@@crcoghill Okay so there are a few things, you see in Jaiden's video that is just part of the crits those are key ones, where it shows the loss of her mons, as well as the KOs on potential ones she could have added to her party. (Yes all things we have all dealt with especially if we do nuzlockes) but because it was her birthday and it was the end of the run, as well as it was yet again more critical hits during key moments, she was told to go for the E4 again and finish it as champion since it was her B-day.

She's definitely responsible for the whole Nuzlocke boom from the last couple of years, but to be precise it is something that has been done since the concept of nuzlocke was created. The first nuzlocke in existence was a webcomic based on someone's ruby nuzlocke run, quite similar to the way Jaiden does it on her animations. There were quite a lot of them back in the day, some did comics and some did animations, way before Pokétubers and streamers were a thing. Of course, it's undeniable that it was Jaiden who brought the Nuzlocke community to the general public, which is pretty cool.

Regarding the ending: As chat explained, she lost the first run to the E4, but it's a bit more than just that. I think if she had just lost fairly, she probably would have animated a dramatic battle resulting in a close loss. But the first run opened with pretty much back-to-back crit one-shots on key members that even the best of players couldn't have anticipated or mitigated, eventually leaving her with only Torterra, Magnezone, and Scizor going into Flint, all 3 of whom were weak to fire. The RNG of those first two fights was like getting hit by lightning, getting taken to the ER, then getting hit by a second bolt of lightning as you're leaving the hospital.

Nah, it was a completely unexpected coverage move from Rhyperior instead of a one hit KO move.

Koe makes fun of people for mentioning EVs, but reminder that EVs have saved Jaiden twice in these nuzlockes. First her farming Marils with ZipZapZop caused ZipZapZop to survive at 2 HP because of the HP EVs, and then Flakes farming Ponyta allowed him to out speed a Garchomp of a higher level. Like, it's one thing to over optimise in a normal single player run, but people discount EVs can save you in a nuzlocke.

Considering how many times she had pokemon on single digit HP just in this video I'd say it saved her alot, Dwayne would've definitely died if he had any HP or Defense EVs, although that one specifically wouldn't change much since she planned to sack it anyway

The thing is RNG screwed her over so hard and so fast not even a pro player could've saved that run, and it was her birthday as well

Dragonbretheren already explained the majority of why Chat allowed Jaiden to reattempt the Elite 4 (A condition some Nuzlockers call Crit Clause, if I recall correctly - Aka when the RNG is past the point of unfair so you attempt again just to see if what you had set up was POSSIBLE) But if I recall correctly, it was also her Birthday during that stream, so the Chat considered the "Extra Life" as a BDay Present

15:14 if i remember correctly during the live stream jaiden gave chat a choice to choose which pokemon we wanted but i dont think anyone understood that she meant to sack that pokemon, so blame chat for that death...

As someone who has been a writer of fantasy stories for the majority of my life at this point, Jaiden's ability to write that unexpected turn into her storyline is the kind of thing to which authors should aspire. Even when the stories are based entirely in our heads with our own characters, things that you never expected can happen, and you need to be able to adapt and roll with it to keep the story going and make sure it remains engaging. Add to that the restriction of not being the one who originally created the storyline, and it's great. :) I love the way she did this.

Honestly yeah, Luxray is honestly pretty badass....it's just that if it wasn't so freaking slow compared to almost every other Electric type, it'd probably be higher up on my favorites list....still love it though.

When Koe splits himself in 2 and he loses both Nuzlockes. :(

Yes and no. A solid type match-up can make up the 8-level difference, but you have to know what you're doing. In this case, Onix's base Physical Defense is astronomical, but its base HP and base Special Defense are low. Going at it with a Razor Leaf won't do much, despite the type match-up, but Absorb, backed by a decent base Special Attack, could very easily one-shot it, despite the lower base power Absorb has to Razor Leaf.

@@hendeyjagger7489 Four times effective. Six times, if a Grass-type Pokemon is using it. But Razor Leaf is a physical attack, which does not do as well against Onix's high Physical Defense. Throw in the 8-level difference, and it becomes very possible for Onix to take the hit and survive. And I'm not overstating Onix's Physical Defense, either. Early game, most Pokemon you encounter don't have a base stat that's over 70 or so. Onix's Physical Defense base stat is 160. For comparison, Turtwig's best base stat is Physical Attack, sitting at 68, which is pretty good for an unevolved Pokemon. But against Onix, the only reason why you could be doing anything in the way of decent damage is because Onix's base HP stat is 35, which is very low. You are otherwise quite literally hitting your head against a rock wall.

@@hendeyjagger7489 Yes, and I already acknowledged that. So what about it? Look, it is possible I misread the original post, so let's cover my bases here. If it was referring to the Onix being 8 levels weaker than the Purugly, then it should be noted that Purugly's base Physical Attack is 82, which is not great for a fully evolved Pokemon, AND Purugly only has Physical Attacks it can learn naturally, and none of them are supereffective against Onix, anyway, so defensively, it is a great match-up. If we were talking about an Onix battling a Grass type Pokemon that is 8 levels weaker than it or a Pokemon 8 levels weaker than Onix and that Pokemon has a Grass type move, which is what I thought that original post was talking about, than everything else I said still applies.

I feel like the crit rate in platinum is the reason why they made Torterra's hidden ability "shell armor"

Of the 3 of her nuzlock vids, this is my favorite one. The ending sequence…gave me chills lol.

I love when Koe noticed the reference in the title of the game like "....galatactic....jupiter?...neptune? they are named after planets :o " and the chats spamming "BRUH!" sound xD. I really love that interaction. I love you Koe, i don't pass often at the stream but when i arrive always make me laugh.

Theoretically, her nuzlocke videos really go further to embrace the attachment rule of Nuzlockes. Going that extra bit further to make sure that she AND the viewers of the livestream and the videos are really attached to them.

The OG platinum Cynthia was the toughest Pokemon champion fight I've ever faced. Her Pokemon were incredibly high level and had good IVs and EVs. I remember losing to her again and again on my first play through and had to go back and grind levels each time. But her battle music was good it made the fight even better of an experience and it felt extremely rewarding to finally beat her after countless attempts.

In vanilla games, every trainers Pokemon you face had no EV and their IVs are random as the same as the wild ones. But except for the gym leaders, E4 and champion where their Pokemon are on perfect IVs but still no EV invested. So that's the reason why every hackroms are harder because of the properly EVs invested and competitive level moves. Not even counting the changes in AI mechanics though.

I actually cried when I realized the context of the ending when I first watched Jaiden's playthrough.

Fun fact the glitch scenes are actually a referance to her first try at the elite 4 where she failed

That crap always ticked me off and I thought there was nothing I could do about it. Thank you!! Edit: Now if only there was a way to mass hide all videos on subscription feed. I will literally NOT subscribe to someone for the simple fact that if I do my Subscription feed will suddenly have months and months and months of their videos that I have to manually hide. When I subscribe, I know how to get their old videos, I don't want to see the old videos when I subscribe...

Shinx' evolution is nice but 'early on' - keep in mind the first gym is the Rock gym where most of them are part-ground, so electric types don't play a big role until a bit later.

By the time you do really want an Electric type, which is the Water gym, you can just use Raichu instead of Luxray.

I think Pokemon Platinum was designed around RNG (Random Number Generator) and the crit system was redesigned to be even more unforgiving than in past Pokemon titles. At least, that's what it seemed like when I was playing.

Jaiden's fans have managed to change google search because it did her a wrong. Never underestimate the power Jaiden holds. Edit: she lost in the elite 4, but it was her birthday, she asked if she could re-do the elite 4 because it just trolled her with massive crits. we kinda ganged up on her and had her re-do the 4 because we ALL agreed it was BS! Love how she animated the loss in her story.

Yeah Platinum is pretty hard mostly because the enemy pokemon are *really* prone to critting you out of goddamned nowhere.

Sure Gyarados is a Physical attacker mainly but if you train it right, it can be a Special Attacker. It'd probably surprise people if you use it that way than what they're expecting

Finally someone who noticed Quagsire in the one shot in the Gym was not affected but the Electric attack. SOOOO many people who reacted to Jaiden's video keep saying" Uh Quagsire is immune to electric". Yeah she knows that. That's why Quagsire is unfazed in that one shot. yeah: I had to start digging from answers and the best thing i have on how many chances there were for Crits in Gen 4 was 6.25% chance for a critical hit! and if that move has a bigger chance at critting: 12.5%. This game is rigged! no way so many attacks hit with these few percentages!

19:50 Experience nuzlockers usually try to hold off on training Pokemon until they need a certain amount of 'effort values' or ev to defeat a certain trainer with a certain Pokemon. I'm sure someone else can give you more info if needed I've never done a nuzlocke.

So fun fact Wooper is called Wooper because it's an axolotl and the Japanese word for axolotl is *wooper-looper.*

Oooooh, Black/White 2. That's a tough one to Nuzlocke. One Black 2 Nuzlocke I did still has my... second most devastating loss in all the runs I've done. I understand losing that game. Feel free to try again, though, it's definitely fun to do. I'd recommend Ruby/Sapphire or the remakes if you're doing a first one, those are more manageable.

To be fair to Jaiden, her first elite 4 run (even though she lost) was literally straight up BS. A normal lose would have been fine and probably animated, but it was like the Poke-gods decided to go "No," and proceeded to obliterate her team in a way that just wasn't fair.

Yeah, that was a very unlucky crit on Big Boy. Iron Defense means double defense, Heatproof means Fire isn't super effective... but the double defense was bypassed by the crit.

That last bit wasn't part of the game she lost the nuzlock and for the sake of the video finished the game, that's why their was two of her.

If you like Jaiden's I'd check out Moxie2D. He does an artlock - a nuzlocke where he draws what he catches and how they die. Jaiden raided him at one point and it was great.

Rules are varied, some don't use legendaries and some take it a step further to defeat them.

Tbh I have watched her video than many others who reacted to it.
