Plein Air & Studio Painting Demonstration
Sometimes you can't finish a painting outdoors and need to complete it in your studio. Join artist Rachael McCampbell as she works through her process of completing a small 14" x 18" oil painting on panel of a landscape scene of a barn by a creek in TN. She discusses mixing colors, composition and other elements of art.

Thank you for sharing. I got to get that fabulous umbrella. I hope I find it. Painting from a photo has become my better half. While on location...Taking a plein air piece and then bringing it inside has become very controversial. Some consider that no longer plein air painting. It is a very nice piece. Wish you well.

Hi Tammy, I hope you enjoy your umbrella. There are plein air events that are timed events where it has to painted right then and there--end of story. I wanted to show that when you are on your own, you can do a hybrid piece if you want to. There are no rules with that--it's your life. But to your point, to be more precise you might want to title it a "Plein air/Studio Painting" or something along those lines. Happy painting!!! Rachael
I loved your painting style, I could believe how many times you “re-painted” the picture. I must admit I did wish you left some of the earlier versions, especially the sky. What a lovely location. The music I liked for the first five mins then drove me nuts 😂. I would have preferred the sounds of the water in the creek, but at the end I saw the road behind you so I guess that was why you went with the music. Thanks once again , I have subscribed!

Thank you Howard. I hear you about the music, I'd rather hear water too but the motorcycles ruined that for me. Haha. I often watch other artists paint online and say to myself, "Stop! It's perfect right there!" Painting is so subjective isn't it? Glad you subscribed. Thank you.
Ms. Rachel, this is without a doubt, my favorite plein air video. I’m just beginning my plein air journey and I find myself constantly drawn back to this video. Thank you so much!

I just found your video and it is EXCELLENT; no wonder it has thousands of views. THANK YOU for planning, filming, explaining, and posting this great demonstration. I hope you post more like this in your channel; it could be studio work, plein air or both (like this one) but real-time with color mixing explanations. This is enjoyable and educational. Loli 🎨

Thank you so much, Sharon. You could take a photo of a coffee mug on a table and it would be okay looking but then, you paint it, and suddenly the coffee mug takes on a whole new life. It goes from ordinary to extraordinary with paint. And that is why I like to paint. Why do you like to paint?🤩

I was drawing on newspaper before i could write. The art lives in me. I see things a photo don't show. I am the creative type. I make jewlery, crotchet, don't use directions. Many more things i do. Lots. You do nice work yourself

Hey Alec. I have different videos where they are sped up. Since this is an instructional video, I decided to run it mainly in real time for those who want to see the whole process. This is a time lapse video for example: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gYx5xpKEh7HUg9o.html

For me a fast painter, this video has too much talking before the painting begins. I suggest you start the video with painting footage so your viewers don't get bored with the talking foreplay.

There are thousands of videos on KZread, and this is a fantastic one. If you don’t like it, move on. Some of us are looking for exactly this and discouraging an artist from expressing themselves in their own way is lamentable.
