    As a Junior in HS I am so thankful you posted this! Im just finding what a Physiatrist was like nobody has ever talked to me about it 😂 I was interested in Physical Therapy but now PM&R

    I agree! It’s probably the best specialty for working with athletes, especially if you’re not very interested in surgery.

    I went PM&R after several Ortho rotations. My recommendation - if you don't want to do surgery, don't do any surgical specialty. If you love the OR, you won't be as happy outside of it.

    For anyone who is wondering, you don't need a referral from an MD or DO to see a DPT. This is just the traditional way of things. Because of this, not all of the burden of making mistakes is fully on physicians. Additionally, in Europe, depending on the country in which you reside, you are also allowed to prescribe medications to patients as a DPT.

    Dpt is more rehab, less diagnosis, more hands on training with patients. Pmr is more medicine, diagnosis, etc does that help?

    Isn't this some kind of trying to wrestle pt? In many places, pt allowed to diagnose diseases and treat independently. You know doctors always want to lead but i see them not winning this with pt.

    I was just a so-so athlete. I decided that I loved working with athletes of all levels. I considered Cardiology, Radiology and other Internal Medicine specialties. PM&R and Sports really wowed me. Do a rotation - see if it's right for you.
