Being that I was a RUSH fan going back as far as 1974, I was learning Alex Lifeson's parts mostly, but started with Geddy Lee's bass and vocal parts. I never got good enough on the drums to pull off Neil Peart. Guitar became my main instrument. By the album 2112 I learned almost all Alex Lifeson's parts, except the lead parts. My problem though, was that I had too many interests to focus much on one. But, I've listened to this particular song thousands of times, even watched Neil perform it about 10 times live and dozens of times on video. His drum parts are pretty much etched into my neuro pathways, so I can confidently say that you NAILED IT.

Absolutely amazing. I can’t wait to hear your original comps. That’s the thing about Peart… yes, he is one of the best drummers of all time, but the talent lay in composition. He had to hear this, envision it, and create it…that to me is the most impressive part. And of course he was a well-read nerdy lyricist. Keep up the amazing work, and transcribe your catalog into originals!!

Great job, always one of my favorite tunes to play along with, I must have listened to Tom Sawyer 10,000 times before I got the drumming right, and man sheet music would have really helped out back in the 80's when I was learning to play this...

Avery, I've watched a lot of Tom Sawyer drum cover videos, seen a lot of local, well-respected players do great---and some not so great---versions of this song, and I honestly have to say---your version here is the cleanest and tightest I've ever seen or heard. Great job putting in the work to learn and play this masterpiece! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

I won’t add to the well deserved laudatory comments except for this: I’m happy to see someone besides me who plays wearing just socks and not chipping the high hat with the left foot pedal while playing the ride. Btw, I thought I knew how to play this by ear WAY back in the day (circa 1988) until I bought the sheet music and picked up several nuances I had missed. Beautiful work on this, well done!

ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL Avery! This is a very tough cover to play and you knocked it out of the park! Very impressive to say the least and have watched it you played it 7 along with several others! You've definitely got a career ahead of you and if someone doesn't hire you on I'll NEVER BELIEVE IT! Nice job and keep on keeping on!

That was a real treat watching you play that song to perfection. You have definitely broken that song down and put it back together again. I sure wish I had that matched grip mastered like you do. You are light years ahead of me. Thanks for the great video.

Well done Avery! I’m 58 been drumming my whole life and playing Tom Sawyer was and is way beyond my skillset. Your attempt at age 7 topped my best attempt lol. Very impressive, i know the practice it takes to nail that song and this time you absolutely nailed it! Great stuff! You just may be the next Neil Peart if you stay on this trajectory

You have nothing to apologize for. We've watched you now for over 6 years as you have stunned and amazed us all with your talent and skill! Avery you have nothing to prove to us or anyone else! I think Peart would approve and this is coming from a Rush fan from back in the 70's. I've said it before and I'll say it again. you are a prodigy and you always have been. Thank you for sharing your amazing gifts and talent with us all. We really appreciate it. I still love your calibration on the song "Clarity" by Zedd and your dedication to Eddie Van Halen and your rendition of "Right Now" which was moving and powerful. You have an audience and a voice... use it wisely! We love you Avery...Keep rockin'

First of all...I am SOOO relieved that I took the time to see what you were up to more recently. When I saw that little 7 yr old get pulled up on stage to play AC/DC covers, or the old Rush covers, I thought, OMG....what if playing all this metal, hard R&R stuff affected him in the wrong way? I've lost so many friends in this business...OMG! Am I going to find he OD'd when he was 10 or 11? Will he look like Slash, from G&R? Whew, was I relieved! Thank you Avery, for being such a musical savant, for being such a hard worker, taking the time to learn how to read music (it's amazing how many drummers don't), and for growing up learning your passion, and mastering it by age 14! I am truly AMAZED! I could not be more happy for you & all you've accomplished! 😁

I can tell by your body language while you play that your rhythmic abilities are an innate gift to you. Amazing job on this, you nailed the precision, technique and power of the piece. Neil may have hit those rolls in the break a little harder but this was an A+ bravo
