Rael was inducted into the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) Legacy Circle. The PMA Legacy Circle is a lifetime recognition award honoring those who have dedicated their lives to increasing the reach of Pilates. The first inductees include Joseph and Clara Pilates, and all Elders (living or deceased).
In his own words, the founder of BASI Pilates, Rael Isacowtiz, says:
"Being the first person that did not study directly with Joseph Pilates to be inducted into the Legacy Circle is an indescribable honor.
As I sat on the stage with the pillars of our industry - Lolita San Miguel and Jay Grimes, plus Mary Bowen and Anna Shafer on the screen, I was saddened that I did not experience Joseph Pilates firsthand, and never would. Yet, I had a sudden epiphany!
I had the distinct pleasure of receiving the teachings of Joseph Pilates filtered through four Elders, all geniuses in their own right. Each studied directly with Joseph and Clara Pilates, yet each interpreted the work very differently. Essentially at that moment, I realized that I serve as a bridge between the Elders and all present and future generations of Pilates professionals.
