I agree. However I feel like it comes with a qualifier. Games back then didn’t really need (or people didn’t need) all the interface options there are now with modern consoles. Consoles were simple back then. You had your basic options and your game. That’s about it. Unfortunately now since ps3 and 360, the menus have barely changed. Even Nintendo moved over to that format with the Switch. It definitely is upsetting. But hey, there’s always big picture mode on Steam (kidding of course haha) Hopefully one day one of the game companies, or even a new game company, will strive for the aesthetically pleasing aspect. It’s kinda funny how all the consoles back in the day had this kind of thing. Maybe not in the exact way ps2 did, but I grew up with gamecube, ps2 and original Xbox and they all kinda had this futuristic thing going. It’s funny. These older consoles seem more futuristic than the new ones!

I still play ps2 on pcsx2 till this day, I don't touch any of this online shit finishing crash nitro kart and sims bustin out right now and when my brother or cousins come over i fire up WWE 2009 or Twisted metal 2 on the PS1

Fact: The crystal cubes in the boot screen are actually the amount of memory is on the system. If theres none, then that means theres no memory card installed or your data is all used up.

Look man i dont care what people say but the old days of consoles were such an experience..... They just look beautiful. Not to mention mess with them and they can be scary as fuck (Ahem. RSOD)

Those sounds always remind me of the PS2's launch day when I got it home and turned it on for the first time. There was a serious shortage of consoles at launch and if you had not pre-ordered it was several months before you could get one. My PS2 still works today and I have recently hooked it back up and have been playing a bunch of games on it. I wish Sony would tweak the graphics and add an online mode for Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 and sell it on the PlayStation store.

Using the component cables makes a huge difference...you need a high quality tv that has 6-7 inputs on it...right before smart TVs. One console on every input.

+ShadowKrueger It's an emulator the PC called PCSX2. If you want to get a little bit of HD atleast on the PS2, you should purchase Component Cables for it and get an HDTV, or even a CRT.

No now you have HDs that run out of space easily and slow running consoles that update constantly, freeze, interrupt gameplay, require firmware updates, things stop working after various updates, hacks and violation if privacy, messages appearing during gameplay and movies etc killing any magic that would come along with any moment just to know jimmy boy signed on or that you won some pointless trophy etc. Miss the old days.

Ahh... Simpsons Road Rage, Crash Bandicoot... This was the console that brought me and my cousins together. R.I.P

playstation 2 had a weirdly inviting, but also anxiety inducing system. Like the empty voidness backrounds, but the nice ambience.

that is only for ps1 games on ps2 (pcsx2 does not emulate ps1)

2004? - 2013? I've played the console for about a decade. It couldn't run some games like it used to, but chilling in the BIOS and soaking up DarkCloud 1 and .hack's unique aesthetics were my most ethereal experiences when I was younger.o Now, I'm growing up to strive for minimalism and the experimental. :D

One cool thing is that if the CMOS battery dies, then the blue orbs stop moving. I think it’s because it’s controlled by the BIOS and not by the OS, if the PS2 even has an OS.

You probably figured it out, but yes, you do have to make a new save and start from the beginning.

make sure dpad is configured and use that if analog not working maybe

At 0:01 the song I heard it like thousand times in my ps2 because It was not working properly and ot started again and again but I had good memories of ps2

If I remember right you just pop in a disc while your within that menu. Then hit the power button once and it would restart and play. Don’t quote me been over a decade since I’ve used an actual ps2.

+ShadowKrueger just download pcsx2 and run the bios, set the internal resolution to 3x or more, and use anti-aliasing with the GSDX on Direct3D (anti-aliasing doesn't work with OpenGL right now).

Its simple turn off your ps2 and insert a disc and then turn it on again and then you can play
