal Three originally stole orgepon's masks out jealousy and greed, and then later on Kieran steals the Teal Mask out of hate and resentment from feeling like an outcast from the player and Carmine. I am definitely looking forward to seeing how this will play out in Indigo Disk, that's for sure (if not a little scared XD). Truly a terrifying tale of a boy who used to admire us and our strength now wants to destroy us because of it. The brightest lights do indeed cast the darkest shadows.

Mad respects to this kid and his Belly Drum Poliwhirl. Forced me to use items when I never intended to. I'm gonna take him seriously in the second. DLC

It's my favourite character and his theme is the best of the dlc

Just to point out Kieran is revealed to be a teenager so he's at least 13 and since Florian/Juliana look about the same theyre probably young teenagers too

Fun fact: this theme is Gen 7 Red&Blue's Battle Theme mixed with Oleana's theme.

This has been the best theme in the Teal Mask DLC

The true Kieran, right there. I know he still wants to eventually beat us, but he's OK with the outcome, regardless. I'm happy he's feeling a lot better.

Coming from hearing Carmines battle theme, this sounds like miniature version of her theme, that's so cute

In the beginning of the DLC I actually fully thought that Kieran would be our characters best buddy. I don't want him evil in the 2nd part of the DLC.

One of the best battle themes from the DLC. I absolutely love it.

@@Nassacrismo I disagree. Wally ain't bad but he's not as important or special as people made him out to be. Yeah, he was a sick boy but his illness was never really elaborated or explored as his journey was virtually ignored with him starting in Petalburg, being seen next at Mauville which leads to him losing a battle, staying back at home for a while only for him to show up at the very end with a better team. While the remake did give us an awesome battle theme, Mega Gallade and even gave us updates through the Hoenn News Network and Gym Statues, it's just not enough in my book compared to other rivals even the IMO sorta victimized shy boi Kieran.

It scares me how fast this kid improved

This DLC made me realice that Paldea's trainers just have smaller eyes overall. This guys look a lot more like some older desings like the ones from sinnoh or hoenn.

to many people sleep on this theme, its so awesome! the bass-guitar slaps so hard ✰_✰

I like his battle theme because I have it freaking stuck in my head most of the day at work🤣you may not win battling me Kieran but you win in Making me hear your theme FOREVER

I'm gonna be dead serious, this is one of the best themes in all of Scarlet and Violet, it somehow gives me that one vibe you cannot explain to the fullest. Overall, good job to Gamefreak, the osts in part 1 are generally underrated in my opinion, I hope part 2 is gonna have creative themes too

I love this battle theme it has so many motifs I’ve wanted in a battle theme for the longest time I love xylophones and how cheery and groovy it is

This theme goes harder than his other 2 combined! It’s so fun but intense at the same time? It’s beaming with excitement and got a lot of kitakami flavor to it.

I’ve always enjoyed Pokemon music but this generation is truly something else.

i can’t wait to see what they do with him in part 2. I hope he fully embraces his jealousy and anger and goes off the deep end, like full blown villain mode. I highly doubt they will do that thiugh
