Imo bug monotype runs are consistently the most fun. A decent selection from the early game, and you get to use pokemon you likely didn't use in the late game. Bugs also tend to have (relatively) good utility options, so you often have to come up with big brain strategies instead of clicking earthquake!

i gotta agree, i just came off of a sword monotype run with bug types and it was incredible. i never imagined myself actually struggling in areas of that game i previously thought were easy xD it really taught me me to think more critically about the pokemon i keep on my team and what kind of strategies i should use in battles beyond just spamming the hardest hitting moves! only took me about 25 years to learn it lmao!

HG's right in that the odds are tricky and wouldn't be exact, but using the numbers he shows, that set of events has about a... ...0.124% chance of happening. Utterly wild. (To say nothing of the rest of the luck at hand, or lack thereof)

@@Poke-Playsjust by multiplying together every number he showed on the screen as percentages. So that would be: (0.2^2) * 0.25 * (0.75^3) * 0.5625 * 0.525 = 0.001245… This doesn’t take into account the turn that Bread broke through or the turns where paralysis and flinch were both options that produce the same outcome (that being Bread not being able to move). So realistically the odds are probably closer to about 0.5% but I can’t be bothered to figure out how to calculate that exactly so less than 1% is good enough

Crustle has solid bulk and can Shell Smash sweep without too much trouble. Even Leavanny can pop off in the right circumstances. It's still not great but it's considerably better than any of the early-game Bugs of prior generations.

@@cartooncritic7045 Sure but thats a low bar set anyway. Gen 5 having something better in bug types doesn't mean much when only two bug types prior to gen 5 were good, Heracross and Scizor. And all the bugs you mentioned do not do much in competitive or playthrough teams. I like galvantula but unfortunately its terrible despite having decent stats at first glance Edit: Also forretress. Forretress was very good between gens 2-5. It wasn't practical to use in playthroughs but it was a competitive star

@@dntremad8290 If we’re going to be talking shit about Gen 5 Bug types for playthrough teams Galvantula is so much better than Scolipede and it’s not close. You’re also just never getting Volcarona in a playthrough of BW1 because Larvesta evolves so late; at least BW2 lets you catch a free one with no extra caveats. Even then, Galvantula gives you a basically free Skyla and Marlon and can be good in the Plasma and League battles.

I don’t know if FlygonHG knows this, but by the time you defeat Falkner you can potentially get Sitrus Berries and even some of the powerful items like Choice Scarf from Mom thanks to getting access to Rock Smash early. You use Rock Smash the rock in Violet City which gives access to the Shards which you can trade with the Juggler, and you can then sell items like the Revives and Star Pieces which can allow you to get the items from Mom sooner.

You should have used detect with Yanmega to get the speed boost and then used ancient power. You either could have lived and killed dragonite or made it a guarantee kill with heracross.

R.e the weasel bit. So I live in the UK, I learnt a song as a kid "half a pound of tuppenney rice, half a pound of treacle, put it together and what have you got? Pop goes the weasel." Sounds bad for the weasel, I guess. Great vid as always!

The weasel refers to your Sunday best. Pop goes the weasel is pawning off your Sunday best to make ends meet during the week, before buying it back for church on Sunday. So Clair is probably the weasel in this scenario

I applaud anyone willing to nuzlocke vanilla HGSS. Mostly because 1. The level curve for wild Pokemon is absolute dogwater. 2. For some stupid reason, GF thought it'd be a great idea to restrict Gen 4 evolutions.
