Pod Express Line 6 Bugs, Problems, cons

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Some interesting things I learned about the new Pod Express by Line 6. Software update in the future could possibly fix these issues or maybe they intended this as an extra feature?
The Line 6 POD Express Guitar is an ultra-portable guitar amp and effects processor - in fact, it's the company's most portable POD yet. The POD Express boasts seven amp models, seven cab simulations, and 17 effects based on cutting-edge HX-derived technology, along with a tuner, a noise gate, and even a looper. This unit's simple control set makes dialing in tones a straightforward affair; plus, since it can be powered by either batteries or an optional power supply, you can take it virtually anywhere. The POD Express flaunts tap tempo, stereo main outputs, and a stereo headphone output, and you get a built-in USB-C audio interface for effortless recording, monitoring, and re-amping. Finally, you can connect an optional expression pedal for real-time volume control or up to two external footswitches for preset selection and turning effects on and off. Over the years, the various iterations of Line 6's POD have broken new ground in terms of functionality, portability, and sound quality. Offering more of the same in an even more compact form factor, the POD Express Guitar makes for a stellar musical companion.

A bounty of HX-quality sounds
Lurking inside the POD Express Guitar's unassuming and decidedly un-kidney bean-like, housing, you'll find a cornucopia of sounds, all derived from Line 6's award-winning HX family of processors. It all starts with seven amplifier and cabinet models: Chime, Dynamic, Crunch, Heavy, Lead, Clean, and Special. Light a fire under your tone with Boost, Overdrive, Distort, and Fuzz distortion effects. Add gloss to every note you play with Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, and Tremolo modulation effects. Infuse your playing spellbinding Analog, Digital, Tape, or Pong delay effects. Give your sound dimension with Spring, Hall, Plate, and Space reverb effects. The POD Express also includes tap tempo, a noise gate, and a full-featured looper.
Player-friendly features to spare
Sweetwater guitarists love how the Line 6 POD Express Guitar culls so many features. For starters, you can power it with either three AA batteries or an optional 9-volt power supply, allowing you to take it anywhere with or without your pedalboard. Stereo main outputs and a stereo headphone output enable you to perform, record, or practice with pristine stereo sound. The POD Express's built-in USB-C audio interface makes recording, monitoring, and re-amping child's play. You also get the ability to connect an optional expression pedal for real-time volume control or up to two external footswitches for preset selection and turning effects on and off.
Killer tone doesn't get any easier than this
Operating the POD Express Guitar is as easy as can be. Its 5-knob interface includes Distortion, Mod, Amp, Delay, and Reverb knobs that double as Gain, Mid, Channel Volume, Bass, and Treble knobs when you press the Alt button. You also get On and Tap footswitches. Finally, deploying the unit's built-in tuner and saving patches is just as intuitive. The POD Express is truly the most straightforward POD Line 6 has ever designed - just plug in and play!

The gain and delay will stay the same when you enter preset mode. when you switch to another preset and back it should change back to its save state. There is also a global setting to change tap tempo globally or per preset. Per preset is by default.

I will check that out. It's a strange default.

You are correct that is what I do before my gig, go to the presets toggle up or down and then you will be all set!

The "change on release" is a good behavior to know of. I was looking for a way to have smoother preset changes.

The unit is working as designed and aligns with other Line 6 Pod and HX products. Just switching from edit to preset mode doesn’t reload the current preset. As such, any changes you make while in edit mode will be preserved as you enter preset mode. If you change presets without saving, those edits will be lost.

Interesting to know. Most other units of this type do not behave that way. The button release issue?

The button engaging when released could maybe be good for looping but this pedal isn’t really a looper so 🤷🏽‍♂️

If you hold TAP, doesn't that go into TUNER mode, or whatever you assigned it to?

I'm not sure what you mean here. Changing the switches to act like preset up/down doesn't jump to a completely different preset because you haven't gone anywhere, you've only changed what the footswitches do. Every multieffect works the same way, the preset only changes when you change presets, not when you change footswitch modes.

One of my points is that edit mode affects preset mode without saving. Other units don't do that.

  • @AudacityWorks

There's no edit mode or preset mode. You're always in a preset. Nearly all pedals (Strymon, Meris, etc.) require you save changes to a preset before switching to a different preset. A few have autosave but they're relatively rare and autosave is almost always turned off so you don't accidentally overwrite your work.

I think that's incorrect. When the middle knobs is red it edit mode. Click both buttons and the light turns white to signify preset mode

I dont think this supposed to happen. I use external F3/F4, but when I assign them to anything, It keeps on (Delay, distortion..) , even if i go through all my presents they are still there on, this is weird. I think line 6 should fix this.

The "work when you let them go" is a midi switching thing. I've noticed this on other midi enabled pedals like the Wampler Pantheon Deluxe. I found it annoying on that pedal and ended up sticking with the original Pantheon.

Boss MS-3 had the same "switch on release" behavior. It could be pretty useful. Like you're about to play a solo... so step on the pedal and hold it; then as you release it you are free to play the solo and go up to the front of the stage....

That feature is there to save the batteries, the unit has no need to be on when running on batteries if you don’t have a cable plugged in

Good night. I just bought a unit and it works exactly as TrainedZombie says (Good job!). This is bad design. The presets do not remain immovable. If you modify the settings in amplifier/pedal mode, the presets are modified and you start over. I hope they fix it in a new update

for example. I save one preset without boost and the next one with boost. Well, when I enter preset mode, both are heard as I left them in non-preset mode. It's a design error

I also don't like I have to exit preset mode to tune. I did that in my show yesterday and accidentally altered my lead preset.
