Love how the music here is actually dynamic, whilst you on your opponent are sending out your pokemon, 0:00-0:17 plays. Once the "BATTLE" prompt comes up, it shifts to the more energetic part of the music. Additionally, when you're in menus (eg switching pokemon or selecting an item), the music quietens and the melody cuts out. Pokemon rarely does dynamic music so this is a very welcome change.

We can agree to disagree, most of them have one to three pokémon, the exceptions being Kamado, Beni and Volo I believe, Rei/Akari at the endgame too. Most trainers will leave you with one or two pokémon down and that'll be it.

@@silque_brigandess I think they just meant the fact that because barely anyone had pokemon, battles were few in between. The only time people really fought with pokemon was when it was a serious situation, like the Kalos War. So when you actually got into a pokemon battle, it was most likely due to someone trying to stop you or harm you. Makes sense for the much more intense opening of the battle theme.

6 hours into this game and just… wow, I really wasn’t expecting this with what Gamefreak has served us the past couple years, this game might be one of my favourite Pokémon games, as someone who started with gen 4 and has played every game from Gold/Silver onward, this is nothing like I expected, idk how it got an E rating though with how dark the theme is, whenever you go out into the wilderness everyone tells you to value your life and not die😆 I honestly love it, seeing Pokémon’s true nature and aggression being displayed after so many years, I hope everyone else has turned their negative views for this game and Gamefreak around because my god… I absolutely love it

I kinda like how while it still has hints of old gen 4’s trainer theme, it’s a bit more loose and wild in composition, like the concept of it still loose and not entirely put together, but it’s still there, like how Hisui is being explored and the idea of Jubilife village spreading across hisui and transform it into sinnoh is being put together, it’s pretty neat

Working with what you said about the theme being looser, it also matches the loose and wild nature of the battles in game. Pokemon battles of any kind were rare because few actually had pokemon at the time. You can walk around freely during the battle, and there's no strictly set turns. It's whoevers quickest that gets to attack, possibly even several times in many situations. Pokemon moves are also more innovative, being given styles to choose from. All this is to say that back before there was any general agreement on conduct or rules in battles, it truly was just a test of might.

soulless music, how can you hear anything in this ost? it's a sad attempt at a zelda BOTW guardian theme in the first minute, then becomes a random mess with no direction whatsoever, appart from some weak allusions to the original gen 4 theme. Add to that the lazy electronic instruments with 0 texture that sound like they were mixed on garage band on an ipad (which are part of every ost in Bugged Diamond and Unfinished Pearl).

It's kinda ironic that Volo is the first and (originally before Daybreak) the last Trainer you fight in the game, one's a test of strength and the other decides the fate of the world.

I love the 13/8 time signature in the beginning to match the feeling of the messy, untrained way most people battle in this game, evening out to 6/8 and then 4/4 as you get into your stride.

In case you're wondering what the time signatures is in this song, here's what I hear: The intro is definitely traditional 4/4. Once the main battle theme kicks in, it sounds like it alternates between 6/8 and 7/8 across every 2 measures. Once the heroic sounding new melodic idea comes in at 0:57, it returns to 4/4 time and remains there all throughout the gen 4 throwback until the transition back into the main battle theme. What an amazing battle theme !! already one of my favorites

@@Knash Laventon seems to be from Galar; the time period is Meiji era Japan and Laventon's real life inspiration is likely Thomas Blakiston. Plus in Raichu's dex entry he talks about "the Copperajah from my homeland," which we know were brought to Galar from a different region. Now as for the region implied in that dex entry, that def seems like an allusion to India so maybe we'll see an India inspired region next or something

That's the issue with open world games, especially when the world is only nature territory: It was pretty much guaranteed that the world will feel empty. Pokémon can only fill the void so much. That said I anticipated far worse but hunting and catching all the Pokémon this time actually feels engaging enough to make you explore the entire map.

Only complaint is a lot of crashes I've had with loading into areas and some spawn rates being atrocious, which is attributed to the time space distortion bugs. Apart from that it's an S tier game

Literally every single song slaps in this game, I can't name a single song that doesn't blow me out of my chair The more I play this game the more I fall in love with it, like dude I can't remember the last time I got so excited over a pokemon game

I like to explore a lot, so I ended up being way overlevelled for every trainer battle. Combined with how quickly I tend to battle, I didn't even KNOW about the throwback at 1:38. Definitely an amazing trainer theme. One of my new favourites.

I had the opposite experience. I explored a decent amount, the game felt pretty hard for me. I didn't black out from any pokemon battle in the game but most of the boss battles took down at least one of my pokemon, usually more than that. Alpha pokemon were also a fun challenge. TlDr the level curve felt pretty good. Unless you're a completionist you're probably going to have a fun time playing the game.

HgSs: Shit level scaling, Mediocre mons, A Team rocket with no leader (Giovanni who?), No story, Basic music, unmemorable/No Professor (it’s just Oak coming back), RELYING to much on Kanto (without it what does johto/gen 2 bring?), but oh yes this the “tHe bEsT gEnErAtIoN” people speak of? Get real even Kalos was more enjoyable (megas alone solo). The only good thing I’ll love about Johto is the rival Silver he was so unique and hardcore they had to remake him in The DP Anime with a new name who goes by Paul 😂.

⁠@@a.x.x8184 I’m actually replaying SS now for the first time in years and I’m inclined to agree with you. I just beat the 8th gym yesterday. Original Gen 2’s music was better for the most part, and level scaling is a little whack, especially if you have a full party too early. I think what I liked about it back then was the amount of content, and the large national dex. But, that only makes me see Legends Arceus as an even better game. I’m hoping the next Legends game has more trainer battles and more scenic setpieces.

I was expecting more of an old Japanese style similar to Ho-Oh’s theme from HGSS. I love all the Gen 4 music references in this track though, especially at 01:17.

That’s bc Gen 4 ost from trainer, wild battle, Legendary themes ect all are remixes of Johto themes. Dead ass hear Trainer and wild battle side by side. Gen 4 is Gen 2s big brother.

@Merciless Freak Fair enough. I can definitely see how it's super overwhelming and how the instruments do clash with each other a bit too much. What also helps your point is this song doesn't really have a break like most battle themes.

Damn this slaps, one of my favorite trainer battle themes so far. It's very chaotic and the beats are sorta all over the place but I love it for some reason lol. Favorite part has to be 0:57, reminds me a lot of gen 5.

I believe the chaos suits the game well. This is the very start of pokemon battling. There's no set rules, no set code of conduct, just two trainers brawling.

I played this game so much this music is graved into my memory

when you realize this theme was meant to all of us as trainers, didnt know we had such a banger of a battle theme

This has to be the best trainer battle theme ever! I can always just relax to this over, and over again. It makes feeling like having a Pokémon battle so epic! Notice how Volo is the only one you battle once at the beginning and then you never battle him again until a lot later.

Imagine if every main line game will look like legends Arceus

Objectively the best Pokémon game I’ve played yet probably my 4th favourite in the series. Nostalgia blinds me hard, man.

This feels like an evolution of the trainer theme rather than an attempt to make it match with the point in time we were thrown in 👀

Idc this game slapped and I already forgotten it lol was such a blast and a sick soundtrack took everything we grew up on and made it feel right.

Sounds very proggy. Reminds me of Emerson lake and Palmer. Also the guitar whammy part before the odd time section was my favorite moment when I first heard it.

that sound effect of “BATTLE!” Before the beat drop will never get old

easily one of the few trainer battle themes id actually stick around to listen to every time

Starly sure has been a help. I never have a Sinnoh team without at LEAST one Starly.

It makes sense why there are such few trainer battles in the games, and even then they use very few Pokemon since people were after all scared of Pokemon back then. I just wish from a gameplay standpoint there were more trainer battles.

I love how this song goes with how your trainer does his actions to make the Pokémon attack.

35 hours in and I never get tired of listening to this, it’s just so good

God if this game would had come out sooner with more development time of course. I would had love to see an Legend Arceus trainer for Smash.

It sounds as if like Cyrus' theme and the gen 4 trainer theme have just combined together. It sounds so good!

I don't know why people are complaining about the handful number of Pokemon Trainer-oh i mean-Wielder battles. I think that it had a fair share of battles with wielders and they were less because it fits the whole theme of the game where you are special because there are barely few people in Hisui who can wield more than two Pokemon. It's like in Hisui its not the trainers you gotta worry about; its the wild Pokemon themselves. I absolutely love every aspect of the game and it is my favorite Pokemon game.

Yup, I feel like that also fits the more intense battle theme. Because so few people had pokemon, when you had a pokemon battle, it was going to be tough.

50 hours in, beat the final boss, and this theme never gets old.

I like how the music changes after the intro, but MAN i was sitting on that intro for a solid 15 seconds waiting for that shit to go crazy

Just realized that the start is a remix of the midpoint of the original G4 trainer battle music; Really well incorporated, every single part!

the Trainer Battle theme really sounds like a "good" version of Cyrus's battle theme. Like, it's not even just the instruments, a lot of parts sound very similar to it... which kinda makes sense. Team Galaxy is what Team Galactic was supposed to be, but for some reason drove away from that. I wonder if we'll ever get the full backstory on Cynthia and Cyrus.
