I make sprinkler repairs occasionally, and I use my heat gun to softer the tubing so it easily slips over the coupler. Very easy.

Thank you. Like you, I love these hoses as they are easy to store and use. However, they are somewhat fragile. I discarded one last year thinking it could not be repaired. Wish I had thought to look on the internet for repair. My second hose sprang a leak a few days. It caught on a sharp edge on my patio. I looked at several videos this morning but yours was the best. I will go to Lowe's later and try it out. Thank you again.

I'll give this a try, so thanks. I wouldn't ordinarily bother to say thanks in a KZread comment box, but I appreciate the time taken to make this clip. I guess some people have had their lives quite literally destroyed by having to sit and watch something that they're getting for free for seven minutes, and I'm sure their shares have crashed during the five minutes in which they were unable to monitor the market, but I'm just not that important. I'm just trying to water my lawn.

Excellent repair. I agree that this is a great hose when it does what it is suppose to do. I just don't understand why the manufacturer can't come up with a type of rubber or silicone that doesn't get holes in it. Come on guys. Geez, there has to be someone out there that can perfect this! What a gold mine it would be.

Great fix. Thank you. Packaging states that the limit for the hose is 80 PSI. I've learned that the hose will probably not spring a leak if you don't turn off the nozzle you're using while the water is still on at the faucet. The hose just can't take the pressure. I haven't had a leak since I've been doing this.

Interesting. I get why that works but it seems impractical not to be able to stop watering, especially like washing a car. FYI. I trashed the last 2 hoses I had as I couldn't keep up with the leaks but I bought the "3x" stronger one at Bed Bath and beyond. As soon as I turned the water on, it was gushing out the side of the hose. Unbelievable! Took it back and reluctantly got another one and so far this one has been working leak free for a couple months now. I only decided to get this because BB&B has incrediable return policy/service and I know they will refund the money or exchange all year long. Plus they are very close to me.

Thanks for the video, I'll give it a try. I bought the new 3 X stronger" Pocket Hose and it's sprung a leak too. Pieces of crap, all that was - was clever marketing. I won't ever buy another one. tomx63, I agree. I bought the newer one but has a bust just like the one in the video. However... I just had an awesome customer service experience after watching this video and deciding to give the fix a try. While in Home Depot, I couldn't find the right isle so I asked a store employee and she was leading me to isle 29. As I was in route to this isle three Home Depot employees approached me asking me what I was looking for. I told them and elaborated as to what exactly I was trying to accomplish and they started steering me toward the new Pocket Hoses claiming that the new one was so much better. I adamantly stated that I would never buy another Pocket Hose. Next thing you know, one of the men told another employee to go get me one and just give it to me. My eyes just about bugged out of my head. Turns out he was the store manager and I had no idea who I was talking to. So, look at my brand-new advanced pocket hose. We shall see if this one works any better than the other two. Funny thing is, this same store manager said they hadn't had a single one of the new ones returned. Probably (like me) I'm too embarrassed to admit I fell for it again. LOL!

The pocket hose lasted all summer-- it's great for watering plants on the deck because it's so light. Of course it's not built to be left lying out on the ground. It's so light there's no problem carrying it in one hand back to the hose hanger. It has one leak where I stepped on it. I love this hose. I will try the shoe goo repair method first.

I don't have any roses. I now have another leak in the other hose I got. They are just little pinhole leaks. I think there is a defect in the rubber hose where there are bubbles in the manufacturing process in the rubber that eventually break and become holes. I've done nothing to cause the holes, they just suddenly appear. Oh well. I still like them and will continue to fix them for another year or so, but thats it.

Bought one last year. It sprung a leak within a couple weeks. Returned it for another. That one sprang a leak just last week. Was at store looking at the new ones. They now say '3 Times Stronger Than Original Pocket Hose'...... Which of course really would mean that the original (the ones I've had) are 3 times WEAKER than the one sold now -- for the same price. They way I see it then is that all original purchasers were Beta-testers. Glad I found this video for a repair; my leak is right near the original end fitting, although there may be enough hose length there to get the barbed-fitting on.

There were no 12mm couplers in my little town, just the 16-17mm size. To get the rubber hose over that fat coupler, I heated the end with my heat-gun and pulled it with needle-nose pliers. As you work it, it takes on a flare shape and eventually goes over the coupler. Push hard- a little dish soap as lube was needed too. When it's on, trim off around a 1/2" of the ends that were cooked by the heat-gun with an Xacto knife and push more. PS- Don't bother to do this if you don't like fixing stuff -- it takes a half hour+ and costs like $4 bucks- if you see that as a waste.

The first leak you repaired was leaking. If you want to repair the leak, dont put the covering in the hose clamp. Put it on the outside of the hose clamp and use zip ties to secure it. Putting the covering inside the hose clamp minimizes the clamping surface of your hose repair, thus you will get a leak

Mine was used three times and then ruptured within two minutes of turning on the water and walking to a container plant with the sprinkler nozzle off instead of spraying yet. Not sure if sun exposure weakened the hose or the pressure was too high in the line or the way I was storing it caused the problem. IDK. Glad to see the hose is repairable. Sat as an extra hose unused for too long to return. Now I see there may be no need to toss the hose since it may be repairable.

SHOE GOO is a MUCH simpler fix. ($5.00 at Meijer or any shoe repair ship). i covered the hole in the tube with a thick coating. Let it set for a short while. Then GOOed the seam in the green fabric back together with a thick bead. Let everything set for about 4 days. The SHOE GOO is clear. The leak is fixed.

Why Pocket Hoses Fail Description: 2 Plastic connectors on each end of the hose. One expandable tubing is clipped onto those connectors. One non-expandable but larger tube of tough fiber weaved outer jacket. water pressure causes the inner tubing to expand like a balloon. the outer cover prevents the inner tubing from over expanding and popping. The inner tube expands by water pressure. Then contracts when the pressure drops. The greatest pressure happens right near the connectors. Each time this happens, that inner tubing begins to form cracks. When enough cracks near to each other forms, water pressure forces it way through that weakened area, ending up as a leak, most frequently right near the connectors. The clip that holds the rubber tubing keeps it from expanding. Meanwhile, the non-clip hose expands. The difference between them generates the biggest cracks. Then at that area, it splits open. The more you use the hose, the sooner it splits open near the connectors. once you understand the problem with these types of hoses, you must decide whether or not they are worth your while. If you do a ton of use, then vinyl is the way to go. If occasional, then pockethose like products are the better choice.

What would happen if you just stuck a portion of a plastic drinking straw spanning from one end of the snipped surgical tubing to the other side, taping one end of surgical tubing each end of the straw? One might then use some sort of fabric mending tape over the outside of the hose. If you wanted to be hyper-conscientious, you could even sew the fabric ends together and then tape over them. Seems like that might be cheaper and lie flatter.

  • @morrison1998

That would never work with the pressure. This fix is about $1-$2 in parts if you don't already have stuff lying around. The new ones seem to be better now. Just buy from bed bath and beyond and they'll replace it for a long time after purchase.

  • @morrison1998

never had that happen. possibly hooking the opposite end of the hose to faucet and try to adjust pressure by. squeezing the broken end. maybe it can be worked thru like when a draw string gets pulled thru a hoody cause it got pulled too far. if you know what I mean(?). If you give up, you can try just cutting the sleeve shorter to get to it but now you won't really have the correct hose-to-sleeve length. it may not work right. if you get it out, try again and get the rubber tube as far over the barbs as possible (w/o using grease or oil) and clamp tightly. I actually tossed the one in my video 2 years ago, bought another at bed bath and beyond, that lasted til this spring and broke at the nozzle. but I brought that hose back in a plastic bag to BBB and they gave me a$20 credit when I bought their new black "stronger" one which was $30. they have great return policy.!!! this black one is noticeably. stronger, but my best advice is buy it from them.

sazure2 Editing is always better. You can stop the video and even go back as many times as needed.

Obviously, anyone watching gets the idea of the coupler, so the only thing people want to know is how you got the thin hose over the fat coupler ... just show that and don't waste everyone's time. Sorry, but your rambling on and on is totally annoying and irritating. Does You-Tube pay by the hour on videos or something?

sazure2 That's cause children generally do not have much of value to say. Running your life as an adult by kiddie rules is not for me.

sazure2 The video is useless. Have you fixed one of these things with this method? Until you have either shut up or ask those of us who have why this video is BS ... or maybe the producer of this video would be kind and honest enough to come back to and tell us how his repair and hose is making out?
