Gain consent 1. Ask them their name, DOB and allergy. Check their name band again and their name, DOB, allergy on medication chart. 2. Check the drug name, time administer, route, dose. Look for the drugs on the drawer. If the drugs are not on the drawer, check Ward Imprest. If the drugs are not on Ward Imprest, check with the pharmacy. 3. Check expire date, name of drugs if they match the ones on medication chart. 4. Before administering the drugs, check with another RN (drug, dose, route, time...) 5. Tell the patient briefly about the drugs: what it's for, possible side effects, etc. 6. Ask the patient again their name, date of birth and allergy. 7. Give them medication cup and water. 8. Tell them you will come back to check how the drug affects them and how they are going then. 9. Document. Sign.

As a registered nurse can you depend on others or do you have to be independent and know exactly what you are doing?

Take more patients, take more responsiblities, and find someway to fit it into your shift that was already too busy to take a 5 minute breather. THAT'S SOUNDS SAFE, RIGHT. And when you do screw up, and you will, you're HUMAN, enjoy your day in court ALONE! Your company WONT be there to support you. Think twice about being an RN and if you still want it...think a third time...and a fourth! You can make the same money at other jobs that have 1/10 of the stress. Caring for sick human beings can be one of the hardest jobs in the world.
