[PoE 3.23] Cats on Crit revisited - CoC Soulrend of the Spiral doing Ultimatum + Destructive Play

So my previous cats on crit build was visually impressive but not that much fun to play. This league, the new Soulrend of the Spiral gem introduced a new broken cat skill - the base damage of the skill is completely ridiculous (as is the theme with many of these transfigured gems it seems) AND the projectiles can shotgun. This skill is almost entirely balanced around it's crazy 80 base mana cost, but luckily with Mageblood and some mana nodes on the tree this can be completely ignored. The obvious play here is to go with Nimis for double the cats.

The upside of this build is that if we can brawl with a stationary target, we have over 300M dps when all the cats are returning, and we are nearly immortal due to high max hit and ES gain on hit. The downside is that to maximize visual clutter I have opted to not have any projectile speed, so it takes quite a few seconds for the dps to ramp, during that time the real dps is somewhere between 5-50M. We also have to stand right in the middle of enemies so they get hit by all of the random direction outgoing cats, and enemies have to not move to be hit by all the returning cats. This means we need to be TANKY, so I made some defensive upgrades to my CI CoC Ice Nova build. Naturally, the best way to see a screen full of cats in action is in Ultimatum! The new Ultimatum mechanic is pretty disappointing, the loot is mediocre for how difficult the mechanic is and unless you find the Trialmaster the 2 minutes it takes to do 10 rounds of Ultimatum is better spent doing literally anything else. However Trialmaster is incredibly profitable (although most of it is behind boss carries if you can be bothered), and most importantly it is very good for watching a show on the side while 240 cats per second fly across the screen. Destructive Play is crazy good as usual, nothing to see here. I amassed hundreds of guardian maps and invitations with my boss rushing strategy earlier so this is a good time to run them. We skip wildwood once again because the loot from Ultimatums and DP aren't affected by wisps. Notes: - Power Charge on Critical support is actually really important for bossing because the ramp time for power charges from Assassin's mark takes too long, and we deal significantly less damage when not at maximum power charges. - Projectile speed is highly recommended, it greatly speeds up when the cats return and when you actually deal damage. A medium cluster with Streamlined and Eye to Eye or Repeater if you need attack speed helps a lot. Personally I am prioritizing visual clutter so no projectile speed for me. - Swap out Profane Bloom for Withering Presence when doing Ubers. - Going crit with Occultist is probably only the 3rd best way to play Soulrend of the Spiral, behind Energy Blade Inquisitor and Poison Pathfinder. The former deals lightning damage so Inspiration support completely trivialises the mana cost of the skill while the latter can use EB to handle the mana costs. I know Mathil played Assassin with this skill recently scaling poison but I think he would also acknowledge that Pathfinder is just better here. - This build is pretty good for ubers, feared, sims, juiced maps and deep delve. Will be showcasing some of these in the future. - The budget for this build is Yes (about 1.5 mirrors). It's a weird league when all the rare gear is more expensive than Mageblood, even though they're pretty straightforward to craft.

Wow, amazing sir, ty so much for details, you answered a lot of my questions I have one more, what is best CoC now in 3.23 if i have 500, 1000 and 2k divines? Best i mean it can clear all content with right button, i am asking because i used to play old immortal forbidden rite and ice spear coc too squishy for me, but i didn't try other variations

@@Nikita18Nikita18 in terms of raw damage, i think nothing beats frostblink of wintry blast because the cooldown recovery from badge of the brotherhood lets you get to the 15.15aps breakpoint and the base damage of that skill is absurd. many other coc variants are excellent and can scale to the moon with more investment. off the top of my head - energy blade inquisitor benefits a lot from more investment into intelligence and strength, pathfinder coc variants with 100% phys to ele, transcendance and progenesis can lead to really tanky shenanigans. occultist with +1 power charge rings and mirror tier helmet/grasping mail is also incredible. with any of these builds, you can put any skill and it would work.

@@Lyazee if you want flavour of the month, go almost any skill using malachais shield, badge of the brotherhood, ralakesh boots and militant faith with inner conviction. this combination is super powerful and more or less guarantees 100M dps although you will need much more defensive investment (e.g. bloodnotch/progenesis). this is probably the strongest way to play coc right now. ice nova of frostbolts / vortex of projection / ice spear of splitting / soulrend of the spiral / frostblink of wintry blast are all good here.
