Updates 2024 ============ A small update to the guide, Onion OS has updated to have 4.3.0 as the main stable version. Downloading this or any future version above 4.3.0 will work fine and have Drastic. The update process is the same, you just download the zipped file, unzip it, and then copy all the contents over to your microSD card and overwrite any files with the same names. You do not have to reformat your microSD card or image it and you will not lose any save files or save states. If this is your first install of Onion OS, then you do need to format your microSD card to FAT32 (not exFAT). Windows may not allow you to do this so you need to use a tool like Rufus or GUIFormat. If you are using the stock microSD card or you are worried about losing files, I would back up any save files. The updating process for the Miyoo Mini and Miyoo Mini Plus with Onion OS is much simpler than other handhelds. ============= Edit 04-08-2024 ============= You may need to update your firmware before updating or installing Onion OS. To check your firmware version, go to Settings -> About Device if you have Onion OS or Settings -> Device Info if you have stock OS. If you have Onion OS, the entry labeled "Firmware version" should be 202306282128 for the Miyoo Mini Plus, 0612 for the Miyoo Mini V2 and V3, and 1027 for the Miyoo Mini V4. If you have stock OS, the entry labeled "Version" should be 202306282128 for the Miyoo Mini Plus, 0612 for the Miyoo Mini V2 and V3, and 1027 for the Miyoo Mini V4. The firmware is available at the lomiyoo site. It will give you a browser warning since the security certificate expired. I used it with no incident but I did not do a security analysis on the site so I cannot vouch for it. If you want to be extra safe you can delete all your session tokens before accessing the site. Once you download the firmware update, it should be a single img file. Copy the img file to the root of your microSD card and insert the microSD card back into your Miyoo. With the power turned off, insert a charging cable and it should turn on and update the firmware.

I forgot to mention one thing. Once you add your games and if they don't show up, press Select on the NDS icon and you can refresh your roms list. This should fix the problem.

If the performance could just be a bit more better then I would actually use it for DS. Hopefully the developer can keep improving the emulator performance in the future, really hoping it could run at 100% speed without frameskip,

I tried it out on my Miyoo, I can't seem to figure it out as well. Tried looking it up online and no leads yet. I'll report back if I find a solution but the problem may be fixed in an updated version of Onion OS.

Ace Attorney is playable on this form factor 😮 Dumping my AA roms on my RG35XX+. Brb😂

🤣It won't be the best way to play but you can definitely beat it. The RG35XX+ is nice dude! The extra horse power should help for DS emulation.

no problem with performance of any snes game?

Most SNES games will run fine. Some roms like Yoshi's Island may stress emulators but it seems to run fine the Miyoo Mini Plus.

will updating to onion 4.3 lose any progress on games that I'm playing on 4.2.3?

You should not but if you want to be safe I would back up your save files, save states, and config files.

Is the graphics the same as original DS? or can you set the resolution to 2x, 3x etc.

The graphics look pretty close but there are some slowdowns. I recommend leaving frame skip on to automatic. You can set many resolutions for both screens, here's a list of resolutions I saw available for Drastic: 640x480 (full screen) 512x384 (integer 2x) 427x320 (rotated 90 degrees) 384x288 (1.5x), 256x192 (original) 480x360, 160x120 320x240 (1.25x) 256x192 (original) 640x480 (full screen), 256x192 (original) overlay 640x480 (full screen), 170x128 overlay The overlay is in the upper right corner and is semi transparent but still blocks some of the image. The full screen or integer 2x only shows one screen at a time and requires you to switch screens with R2. The rest are side by side or on top of each other or with one screen smaller on the lower right hand corner.

does this also work with the small version?

Yeah it should! The only difference is you can only overclock to around 1600 max instead of around 1800 max on the plus.

Hey wassup, hope I can help you with your issues but I need a bit more info. MMP & OTA ========== Do you have the regular Mini or the Plus. If you have the Plus did you use WiFi with OTA updates? OTA may be buggy for some so I'd recommend downloading and extracting the update using a PC or phone. Firmware ======== If you have the regular Mini, I saw other people having a similar issue as yours because they needed to update the firmware. If the firmware is not updated, it may cause issues. = Edit 04-08-24 (Corrected firmware info): = You may need to update your firmware before updating or installing Onion OS. To check your firmware version, go to Settings -> About Device if you have Onion OS or Settings -> Device Info if you have stock OS. If you have Onion OS, the entry labeled "Firmware version" should be 202306282128 for the Miyoo Mini Plus, 0612 for the Miyoo Mini V2 and V3, and 1027 for the Miyoo Mini V4. Once you download and extract the files it should be a single img file. Just copy that to the root of your microSD card and put it back into your Miyoo Mini. Plug a charging cable into your Miyoo Mini while it is turned off and it should update the firmware and then you can try updating Onion OS again. MicroSD ======= If none of these steps work, there is a small chance that if you're using the stock card or bought one from Amazon, it may be a counterfeit card and could have some corrupted sectors. If you have access to a PC, you can use command prompt and chkdsk to check for corrupted data. Switch to the drive letter of your micro sd card. For example: D: and hit enter. Type in the command: chkdsk /r and hit enter. This make take a while depending on how large your microSD card is. If the report shows corrupted data was found and fixed, I would try reformatting and reinstalling Onion OS. Edit: Formatting means erasing all the data, I would recommend backing up your save files, save states, and any roms you want to keep. If you're using a stock card it's not necessary but I would advise buying a branded one from a reputable seller. If you need help on this let me know! That's all I can think about for now, let me know if any of these things worked out for you.

Could you explain to me in more detail on how to move the games onto DraStic? I have no idea how to do this kind of stuff

Sure no problem! If you already installed the latest version of OnionOS and Drastic, you can go into your microSD card, the Roms folder, and then the NDS folder. This is where you copy the games you acquired through some means. You can just drag and drop the files from your computer to the NDS folder on your microSD card. You can leave the roms as a zipped file because Drastic will read them just fine. If you need help finding the games, it's not legal to talk about acquiring roms on most platforms but you're only a short google search away. If you need more help please feel free to let me know and I'll try my best to clarify.

@@dylanhile358 Well you do need a microSD card to USB adapter to plug it into a computer but yeah, it's that simple! You can also transfer files wirelessly but I haven't messed around with that so I don't know the exact steps for that.

@@dylanhile358 You can use it but both the adapter and the microSD card that come with the Miyoo may eventually fail so just keep that in mind.

for anyone that owns one are the games pretty playable? like am i able to save the game and do things i would on a gamboy?

The games are playable and you can save. You also have handy features like fast forwarding to get through grindy stuff faster and multiple save states. Systems up to PS1 work very well. Some DS games will have slowdowns and audio skips. Also any DS games requiring the stylus like Trauma Center are impossible to play. I wouldn't recommend getting a Miyoo Mini Plus if your main goal is to play DS games. These devices require basic troubleshooting skills though. RetroGameCorps has a lot of guides if you ever get stuck on something. Hope that answers your question.

Stock games you won't be able to save in game. You'd have to save via save slate. If you downloaded the tiny best set go games you'll be able to

@@sburns834 aww ok ok, so if I have a save slate it would be beneficial. Is the hand held worth it without a save slate? For instance I really love playing the pokemon games and not being able to save would stink. So would this handheld be worth it to buy? your honest opinion please.

@agutie616 yes it's worth buying. I own one. You can save in game if you downloaded the tiny best set go games package. (Free) but with the stock sd card (which you shouldn't use or buy with it) you won't be able to, cause the roms are crap. Onion os has save slates. Even when saving in game you should always make a save slate to incase anything happens. 😉

it was fun for a few days after i got mine, but left me just wanting a real ds again, i refunded it and got a ds lite and a R4 card and am 10000000x happier playing ds here than on the miyoo plus. the miyoo is really awesome and with onion os but it comes a tiny but short on ds games, then again. whats better than a ds than a ds. lmao~!

Totally agree man. If I could I would get a DSi XL and a New Nintendo 3DS for DS and 3DS games.

looks like the r36s is better for ds and psp emulation.

I don't have a R36S so I can't say for sure but it does have analog sticks and a more powerful chipset so it's probably better. Imo you just can't beat an actual DS for DS games tho, no other handheld comes close.

@@duckyobrien Idk about that i own a DS, and my phone with a dimensity 810 runs it with uptextured, or scanline. hate the dpad on the DS so much, is why i emulate DS. DS is easy to emulate, 3DS not so much. DS is good in that u have two screens, so is with a 6inch phone.
