The majority of people that watch my channel are from the US and we have been spoiled with free 1 or 2 day shipping to the point that when I do leave links to the same products on Amazon and AliExpress hardly anyone ever buys from AliExpress even though often times it's cheaper there. I also hated my old “dumb” rgb strips that were around 10 bucks on Amazon and wanted a better solution. I have already spent Sever hours watching videos on your channel with everything I could possibly need to know to get started with WLED and making my own projects, but I will definitely be copying your amazing table when I saw the end result I gasped. Well done your videos have been amazing giving me confidence to actually start this and not use a cheep option that looks way less good.

Great videos. One thing I'm not sure of is the benefit of running 24 vs 12 volt. I understand that with greater voltage you can run smaller gauge wire. Why would I want to purchase the 24 volt instead of the 12-volt? I'm going to put LEDs around the perimeter of my game room. 88 feet. Would I be better off with the 24-volt? Will I be able to run all 88 ft off of one power supply? I'm assuming I could run 2 44ft strips off of one controller. Any help would be appreciated

Very cool. Love these videos as I'm about to start a room make-over myself and lighting is going to be a key piece of it. I do have some questions that might be worth making a video on as I'm sure it's a topic others would be interested in? I'm finishing up designing a new desk I'm going to build that'll handle all of my requirements for my office / recording studio. The desk is going to have multiple zones worth of lighting in that there will be ambient sections, work lighting sections, and tron style rail sections that I would optionally want to activate music syncing on. Plus there will be several other objects with lighting around the room as well (a ceiling mounted acoustic treatment with back lighting, accent lighting around the room, and a few more ambient zones). I really want to have a hardware controller for the whole room, not just to change scenes for the whole room, but also to be able to adjust individual zones on the desk or elsewhere in the room. The only way I can see to really do this easily with WLED is through Home Assistant. Hence my questions mainly revolve around how to take something like a stream deck (or other equivalent hardware with buttons and knobs) and set it up so the buttons can change scenes, can turn on and off the music syncing, and have some of the knobs directly adjust the brightness of certain zones as well as cycle through colors on those zones? Basically a master control panel for the room that will sit on the desk so when I sit down I can control all of the lighting in the room as I desire without needing to open an app or webpage. Cheers again for the great info on this topic!!

Hey chris, I'm looking at your comments in the description about how if using a 24v cob strip to use GRB and to swap W & G, what W and G would I be swapping? I've got a 4m strip hooked up to a 24v power supply and one of these controllers, I can't get the strip to set to a solid color. Each controllable zone is a different color and when I choose a solid color nothing happens. When I click "peak" it shows the solid color. So I'm assuming I either have something in the settings put in incorrectly or something with my hardware isn't working...

I thought 24v would be better, as it would provide a good amount of light. I was going to split the power load by running two 10m light strips (2 x 32ft) lengths off the one transformer (650w). Will one of these WLED controllers suffice, or will I need to use two controllers? If I need to use two, how do I sync the two controllers? Can this controller effectively operate two distinct LED strips simultaneously? I'm contemplating installing two strips within a corner diffuser. The intention is to designate one strip for color illumination and the other for pure white light. However, I am uncertain if this approach is advisable. Approximately a year ago, I corresponded with @chrisMaherDIY, who indicated that color strips might not offer optimal performance for dedicated white lighting. I am curious if technological advancements have since addressed this limitation, enabling LED strips to provide both superior color rendition and white illumination. If so, could you please recommend the most suitable LED strips and controller for this purpose?

Hi Chris, I wonder if you might be able to offer some advice. I’ve followed your tutorial on the 4 x 5m WS2815 LED’s, with one of the outputs extended from the WLED controller (mine has GPIO 1 and GPIO 2). I’ve used 22AWG 4pin LED Electric RGB Wire 22 Gauge Extension Cable 4 Core for RGB LED as I’m running 2 x 5m strips in 2 slat wall panels on one side of the cinema room and the same on the opposite side, but one side works fine however on the opposite side I’ve had to run about 5.5m of the 4 core extension cable, but hat side works once on switch on and then the data fails and it does all sorts except what it should. We know the LEDs are working fine and believe it’s a data corruption issue with the 4 core cable. I wonder whether you have any suggestions and if you’ve come across this issue before? Hope to hear from you soon. Many thanks. Per

Hi Chris, thank you for the inspiration. Qq, are you aware of any controllers that would allow me to have a wall light switch? So it would be light switch to transformer, transformer to controller and controller to light strip? I'd like to have the ability to at least turn on/off lights with a switch but then be able to utilize effects and colors with my phone. Let me know if you have any thoughts.

Hi Chris, love the videos! Q: For the 12v cob lights you linked, which are 21W / m. 105W total (5m strip). The 12v power supply you linked is 60W. Are you just limiting the Amps in WLED so that the power supply is fine? Trying to recreate your spiral project, so i assume this combo of power and 12V lights is fine? Thanks.

Hi Chris,... anyone had any issues with the wifi setup on this? I can connect to my home wifi but a static IP doesn't seem to work and setting to DHCP picks up an IP not in my home wifi subnet but strangely enough I can connect to that IP. Factory reset doesn't seem to work either, pull the power 5 times. I am on version 0.14.0 of software there is a 0.14.1 maintenace relase with a few bug fixes.

Why would the cob lights that I bought from your link be flashing different colors when hooked up to the second channel of the same controller that you're showing here when I have another set of LEDs in the first channel? They should be straight Amber right now but they keep flickering through all the different colors for no reason

Do not auto update the firmware currently. It will disable the microphone settings and you have to flash it manually to the audio reactive version.

Hi Chris your work is incredible and inspired me to do some things. I am new to led strips so i want to wire my pc setup its about 6 meters long with the SK6812 60 leds/m. I'm gonna combine it with the wled controller but i'm not sure about the power supply. From what you said and some articles that i read (correct me if i'm wrong) i need a power supply that has 5v supply voltage, power of 300 watt (found online that consumable power for 1m SK6812 is 43,2w) and energy consuption at 60A (also found online that is 9A per 1 meter).

I wish they can make one of this controllers Apple HomeKit compatible, so I can integrate it to my eco system and have some cool automation wit all my others lights I know Apple HomeKit has a lot of limitations but for example all the lights at my front yard at night are set to stay at very low brightness very very nice amber colors but when motion is detected all lights change to bright almost day light and look amazing and when the sensor stops detecting motion all my lights return to the low brightness… awesome video thanks for sharing

I would like to build something like your DIY Floor Lamps but I want RGBW strips. I'm thinking of going with the COB strip and the lower cost Muzata 2 Meter V-Shape LED Channel Aluminum Extrusion you covered in your diffuser channel for COB LEDs video.

I bought 2 16 ft fcob strips, 12v power supply and the controller and got nothing but flickering. I'm going to try the 5c pcbs with a different psu and see if i get a better result. For an off the shelf product you shouldn't have to add a resister to resolve flickering.

have you put a 2nd led strip on the spiral yet?.. you have another side that is empty and having 2 led strips, they would face each other by default in most places. meaning, you could get some interesting color mixing between the 2 opposing led strips facing each other in that wooden spiral etc... cool video thanx

Chris and all the Chris community. Here is an open question: I purchased all the items on this video and followed all the instrucions up to minute 5:42. However the intensity of the led lights is not bright enough. I think I have three options.... 1) use a 24 volt power supply; 2) Do power 12 V power inyection for each led strip... or 3) Raise the automatic brightness limiter to XXX mA. Anyone knows the solution? Alberto. Houston TX

@ChrisMaherDIY, thanks for finding new things to simplify LED installs.. Quick question, the controller with mic, can you disable the mic, or is it all dependent on what is selected in WLED as to whether the chosen settings use the mic or not?

  • @ChrisMaherDIY

    @ChrisMaherDIY

Thanks for watching and great question! It depends on the effect you choose. The mic will only engage if you select an animation/effect that is a sound react one. You still have all the non sound react animations and effects available that you can choose where the mic will do nothing on those. Hope that helps!

Hello, The maximum number of LEDs on this controller is 800, but you put 1200 LEDs ws2815 or are there 800 LEDs on each GPIO? Do all 1200 LEDs work with only 12 v and 10 A? Good video. Keep it up.
