They 100% could have designed the one with the disc tray better. They made it look less pleasing in order to force people to buy the digital one. Sony has been trying to put third party game trading to death for years. They came out with their game subscription service to push people away from game fly and are doing the same with this design to make people want to give up physical games. If they can force people into buying games from their store then they can control market price to keep profit high and control all of the sales. I wouldn't be surprised if the digital version is 50 bucks cheaper and has 100% the same performance as the other one. Sony is willing to take a one time 50 dollar loss to make sure that they constantly get you to buy games through their digital platform. If would take like two or three game sales to recover the 50 dollar loss they would take from selling you a digital edition console.
