Spear supremacy will always reign on the battlefield Swords are just fancy and cool to look at but having superior reach is almost always better, can't be hit if you hit them first (hence why ranged will always be king in the end)

There is something so satisfying about the melee infantry factions in Shogun 2 that reward glorious, mouth-breathing, charge-down-the-gullet tactics.

The gunpowder units are also much more satisfying than the newer games

I think shogun has some of the best infantry focused play of any total war title. Getting down and watching melee units fight was so satisfying in this series. Their sync kills and movements were awesome, and it really felt like melee units could turn the tide

"I think shogun has some of the best infantry focused play" Im sorry? the game has 1v1s and not even collision lmao, its just as horrible as everything else that came after Medieval 2 which only Warhammer finally fixed. If you ever think this is good or playable you really have no clue about Total War and never paid any attention to the Detail at all. What in the world is satisfying about them seeing 1v1 only while pushing each other alot? Ew.

@@PuellaMagiHomuraAkemi The graphical representation of the battle comes second to the tactical gameplay. I think he meant to say that shogun has good infantry gameplay with balance and defined roles and matchups. In Warhammer infantry is generally cannon fodder and gets destroyed by magic, monsters and single entities. I say this as a stinky old school warhammer fan by the way

A single engagement for the capture of a critical castle during my Chosokabe campaign remains the single most memorable battle I've ever had in any total war series. Our forces were heavily outnumbered, however we had the element of surprise on engaging the castle immediately after the defending forces had departed. So while our forces made a mad dash to seize control of the fortifications from the defenders, two squads of seasoned ashigaru bowmen were told to hold the only gateway into the castle, until friendly forces could reinforce them once they controlled the castle. Those two squads single handedly kept the reinforcing general and cavalry at bay long enough to capture the castle, and be reinforced by battle worn ashigaru spearmen. That victory gave me the momentum to ultimately win the campaign.

He had 3-4 years since his announcement of shogun 2 video probably played them all.

I'm late to this but the Hattori are hands down the most fun clan to play, even if you could lose the campaign at any moment

Hattori actually very good, you can do very mad stuff with the extended deployment zones

I can understand the Ikko Ikki and Otomo favorites. Ikko’s got awesome monks and cool early swordsmen. Otomo is my personal favorite for obvious reasons. Why do you enjoy Uesugi?

@@RobertusMaximus I dont really know why I like Uesugi, maybe its the Monk aesthetic. I certainly enjoy the early game Challenge, especially when I startet playing them. Though in late game where you basically just bulldoze everyone they certainly can feel very vanillaish. Unlike Ikko Ikki who struggle with public order and communism and Otomo who mow down enemies with no respect. Also destroying annoying Honma and having a very wealthy and safe Province early is pretty neat.

Playing oda against Takeda shingen, I create triangle formation, 'Yari triangle', Takeda's Cavalry charge feels nothing, 'Yari triangle' is basically a fortress on the battlefield

Hattori is probably the most overpowered clan if you know how to play. You can have 4 provinces on turn 4, 2 of which are among the richest provices in the game. The upkeep cost doesn't even matter by turn 20 you can get 7k per turn. You can ally with the Ashikaga early on and get insane replenishment if you get infinite military acess from them. There's also the Ikko Ikki regions nearby and Ikko Ikki are best dealt with at the very start of the campaign, Same with the Oda. Not to mention, all Hattori generals start with Night Battles which in itself is ridiculously OP. Vanguard deployment for all infantry and archer units? That is so broken. The 33% upkeep cost is nothing in comparison to how quickly you can get rich provinces as the Hattori.

@@spacewargamer4181 What he means is that Kyoto has insane replenishment rate (citadel + post roads), so if you ally the ashikaga you can replenish in their territory with military access.

Shogun 2 beat me lol this is the only total war that i cant play on very hard, playing in hard campaign that is okay ^^

Yk, even if Oda is the strongest clan in the game, it is still a hard job to ever start very well during your first few turns. So there shouldn't be any canny Bob here, as Legendary itself made the entire campaign much harder, making victory over a clan about 10x harder to achieve than any other difficulty. It'll only be worse for players who never thought of playing in higher difficulties, and would possibly be 30x harder for them to play the game normally like how they do at Easy or Normal difficulty. Edit: Though this all can be countered by good strategies in the battlefield and organising the units properly, and how you make decisions throughout the entire campaign.

I appreciate the detailed response, but I hard disagree. Oda’s yari ashigaru gives the player a colossal advantage for the entire campaign and especially in the early game. The better yari stats make early game battles a cakewalk and the reduced upkeep allows for greater economic investment and technology. Many think Shimazu is the easiest. Clan Shimazu begins poor and is immediately declared war on by both its adjacent neighbors. The player has to invest in the port right away to start pumping out ships to capture the trade posts before the AI takes them. These posts inevitably get attacked by pirates and other enemy factions which means paying for a navy. Since yari spear wall, and general yari spam, is the easiest way to beat Shogun 2 on legendary, I would objectively place the Oda as the easiest legendary campaign. The hardest aspect of the Oda’s campaign is its positioning for Realm Divide. Preparing for RD from Kyushu is a big advantage for the Shimazu, Otomo and nearby clans.

Ye. But still, quite a lot people would still just play the game like for fun and doing things they probably shouldn't do in the campaign etc... And not actually taking it seriously. Like me who just play the game and is not taking enough care about the campaign, and FOS campaign or Avatar Conquest.

Oda clan is too strong

I still play the game to this day. While i grew tired of the "vanilla experience", the workshop offer some mods that makes many factions interesting and standing out even more (i vividly suggest the "Rise" mod series, even if it covers only the Takeda, Uesugi and Oda clans. Other than that, the "unique Christian units" allows you to basically start a crusade.)
