Poetry "I Learned to Live Simple and Wisely" [Anna Akhmatova]

Anna Akhmatova, whose real name was Anna Andreyevna Gorenko, was born in Bolshoy Fontan, near Odessa, in the Russian Empire (now part of Ukraine), on June 23, 1889. She was a prominent Russian poet of the 20th century, known for her lyrical, emotional, and deeply personal poetry.
Anna Akhmatova emerged as one of the key figures in Russian literature during the pre-revolutionary era, further flourishing during the Soviet period. Her work ranged from early Symbolist poems to reflections on the modern Russian experience and the difficulties faced under the communist regime.
She was one of the few poets who remained active and respected during the years of Stalinist repression, despite the difficulties imposed by the regime. Her poetry often dealt with themes such as love, loss, memory, and the human condition in a turbulent world. Anna Akhmatova is frequently associated with the Russian Symbolist literary movement and is considered one of the great voices of 20th-century Russian poetry. Her work continues to be studied and appreciated both in Russia and internationally.
#Poem "I Learned to Live Simple and Wisely" [Anna Akhmatova]
"I learned to live simple and wisely
to look at the sky, to pray to God,
and to wander long before the night,
To avoid unnecessary anguish.
When in the ditch you tremble with cold
and the yellow-red rowan bends its curls,
I compose verses full of joy
in the falling, fleeting, and beautiful life.
I will return. A fluffy cat licks me
the palm, making the most loving caress,
and a lively fire ignites on the lake
In the sawmill tower.
Rarely a bird's cry heals,
Flying to the roof, tearing the silence.
And if you knock on my door,
It seems that I won't even listen."
