the way the inlet valve on the airhogs motors are designed is similar to a combustion engine in the way that they both explosively fill the cylinder chamber with high pressure gas. It's this rapid shift in pressure that gives the motors their characteristic sound, it's a very satisfying sound

Those engines are so nicely small, why are you using such big housings for them? With those small cylinders an inline 6 engine could be approximately 18 studs long. And the inine 3 half of that. That would also eliminate all the twisting and friction, enabling the engine to spin much faster. Check www.lpepower.com btw or my youtube chanel.

Hi, but these motors are not requiring lubrication? Maybe you can try to mix some kind of oil with the pumped air. Just by nebulizing a tiny amount somehow, I think that it will improve durability and reduce friction

Here's a tip to make it work better, you need to make a delay between each pistons power stroke so that it runs as soon as there's pressure, this way it should also stall way less at slow speeds as the pistons will help each other with the initial push you have to give it to run good luck. ~James

Not an engineer, but have you thought about making your own pneumatic engine out of a syringe with the needle removed? Once you get it working, you could also use a small CO2 canister to make it self-contained. Maybe you could even use some LEGO Mindstorms to control the steering and throttle, but have the power come from the pneumatics.
