My shadow calling was the fact that I was being a psychotherapist following a standard psychotherapy protocol for years, not even realizing it. Not even realizing the depth of my obedience... Once I realized I was not being fully myself and that I could not thrive and blossom, I started following my own path. It is not easier but it is more fun, more fulfilling and more in synch with my truth. It fells like I am on the right path. A path of a deeper freedom and joy!

Ah ha! I thought my true calling was hopeless, because it is a competitive and oversaturated field. When #4 hit, "What is a Practice?" I had the epiphany. All I needed to do was follow the abstraction of my true calling. I thought the only way I could do it was through music and songwriting. But then, what I really want isn't exactly writing music. It's a combination of abstractions. They are: 1) Draw creativity from the other dimensions / the void 2) shape the treasure into something that can help people improve their mood 3) give it to the world When looking at it as a series of abstractions, I think I could be happy doing any creative activity. Maybe. #5 also resonated... nobody's perfect. Of course I will have to enter the void and allow the Muses their time. The gift comes through surrender. Very good stuff. I may have to read the back half of this book.

Wow was eagerly waiting for review. Thanks for all your efforts Brian. My favorite was " Hero wanders, Hero suffers, Hero returns" I could connect that with so many spiritual figures as well as mythological stories in India... The line almost sounds like a process with necessary and sufficient stages ... wow again

Hey Brian!! Thanks so much for another awesome episode. I love all of the reminders and my favorite big (and new) idea is the notion of a "shadow calling." Thank you for be vulnerable and sharing your story (especially when it's so fresh and raw) and living your truth. Your courage to "do what needs to be done" is inspiring and it's really forcing me to face my own "shadow calling." I was born to be a teacher, coach, connected. And, although I get to do some of that on a daily at a pretty awesome mid-size credit union, it feels off. I got my masters in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University which has served me well, but I think it was a safe route (not to mention a $100k of debt that has me feeling trapped). When I quit my first comfy safe job to pursue coaching I failed miserably and then I created this story in my head that the only way to make money as a coach was to be a leadership coach. Although I have a strong interest in leadership, it's not what I'm here to do and at the end of the day, I still work for a financial institution (helping people buy stuff they don't need to impress people they don't know) and it's also a place where I was hired to teach leadership and develop talent - which is fine, noble, and worthy work, but my true calling is to help people explore, discover, and create the most authentic, most awesome lives (which does relate but again, it's not quite it!). Shedding the skin and doing what needs to be done is the process I'm in right now BUT difference between you and me is that your courage muscles are way BIGGER than mine. When you realized that En*theos, as it was currently going, wasn't quite it, it seems like you just ripped that bandaid off quickly (shedding the skin within months) and me, on the other had, I feel like I'm ripping it off slowly because I'm scared if I do it too quickly, I won't make enough money to support my family, so the pain of doing what needs to be done has become a slow and arduous process that leaves room for lots of distractions. If you have any suggestions Brian, I'd love to hear them. For now, I'm going to take a deeper dive into the last few episodes to learn more about courage and creating habits and practices. Thanks for all you do, Bri! Love, Lori

***** Amazing. Thanks for sharing, Lori! I appreciate *your* vulnerability and journey. First thought: this will be fun for us to explore in the Q&As for the Optimal Living program! I think we each have different rhythms and responsibilities and circumstances, etc. It sounds like you continue to deepen your clarity and move in the direction of what you feel is your most authentic path--which is incredibly powerful and exciting. You're in this for the long haul so no need to feel rushed! :) We'll talk more but my #1 suggestion/question is always the same: How are your fundamentals? Exercising? Eating well? Resting? Meditating? :) Sending love and look forward to hanging out soon! -bri

@@HeroicBrian thanks for asking that question about fundamentals. I live with fibromyalgia, so my pace is always slower than what I want it to be. At times I want to tear through my tasks like the cartoon Tasmanian Devil, but I know that my fundamentals have to be solid in order for me to know myself and to know my path and to know what to do that brings the desired result. God Bless you.

Brian Johnson, it's great to see you back up front! I'd forgotten how inspiring and infectious is your love of the big ideas. My epiphany is #3: Ecstatic Hell. The Nietzsche quote hit me like cold water. "Wake up, woman!" I am in such resistance (fear) about razing this current life I'm living; wandering without bringing back the treasure. Who was it who said, "If not now, when?" Thanks, man!

Hi Brian I am currently right in the middle of my crucifixion/resurrection process. And I was led to this presentation exactly at the right time, as I am still filled with fear of embracing my destiny, and I'm still trying to find excuses to run away. My old ego (which I have recognized for what it is) is putting up a huge fight because it does not want to die, but I know it has to. I know that wonderful things are ahead if I allow it. Your presentation put that back into focus for me. Thank you so much, it helped me tremendously! Have a great day! Gunter :>)
