In this lesson we will learn how to write a PLC program using an "S7 300” PLC and “STEP 7” software.
We have two pumps which are being used to transfer two separate liquids into this tank.Inside the tank there are two level switches installed in the lower and upper parts of the tank respectively.
There is also an electrically powered mixer inside the tank which starts working for a defined period of time, mixing the two liquids together after the tank has filled.
We also have a discharge valve in the bottom of the tank which controls the draining of the liquid from the tank.
When the level of the liquid drops to the level of the switch's position the contact closes, sending a 24 volt DC signal to the PLC input.
We want to write the program so that when the level of the liquid reaches this minimum, the pumps will be activated and begin filling the tank with the liquids.
The pumps continue filling the tank until the level reaches its maximum at the higher level switch. When this happens the open contacts in the switch will be closed and another 24-volt signal will be sent to the PLC input telling us that the tank is full.
When this signal has been sent, first the pumps should shut down so that no more liquid enters the tank, and then this mixer should be turned on.
We want the mixer to operate for seven seconds, mixing the liquids that have been pumped into the tank.
After seven seconds the mixer should automatically shut down and this discharge valve should open.
With the valve open the liquid will be discharged from the tank and transferred to another location within the factory to be processed.
When the level of the liquid in the tank drops to the minimum set level of the lower switch, the switch contacts will close again thus starting a repeat of the cycle!

    @@madfrosty5228 Don't know if you still have that question but the counting goes from 0.0-0.7 then 1.0-1.7. So there is no 0.8 and 0.9

    I remember getting a taste of this stuff when the processing room I used to work in was getting retooled and programmers were working to get all valves, mixers, sensors etc. operating correctly. I as a lowly operator got to see that. Never knew how much went into programming something simple as turning a mixer on or off.

    Hi there, Sorry it seems like we have not been notified for this comment. I know it's too late and you've have probably found the answer to your question but I'm answering this hoping it can be helpful to others. The PLC hardware that we use depends on the specifications of each project. For instance, when you have 12 digital input signals, you need to select a digital input card that has at least 12 inputs. In this case you can select a 16-point digital input card and use the additional 4 inputs as reserves in the case you needed to connect additional digital input to the PLC in the future. So the type and number of signals that you have in each project determines what PLC modules you need to use. The PLC hardware that we use in the software are exactly the same as the hardware we use in the electrical enclosure (the real world environment). I hope this help.     Please I need your advise , I have a project where I am expected to come up with a diesel dispensing system such that the pump to discharge diesel discharges an amount of diesel based on how much of diesel is needed at that time just like typing in 2000 liters to be discharged in a storage tank , a good example is a fill station dispensing unit . Now we have on ground a pump , a flow meter and a batch controller but a solenoid valve , a valve and a manual valve to be installed just before the flow meter in case we need to carry out maintenance on the flow meter . now based on the work philosophy my question is what kind of solenoid valve and valve can you recommend I use for this processes as the solenoid is meant to actuate the valve so it will closes ones a certain amount of product imputed has fully reached its final point ,and the pump is cutoff immediately the solenoid valve actuates the valve and it closes to avoid further flow of the fluid down the line .

    I hardly know what you're doing but this seems very simple to learn. I am looking for things that would interest my 14 year old son. I have a very basic understanding of how a PLC works, I'm more of a math and science kinda gal. But, I've always told people, make your computer do your work for you!👍

    Please help 1. I need the connection between the laptop and the Siemens 314C 2DP. 2. The LAMP of the SF is RED and cannot access the station even after MRES. What is the possible trouble? thanks a lot

    mike samaki put the MRES into the RF converter hooked up to the SF. It should reboot automatically and get code 43FG2 so you then just rewrite the code and put it in the LAMP

    I have logic could u do program for it. when we move a 50 value then after moving the value is to increment by 1 and after 1sec it has to decrement by 1;after reaching the increment value as 100 and decrement value as 0 again it should start incrementing the 0 value and decrementing 100 value 1sec.

    My Senior Design group is trying to create a very similar application to this. The video was very helpful in determining what we need for PLC inputs. Do you have any recommendations on actual sensors that would operate similar to your high and low level sensors? We have found different proximity sensors and weren't really sure what to go with. Whatever you had envisioned for this program would work perfectly for us.

    The inputs are identified by bytes, with 8 bits per byte. A 16-point input card requires 2 bytes. The first 8 inputs are in Byte 0 and are inputs 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7. The second 8 inputs are in Byte 1 and are inputs 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7.

    can anyone help me with a plc problem im stuck with if somone could reply with a solution that would be much appreciated: problem: The process cycle is started by pressing the start switch the start switch, which puts on a system running indicator light and the conveyor belt motor. Boxes pass along conveyor belt and will be measures by sensors 1 and 2. When a box is detected at the sort solenoid the belt will be stopped. If it is a short box it will be pushed off the side of the belt. If it is a long box the auxiliary motor Am1 (simulated by a light) is activated for 3 seconds. The belt will be restarted and a long box will be allowed to pass off the belt. The system should put the belt main light off when the third long box has passed off the belt. If the stop button is pressed, everything should stop and the system reset.
