Hey, when I lay down I start to have sharp pain on my right side of my chest . When I inhale deeply it starts to have the sharp pain. What is is it called if that happens? And should I get it checked out ?

I had closed pneumothorax. I got by my fifth broken rib (I broke from 5th to 9th).

Hydropneumothorax is not contagious. However, if the patient has an infection, then that may be infectious.

It depends on what you mean by “effect”. There could be an effect, but it’s usually negligible. Of course, this varies from case to case. Please talk to your doctor!

TreyDay Damn! I have had six spontaneous collapses, one of which was a tension pneumothorax (that one sucked) as it very nearly killed me but I have had a couple operations back in 2005 and I have been ok since.

Are all closed pneumothoraces spontaneous? Do they maintain the zero pressure within the chest cavity because the air is coming from the lung not externally?

You said the central venous pressure would increase, that’s baffling because if the lungs are hyperinflated shouldn’t that push against your heart and affect your venous return, which would decrease your preload, cardiac output plus your BP, and your CVP?? I don’t see how a patient would develop JVD if the Systemic Vascular Returns are all down, unless it’s sub q emphysema

I am confused 😭💔 Now Open= air comes from outside/atmosphere Closed=air comes from the lung Spontenous= simple= air comes out and in Tension= air is trapped inside, comes in but not going outside Both open and closed can be either spontenous or tension Is that right? Especially "spontaneous =simple) ??????

operation was last Wednesday, still in hospital with the chest drain. they are not 100% because when I cough it shows a bubble in the ICC...

Can I fix a tension pneumothorax (stab wound) by putting duct tape over the wound? That would stop air from going in. No?
