Ah, but you said it. You tie your ribbons. Maddy has elastic. That's a big difference. Old school... if you have calamine lotion at home (pinkish coloured stuff we used to put on bug bites a hundred years ago, when I was young) dip the end ⅓ of your ribbons in the lotion, get them nice and wet, hang to dry with the ribbons free to move (helps with the drying). When they've dried, use a DRY cloth to wipe off powdery excess. The ribbons should still look and feel a bit powdery though. It will help them grip when tied and tucked - the satin won't be quite so slippery and let them undo. I've never tried this next bit myself, I airways used calamine to pancake my pointes. But I've heard that you can make a paste out of talcum powder and water and do the same process.
