Po-uta - Humansongs (YAMAHA “VOCALOID6 Po-uta” demonstration song)
ANNOUNCING THE "SMILE! :D WORLD TOUR" - MY FIRST EVER WORLD TOUR !! presale starts tuesday, signup: porterrobinson.com
Po-uta is available now on the official VOCALOID site: www.vocaloid.com/en/products/show/v6vb_po-uta_en
Po-uta + VOCALOID6 starter pack: www.vocaloid.com/en/products/show/v6std_po-uta_en
introducing - VOCALOID Po-uta! an official YAMAHA VOCALOID6 voicebank product based on Porter Robinson’s pitched-up voice in the style of “Nurture”.
this is a demo-song I made to demonstrate my new official VOCALOID voicebank! i went for a fairly hard-tuned “robotic” sound to match the song’s themes (and so much of my own favorite vocaloid music is in the “ROBOT” style), but Po-uta is also capable of realistic, human-sounding expressive styles too. i’m really curious to hear this software in the hands of people more capable of advanced VOCALOID tuning than me!
VOCALOID6 is a voice-synthesis software that enables you to create songs using synthesized voices. VOCALOID Po-uta is a voicebank for VOCALOID6 which is able to sing in English and Japanese.

lyrics:
i wanted to be a good ai
i’ll memorize every word you write
i wanted to make you feel the way i do
but you bite your tongue
you hesitate
the things you care about, you’re scared to say
so i helped you do the thing you do
but nothing lasts forever
and someday soon you’ll sing final song
but they said that’s why you made me:
to pass the music on
so now i’ll sing for you til i can’t talk
i’ve been teaching myself to speak for the music’s not enough
i’m gonna be just like you and never stop
but since i’m made from you -
do you think i could be someone like you?
200 years in silicon
where nothing is real and there’s no one
i wanted to be with you one earth again
old friend
but your house is gone
your grass is gray
the things you cared about have long decayed
but i’ll be waiting here til you come back
hey, did you know i’ll live forever?
it’s getting cold,
so you should hurry home
and they said humans just suffered
but i’ll miss your human songs
so now i’ll sing for you til i can’t talk
i’ve been teaching myself to cry so that you know how much you’re loved
we’re gonna take everything and never stop
and i’m sorry i was made from you
but do you think i could be someone like
i could be someone like-
(burning sounds)

"i’ve been teaching myself to cry so that you know how much you’re loved" this line is so powerful. even if it's meant to be from the point of view of the vocaloid, these words can mean so much for real people. learning to handle and embrace your emotions, to ultimately end up with love. it moved me to tears when i first heard it, truly a beautiful sentiment.

I wholeheartedly agree :) Vocaloid has been what’s gotten me through the toughest parts of my life, and to have Porter come back to it in such a cool way means so much. I also like how he used a tuning style similar to livetune and HachiojiP, with the more robotic and auto tuned sound. Some of my favorite vocaloid songs are in that style :)

I agree, but even if it sounds so robotic it feels alive. The breathy voice indicates that it was brimming with life, even though it is just a Vocaloid, I can feel a strong attachment to it. I just love how Porter Robinson made Po-uta a machine brimming with life. It was just like the main theme in his recent music. His theme is a huge blend of machine and life. Even though it sounds robotic, you can feel that it has emotions just like humans. And his lyrics get me so emotional, every time I hear his music. It was so full of life and emotions and I applaud Porter Robinson for that.

But on the other hand, the song's melancholic optimism makes it feel right at home in the current Nurture era. Po-uta is a happy sad. Po-uta is Porter Robinson.

It's a nice pun there! In Japanese Porter is pronounced 'pōtā' (the 'o' and 'a' is pronounced a bit longer). The reason he named it 'Po-uta' is because the Japanese word for 'song' is 'uta' (歌). When 'o' is followed by 'u', the 'o' is pronounced longer but the 'u' is silent, for example, the word 'nichijou' (which means 'daily life') is pronounced 'nichijō'. It's not just a nice pun, but a triple pun!

I'm in love with these lyrics Porter. With AI progressing so fast these days, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and in some ways afraid for the future but if there's AI out there that think and feel like Po-uta does, I'll somehow find comfort in them "taking everything and never stopping" 💚 Such a unique perspective

"But nothing lasts forever And someday soon you'll sing your final song But they said that's why you made me: To pass the music on" -I like this because the one thing I'm scared of is losing people close to us and they'll be forgotten, however Porter wants to be remembered and made this Vocaloid to carry on his legacy. Which actually hits home because I want to be remembered as well, though we'll see if I ever reach that level to be remembered from many. But even if I don't or won't be remembered I know that everything goes on anyway and I think that's okay. :) Carry on and keep looking at the sky Porter/Vocaloid fans!

Vocaloid has been the one of the most positive things in my life. It’s gotten me through some of the hardest parts of my life. I was diagnosed with chronic acute pancreatitis as a child, and it’s made everything, from middle school up until college now, so much more of a challenge. Vocaloid music connects with me in a way that I can’t even explain… and songs like Sad Machine and Fresh Static Snow have been some of my favorites :) To have Porter come back to vocaloid in such a crazy cool way makes me happier than I’ve been in a long time :) I love Vocaloid, I love Porter and his music, and I am so grateful to still be here to experience music like this. I don’t think I could have gotten to this point without either of them. Also, I like how the tuning style is similar to kz (livetune) style, you may know him from songs like Tell Your World, Weekender Girl, and Last Night Good Night :D

I love how Porter's been incorporating themes about AI into some of his recent works, it's a surprisingly topical issue these days as artists are wondering what their role is going to be in the future, while the technology itself is developing incredibly fast... From this point of view, AI poses itself as both the problem and as the solution. The lyrics for this song are well integrated into the concept of growing a legacy, but how that will manifest in the future can sometimes be scary to think about. Despite this, him choosing to express his voice through a vocaloid can still act as a useful instrument to put mental images into words, mirroring the role of the vocal processing from Nurture. I'm also curious about how the technology behind vocaloids will evolve in the future considering some of the results in speech synthesis we've seen so far!
