Mike George- my take, an American David Bennett teaching music theory. Despite my studying some years, this first intro for me to circle of thirds. Revealing!

if the 2 tones rule is a majority of the basis of chord subs, im kinda mad that i was trying so long to figure this out. because it more or less, for common triads, means u only can make minor to major and vice versa and u can make a minor chord into a major one halfstep lower (and the reverse) and thats about it, purely structurally. i guess then maybe u do stuff with aug and dim but a 2 shared tone restriction basically means u just shift between the preset set of chord shapes and theres only so much u can reach from any given chord.

You may have explained it & I missed it - why is the circle of thirds in that odd “sawtoothy” shape?

So glad I came across your site. I'm watching from England. I love Music Theory. Sorry a bit of a nerd I am afraid. I just want to say that there aren't many people who can teach it but also get it across to people in the way you can. Certainly will be following your site now. Had to watch the Live Stream in catch-up over 2 days. So much information to absorb and process. Also as I am a pianist and don't play the guitar, I had to convert everything to the keyboard so that I could navigate what you're actually referring to, playing and teaching.

7:51 Just a quick mnemonic to remember the circle of 3rds (triads): E - Every G - Good B - Band D - Deserves F - Fans A - And C - Cash This is an easy way to remember the notes in a triad until you can think of them instantly. Hope it helps.

Spain. All you say is very interesting. but then, how is it that people like the Beetles are able to create music without any knowledge of musical theory at all?
