As usual I was observing for the Poachers on this trial. Nice to see some of the other sections in use. I enjoy these trials (non stop or it's a 5!) I too had concerns about originality of the bikes but thinking back how standard was Sammy Miller's Ariel or Gordon Farley's Cub? I bet the works Greeves differed more than somewhat from my '62 model Scottish. Many thanks for your videos of the Poachers Trials.

Hi, I had an absolutely brilliant day on an original BSA D7 Bantam. Yes, I discovered that the original clutch with new plates still slipped at the top of some of the steep inclines! My first time at this event, very many thanks to all the organisers.

Made me think. You don't see many Steambikes around nowadays. I do love the sound of these moreso. Lol

It seems a real shame that all UK "P65" events are set out for modern day Bantam powered specials, which have only become "P65" by decree of the STD committee! Means not a lot of fun for anything vaguely authentic, and without a 23 degree steering angle.

The Poachers Club caters for all abilities there are plenty of big bikes here as well as Bantam's a lot of the riders are over 65 a Bantam , Cub , James and Dot's enable them to continue riding. You also have to remember there are very few authentic bikes out there as companies like Ariel made only about 500 HT's which are spread world wide. A lot of the original bike have been restored in private collections and museums. If it was not for the home builders and others the sport would have died out years ago. Take a look at the poachers Pre 65 trials club on the web.

@@engtecforarielhtparts4347 It seems to me, if there are no rules governing "P65", then costs quickly spiral out of hand, and more authentic machines, simply cannot compete against such things as 5 speed Bantams, with chrom-moly frames, cartridge forks, tubeless wheels, etc etc? A few years ago an elderly trials rider, who was having problems coping with heavy bikes, made a twin shock machine, using a £300 pitbike engine. He won 2 Sammy Miller series on his shed built bike, which had cost not much more than a pair of modern day P65 cartridge forks. Seemed to me a great idea, and a cheap and fun way for entry level riders to access the sport? However following a concerted 2 year campaign to ban the bikes, that duly happened, and something that might well have headed the £8K Bantams off at the pass, was finished! Maybe if P65 was policed in such a robust way, modern day specials would be competing in their own specific class, and it would still be possible to compete against like machines, in P65 events?

Not entirely true sir. I entered, as a novice, on a clapped out and very authentic 1963 Royal Enfield and had a great day. A big thank you to the Poachers.

@@johndove5757It's good to hear of an original old bike being ridden and enjoyed! Sadly the majority of clubs running P65 events, cater for modern Bantam powered specials, which in fully spammed up STD 5 speed form, aren't that far from a modern bike! The sport seems to have lost it's way, with many riders believing they need a £10k modern special to compete on!
