I loved how the sun would actually move through the sky, the shadows would move throughout the race, and night races would start in twilight, a nice aesthetic touch.

Worst thing about this game. No manufacturers.

@Christopher I Wolf I don't know what you mean. The Gen 4 car did have manufacturers on it yes in NASCAR 08. Not the COT. What does this have to do with their old studio having manufacturers? You mean the old cars?

same here nascar 06 was the best next to thunder 2004 nascar 09 sucked to me every time I loaded the game it froze on the screen where it said checking for saved data every single time I put the game in it froze

Play it on a 4K TV AND REALLY WATCH THE GRAPHICS EXPLODE ON THE SCREEN. OMG ITS LIKE A NEW GEN GAME. If you have an XBOX360...YOU HAVE TO GET THE U SHAPED WIRELESS HAND CONTROLLER DRIVING WHEEL. Makes the racing sooooo much easier. Bought a U SHAPED WIRELESS DRIVING WHEEL AT GAMESTOP FOR $20. SO WORTH IT IF YOU LOVE THIS GAME.

Funny thing about this game too, we were lock drafting at the plate tracks online before it was actually a thing in real life, and this game came out in 08. (2011 Daytona 500 was the first race where they locked for the whole duration).

Nascar 2011 was the BEST I still play it to this day

It's like that a arcade videogame and no like a simulator videogame in the crashes

league racing I made alot of people online on ps2 when it was 4 players only then ps3 met alot of people child hood memories for me

Best online racing of any Nascar game

My memory is racing as Marcas Ambrose at watkins glen and winning side by side

The only thing i didnt like about this game was that cars never wrecked themselves and often drove in a one after the other queue, making them so easy to pass

NASCAR 2005 chase for the cup (Xbox) is my game

Mine memory came between Career Mode and season mode NASCAR 09 I had it for PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360

for 2009, the graphics were amazing

I was at that Pocono race... it was great for being my first race

This looks way better than I remember. I bitched about this game the same day I bought it until Gamestop let me return it lol. Crazy that it looks so much better than the eutechnyx games.

Never played this game. I bought the game at a flea market for like $3, got all excited and after I bought it, I realized the CD was beyond screwed up.. It never would work... I started with NASCAR 99 on N64, then got NASCAR Thunder 2002, the handling was awful but damn, was that a great game. Then played NASCAR 07, my brother and I figured out the car setups, once that happened, the AI was no match and sadly neither was my brother, lol. Been trying to be able to play NASCAR Heat, just haven't been able to afford it. :/

I remember only being good on the hard at Richmond and Darlington strangely. I thought it was difficult not cause physics but poor a.i. The looks kept me around for longer than I thought I would. In real life at birth of the c.o.t. I also remember the drivers saying it drove like a box with wheels. It sure did in this game lo!

Making this comment today, June 10th 2018. This game is 10 years old as of this day. So many racing memories in my league on this game. Happy Birthday NASCAR 09!

This game was awesome. I remember getting blacked flagged all the time for rough driving whenever I tried to bump draft.

I like the crashes they were funny 😂

only nascar game I've ever played, had some good times in an ol' PS2. Only low point is the lack of manufacturers and not all paintjobs. Ex: the aflac was not in the game for me, only office depot and dish network

Nascar 08 was such a pain in the ass to play

I remember my childhood consisted of NASCAR '09. We had a brand new PS2, and the console ate all of the discs that we used a lot, and the disc got a whole burned in it. So I miss this now xD. Especially since I was stuck with NASCAR Thunder 2003. After.

Man I remember playing this game into the ground back in the day. Never did offline, but we had a league (NuffWorld) that used this game all the way from release until mid-2011. Won 2 championships in that league on this game. Memories.

My memory was the Bristol speedway

This and Halo 3 were the first games I ever got on the Xbox 360, they will always hold a special place in my heart!

This game and 08 were my NASCAR childhood.

i use to use the D-pad instead of analog control when holding lines

that left pulling is realistic for ovals. they use asymmetrical car setups to help the left turns, but the car pulls left on straights as a result.

I played 08, 02, 06, 04, dirt to daytona, and many more. that's what my childhood was.

I really didn't have a favorite until now, it was 05 i decided overall, but i remember playing this game on ps2, the memories i had of going up the ranks ect, having an imagination, i never played online sadly. I had this game up until earlier this year, i gave to it to my friend. So how hard is this game? Like 08? 08 on xbox was literally my worst nascar game, i hate it, i still have it but barely play it.

This was the best Nascar game ever to me. I haven't played anything since that has compared. The multi player was awesome, the way you could set a "room" and invite your friends or open up to anyone and chat before the race starts. You could kick players from the server.

Best NASCAR game to date, all others that have come after it has been a joke. High hopes for Heat especially the mutliplayer. Praying for bubble less racing and workable setups. If good all my other games going to collect dust!

Obviously many memories with you and everyone in FTRL those were the days......aka PRO BOSS un restricted plate races at Daytona.......5 lap daytona races over and over! haha

I just played nascar 08, absolutely horrible lol. The driving felt so bad. For nascar 09, that in car cam looks great

The Highline lines are supposed to be spread out and bigger and they only are in the corners in the tri oval. Don't know what the fuck they were doing when they made Daytona.

I still play this game a lot. My best memory at the game is when I did a blow over. It was fun.

09 for PS3 and 360 is arguably the best one aside from 03, 04 and 05. I wish they would have kept making them. EA was much better at it than anyone since. Heat 3, hopefully offers something of substance. HE was garbage. H2 was definitely better. But the presentation and depth of 09 was awesome. I managed to snag a fat 60GB PS3 and 09 for $95. I played it all the time back when I was in HS. So many memories.

Start a season mode on Nascar 09

This game was awesome and I used to play it until I think the servers were taken down. I can remeber having a setup that allowed me to run in the top 2 or 3 most of the race at Daytona. One time I decided to change some things and I have a car that could run the bottom. So little by little I inched my way to the front and somebody got to bump drafting me and in like ten laps we ran down the leaders, passed them and I won my first race at Daytona. Daytona was my preferred track but I ran at Michigan, Bristol, and the road tracks. The cool thing was that somebody taught me how to run at Michigan and I actually could run in the top ten with a wheel. The best I ever did at Michigan was 3rd. I sucked at Phoenix. I still can’t run at Phoenix. Talledegha wasn’t a good track for me as well. But at Talledegha, the worst wrecks ever occurred there. I saw cars go airborne into the fence and some tumbled for ever. I can’t remember wrecking upon entering pit road and and doing 360s. I never hit anything and I got black flagged. The glitching was crazy. I hated Darlington and I never could finish a race. The setups we used caused the engines to overheat. Initially I think I blew up more engines than NASCAR 09 could produce. Funny thing about that was one time in a race, the track I can’t remember, I came down pit road and I blocked all the air off like you did on qualifying and I ran down the leader. Well while I was doing that, the car apparently caught on fire and due to a glitch, I basically was burned alive while crossing the finish line. Road courses I ran without setups and did okay. Those are memories from playing NASCAR 09 all night most nights when I was on vacation. I had a ton of fun until my wheel broke. I’ve never raced sense and I doubt I ever can due to a brain thing. I I play a video game it feels like I have a concussion.

NASCAR Thunder 2004 was my favorite. Still play it to this day.

Yes memories! I remember there was a PS2 version of NASCAR 09 and a PS3 version. I would sneak into my brother's room to play the PS3 version. GTA4 was coming out around that time too.

I know I'm late watching this video but this was the last great NASCAR game. I miss this and kind of wish EA would do another game. I loved the Driver's Garage where you could share setups and stuff. Memories man, memories!

almost every track was overcast and gritty and unsaturated.. dark and gritty is a weird aesthetic for nascar lol

@RealRadman you mentioned around 9:45 about how you had to turn toward the right on the straight. Speaking from experience, turning laps around Kansas, but also watching, the banking does actually make the wheel have to turn slightly to the right. Maybe not as much as the game portrays but you do have to.

its not hard to hold the line if you barely push the controller stick over and this game always had the best cockpit out of them all

As KamikazeGames said, "This game is trash. Don't Buy It". What he forgot to mention is that it only applied to the PS2 version (Watch his review of NASCAR 09 to find out why the game is trash). However, the PS3 and Xbox versions are way better as far as gameplay and realism goes. I think that the developers just didn't care for the PS2 version of NASCAR 09 because they mainly focused on the PS3 and Xbox versions so they just copied and pasted NASCAR 08 into NASCAR 09. I mean after all, EA was starting to become an afterthought for NASCAR at that point.

I hope Nascar Heat coming out Sept 2016 has better graphics. Its sad but NASCAR 09 IS STILL THE BEST NASCAR GAME OUT TO DATE. The only bad thing is this game is hard to drive with a controller, BUT when Gamestop started selling that U Shape Hand Controller Speed Wheel for $20 IT TURNED NASCAR 09 INTO THE PERFECT CONSOLE NASCAR RACING GAME. If you dont have the U Shaped Speed Controller GO TO GAMESTOP RIGHT NOW...GO BUY IT FOR $20...Trust Me IT TURNS THIS GAME INTO A HOLE NEW LEVEL OF RACING!!!

Definitely not the best...NASCAR Thunder 2004 and 06 had much better career modes, along with actually licensing the manufacturers (something this game couldn't even manage for the CoT).

Yup....NASCAR HEAT 1&2 BOTH SUCK!!!! DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO TURN THE FLAGS OFF IN SEASON MODE IN NASCAR 09??? I KNOW FOR A FACT I COULD BEFORE. MY OLD XBOX360 BROKE. Go to Gamestop...buy the U Shaped Speed Wheel Controller for $20. Huge HUGE Difference. Driving is really easy an way more fun. But you need to get the $20 U Speed Wheel Controller for XBOX 360. Trust me.

Talladega was the track I loved. I could push one of my friends around the WHOLE track and it was a blast! I also loved Martinsville in the trucks.
