PM Lee knew about the affair since GE2020. Yet, he did not disclose to this to Parliament notwithstanding that Tan Chuan Jin, as Speaker of Parliament, was to be impartial and there would therefore be in a position of conflict. In a similar vein, Pritam was censured for not disclosing Raeesah's lies to Parliament. Is PM Lee going to be held to the same standard?

Frankly no because this is not an apple to apple situation. Raeesah does not have the level of accoutability nor access to any important and confidential state secrets as a Speaker of the Parliament. Thus, the process and investigation is needed to be handled at a much higher level. You do know that the CPIB is extremely busy this week. I live in the area, they are burning the midnight oil. Whoever you are, you obviously do not understand Singapore.

don't twist the facts. PS ask his member to take it to the grave regarding lying to the public. LHL give his members a chance to settle and part on good terms, but TCJ himself decide it's best to resign.

I have doubts, questions and a suggestion. For 2-3 years, we know the Speaker and a MP was having an affair but life went on in the parliament? Not convinced why we waited so long to act and why different treatments for different Speakers, notwithstanding the sensitivities and different circumstances. Also, had there been no affair, would the Speaker still be asked to resign had it solely been a case of “unparliamentary conduct”? In other countries, how is a Speaker removed? By their PM, or should there be some parliamentary process? How is a Speaker going to be neutral if he can be removed by the PM? Perhaps it is a good opportunity to look into appointing non-partisan Speaker, similarly required of our Presidency. The electorate will certainly prefer that to the current practice.

I agree. Also, someone really needs to look into his speech. Firstly, a clear line needs to be drawn. Words like “friend, comrade” should not be used. It gives the impression that he puts his generals before his country. Secondly, when the scandal was discovered, why wasn’t there a resignation back then and why was the handover process so long? Lastly, what kind of “friend” or “comrade” when told in Feb to end the relationship still continue to do so?

No lack of talent in Singapore any MP or Minister found of any wrong doing should be sacked immediately same goes for opposition party. Would actually prefer to see Lawrence Wong handling all the recent scandals and addressing the Nation and reporters rather than PM Lee. Its a good opportunity for the incoming PM to show what he can do and its time for PM Lee to take a break after 20 long Years.

The timing of when the affair was discoverered and when the resignation actually took place is where I have an issue with. While the PM gave the reason that partly it had to do with making sure Tan's responsibilities had proper coverage, he could still have officially stepped down earlier while others took over. The sequence of events makes me skeptical of this version of the narrative.

Grateful for our PM. He is still marching on and cleaning these messes up. I’m no expert but I do think we need to seriously reconsider how we are grooming and promoting the next generation of leaders. We must always look for character first, and be careful that we don’t put people on too high a pedestal. They are all human, and to be in power and not consumed is not easy. Do they have enough time to form beneficial friendships with shared ideals? Or is work unending and soul-sapping.. Do they have what they need to thrive? Do they have a proven track record of high integrity in all their dealings prior to politics? Of course these mistakes are inexcusable, so I don’t turn my mind to these questions as a way of excusing the behaviour we have seen. I am glad that the PAP has moral standards, unlike some other western democracies. I, like many fellow Singaporeans, am disappointed and somewhat concerned. People are vulnerable and we must do something to ensure the future of Singapore, since our future depends on good government. Without the solid foundation of character, support from family, and deep friendships with like-minded others sharing a deep love for this nation even the most capable individuals can crumble. I think those were things our late PM Mr Lee Kwan Yew had that allowed him to stay grounded and to execute the many ideas from his brilliant mind. He worked as a team with his wife, his intellectual equal, and a great helper to him, sharing a passion for our nation. Together they weathered many storms and with great discernment built a strong team to lead Singapore from third world to first. Majula Singapura 🇸🇬

You got a small in-house problem. Deal with it. Move on. There are other critical matters to deal with. Like the rising power of PAS in Malaysia and recent extreme racist rhetoric by Mahathir against his own Malaysian Chinese and Malaysian indian fellow citizens. If PAS takes power in future and Malaysia becomes ultra extreme islamic, it has impact on Singapore. Even the Sultans are not safe. Look at how religious cleric Ayatollah Khomeni deposed Shah of Iran.
