Please make comparison, PS Portal vs Remote Play App (Android, iOS, Windows) to see if Portal has any advantage over app in lag/latency/quality department. Ofc over same network, same distance etc with PS5 connected over cable and wi-fi.

It's just doesn't seem worth it. For almost $200 I can play my ps5 while in the bathroom. I'm struggling to think when this would be worth using. Regarding the earphones, it just seems like a lot of money. I'm sure the audio is incredible and crisp. But with half the money you can get headphones which are the same I'd not better What are other people's thoughts as Im wondering practical use beside what Nick stated in the video of someone else using the TV

I'm buying the earphones because it also can connect to bluetooth and play that audio at the same time as having PS5 audio. I haven't seen other earbuds able to. It's a great feature of my Inzone H7s but I hate wearing the over the ears. Fatiguing to me after 30 mins

I'm sure this is a very nice product but I still fail to see who this is really for. It's weird to me that Sony looked at the Switch and it's success and decided this was a method of getting some of that market, because it isn't. I just don't get it - it's such a niche product that seems more niche and destined to fail than the Vita, the PSX, or the PSTV.

Might be a niche product for you but PlayStation has offered Remote Play for over a decade. Clearly they have the data to support that there is a market for this. Really seems to be geared for parents/gamers with families. For me, I have two young kids. By the time they go to bed I just went to chill out on the couch, throw a show on the TV while the wife plays her games on her phone and I remote play my PS5 on my iPhone with my BackBone controller. Will definitely be swapping out my Backbone for this.

We’ll see if it’s niche or not as the sales develop. So far, it’s doing very well. It’s for Dads. I have other option for remote play but this seems more convenient.

I noticed you had airplane mode setting on the Portal screen. What does this do, since I think without the connection the device is basicaly useless?

How can you hear your surroundings when wearing the earbuds? is it possible to have a conversation with another person in the room? Is there a option for *Audio through*? My fear is that i just cant hear anybody if i wear these. As example the PSVR2 has a Audio menu on the Playstation itself where you can loop Ambience audio through the mircophone to the little earplugs. This way you can hear through them.

Could you test to see if muting the dualsense controller mutes the mic on the earbuds as well? Great video!

Even with the issues with both products when it comes to pricing & what they offer, the biggest is the ps link. A purposefully anti-consumer tech that not severly limits the usage of these products, even other sony products. Even apple, one of the most agregious when it comes to anti-consumer in tech, allows bluetooth connect with the audio tech on other devices.

You can pair them with your phone through bluetooth, Mac or windows computer like any other earbuds.

Some KZreadrs tried using Bluetooth adaptors to see the results and it was poor. Since this device is made to stream, the Bluetooth would have severe latency issues. Just plug some in

Why buy the Portal when you can just pair a controller you already have to your phone you probably already have and stream that way with earbuds you probably already have lol Also, pretty comical that the earbuds cost the same amount as the Portal, both almost totalling the cost of a PS5 itself

You totally can use your phone for remote play. But the benefit of the portal here is you get the dualsense style controls built right in (youre not forced to prop up your phone or use a 3rd party device that might have extra input lag) Also, my phone screen is pretty big. The portal screen is HUGE by comparison.

I honestly didn't know what screen this thing had when they sent it, and I assumed it was oled because it was so bright and vibrant. It's not, though, def lcd - but way brighter than the other portables i have around the house.

Fr man. The vita was so ahead of its time, it’s insane. The switch, steam deck and other modern handheld gaming devices owe a lot to it and it still has a better dpad than any portable I’ve used. Sony killed it by forcing extremely expensive proprietary memory cards that weren’t optional, basically not marketing it after the first year and slow launch and then only finding a few high profile games before stopping game development altogether for it. There 100% was and still is a market for a portable PlayStation device but I doubt they’re even considering it due to their focus on home console titles and even VR which currently aren’t viable on handheld hardware. It sucks because the psp was also objectively a successful console, it didn’t do Nintendo DS numbers but it sold extremely well and software sales only slumped due to the ease of piracy later in life. The proprietary cards in the vita were meant to curtail piracy but it really only ended up killing any chance it had of being widely adopted, the prices were honestly insane from memory, like 120 dollars for 32 gigs. Especially as games were more and more moving to digital, they really fucked themselves by doing that.

So do the earbuds have a mic? I wasn’t too sure on that and Is it possible to just use one at a time? I’m one that prefers just to have chat come out of the headset and usually use a one ear headset. So If it’s possible to use the earbuds separately I’d love to get them if that’s the case

I know people seem angry at the lack of BT support but PS link offers higher bandwidth allowing lossless audio. So better sound quality.

I have a steelseries artis of some sort that i use primarily. I think earbuds in general are still not as comfortable as over the ears, but the audio quality was def comparable. For portable use, these new Pulse explore are likely going to replace my JBL earbuds that I've really liked for a while

No, i used their pslink dongle included, and the audio came in properly and with really good quality. Of the two products, the earbuds might be one of my favorites

THAT is why they didn't put a damn volume rocker on the VR2. obnoxious, brain-dead price-gouging. thanks for reply though. great channel.

I've seen people use it outside with a mobile hotspot. You can also use a different wifi than your ps5. Its not their recommended use for the device, but it does technically work

For $200 it should be 120hz, 90hz minimum. PS5 is marketed as a 4K or 120hz machine, so that should be no problem to push that many pixels, and any modern router should have no problem. And if you can afford this thing, you can afford a good router

To be fair, I think most games on Playstation run at 60 fps most, and required bandwidth would be large. The console has to run the games and also upload the frames in real time, so streaming at 120 Hz may be harder than it seems. But I agree the price is ridiculous. I'd say keep the screen at 1080p60 but lower the price to reflect that.

@@jez0608 60 fps at 4K upscaled on the console, is still theoretically 200-240 fps at 1080p. It would use half the console power to push 1080p 120hz. And anyone with a PS5 and can afford this would have a good router to easily handle the bandwidth. People have been streaming to VR headsets for years at many times more pixels and hz

If that system is ONLY capable of remote play rather than being it's own system, then I hope nobody buys it and that Sony or PlayStation realizes the Vita was better. However, I am interested in those wireless earbuds.

Wish you did a distance test for the portal my PS5 is located on the first floor and on the second floor with newly sleeping kiddos it's the perfect place to get some gaming in between feedings or putting kids to bed also being able to play from my own bedroom upstairs with the PlayStation 5 housed in the living room I would need to make sure that would be adequate otherwise it's a deal-breaker I guess I could test drive the thing and return it

I did exactly that. i just didnt record it cause i had to carry around a lot of these big lights to capture broll footage for this. I specifically tested playing games from my 2nd floor living room setup while I was in the 1st floor basement on the opposite side of the house. I hooked into my router above me, which is technically separate from the one my ps5 is hooked up to (same internet, diff router) and it played great!

I don’t get all the hate for this product. I personally love gaming while laying down and this gives you that option for only $200 (if you own a PS5.) it’s going to be a much better experience than a comparable hand held like the switch for $300+. Ask yourself how often do you actually use your handheld outside of the home?

The difference is that for $300 you have a playable switch, or for $350 you have a playable steam deck. For The PS Portal you need at minimum a $600 for the PS5 discless and the Portal. At that price you can get the limited edition Steam Deck OLED 1TB which has a 90hz screen. I'd rather have a Switch or Deck that is an ACTUAL mobile device that I can take anywhere and doesn't require an internet connection or other piece of hardware to run. If I'm at home I'd just use my Playstation or PC if I wanted to game. The whole point is it BEING PORTABLE, it can only be portable at home which is barely portable at all. Wanted to use it on a road trip, take it on a flight, vacation, work, school, well too bad it doesn't work at any of those places.

On top of that AAA PS titles which stomp the shit out of any switch game any day of the week. All the entire final fantasy series , god of war, spiderman, uncharted , horizon zero dawn / forbidden west, ratchet and clank , ECT . The list goes on and on . Not understanding who this is for is likely only happening to people who don't own a PS5 . It's extending that to a portable platform with dedicated native software on a native device built to pair with the ps . It's not rocket science and the portal offers a lot considering it's my PS5 on wheels. It sold out everywhere so obviously people know it's worth and want it including myself.

My problem with PS Portal is that I can use my smartphone, a 10$ phone holder for Dualsense and a free PS Remote Play app to stream from my own console. And that can also be used for Geforce Now, Xbox cloud, Steam Link and mobile games. PS Portal has less functionality than this and costs 20 times more.

all toghter cost me 440 bucks and withiut a PS5 i cant even use this. This way to expensive. If the PS Portal cost 50 to 80 Bucks maybe ok but half of the PS5 no way

Some nice pre packaged e-waste. This product is a terrible idea and the design is aweful, my darn gamegear looks better designed....

I'd love to buy but my WiFi is pretty bad

the only market I can see for Portal is Asia, especially Japan with it's one room apartments and no space for large TVs. Probably the reason why NS sells in Japan so well and reason Sony has come up with this.

The target audience seems to be people who dont have access to their tv. Say your kids want to watch TV, or your wife/husband. You can keep playing on the portal while they watch their show

I'm a Playstation guy, and I feel the opposite. Sony recently keeps dropping the ball. They significantly raised PS+ prises, and now they release Portal, which is useless considering there is a PS Remote Play app for smartphones. Buy a 10$ phone holder for Dualsense controller and you basically have all the functionality of the Portal, but you can also use it for other cloud gaming services and you can connect any wireless headphones you want (Portal only has wireless audio with the pulse explorer).

@@scottd7222 Because you cannot use it without a PS5. And you need to be connected all the time to even use it. The DualSense Edge cost 240. So that's more than Playstation Portal. 60 is the most I'm willing to spend for a controller. The Playstation Portal is waste money, sand and plastic.

This is a sad product, true to the legacy of Jim Ryan ahead or Playstaion.
