Keep in mind this guide is for Windows PC, Mac, or Linux. Not much will apply to the console versions (PS4, Switch) except for the lightsaber basics. Console versions do not support mods, custom clients, or console commands.

Jedi Academy has the best lightsaber fights hands down. Dark Forces II, Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy just get better and better. Jedi Knight saga is an amazing set of games.

Strongly disagree. Idk how old are you, but I was there at Jk 2’s release date. Played Jk 3 as well and back then the wast majority of hardcore Jk players agreed that Academy is a very big downgrade from Outcast when it comes to story and lightsaber combat. On top of that it was agreed that jko patch 1.0 is the best as the newer patches of Jk 2 made the game more similar to Academy. One interesting fact is that what made you a skillful player in Outcast was frowned upon in Academy. If you want to see the best Star Wars lightsaber conbat try Jk 2 1.0. It offers the most control over the lihhtsaber.

@roberth4395 Whoever told you Jedi Academy was a downgrade in lightsaber combat was either a veeeeeery small group of people or your imagination created by your own nostalgia. I've never heard anyone say that crap besides you.

I thoroughly enjoyed both (all 4 games, actually), but I thought JK2 was certainly the better game. In my experience Jedi Academy was simply too easy and not as much fun as Jedi Outcast. Both have their strengths.

Everyone gushes about the lightsabers, but I don't hear much about the little things. Those being: Kyle "You're Joking" Katarn's joyous glee in delivering an ass-whooping to his foes, Stormtroopers and goons alike screaming as they fall to their death, aerial foes being shot upwards as you zap them with lightning, Jawas being Jawas, and the many ways the player can approach most situations.

Graphics is not a problem at all, these games still look good when it was a good graphics back in the day. Some games are just ugly, always were ugly and always will be ugly, but it's not the case of Jedi Academy, it's just retro and it looks good. And controls and everythinging else was mostly better than in today games, it's very simple to just jump in and play it, it's not complicated like today games where you need to learn how to play it for like 10 hours before you can actually start to play, I totaly hate this about modern games, it's just getting too complicated, older games from around 2003 were simple to play, you had full control over your charecter so when you died, it was 100% your fault. In modern games when you die, it's very often fault of bad cover system or some auto climbing or something which always destroys what you want to do. I just prefer older games with no such features because it's simple and you can focus on what is really important - to play the game, not learning 5 hours how to use cover system and be scared by going around some wooden box because you don't want to accidentaly trigger a climbing script during a fight if you know what I mean. Some modern games are such a pain to play. Even my father was able to play these 20+ years old games, but there is no way that he could play today games, first - his English is not good enough for that (today games mostly don't have official translation, it's just in English only) but that's not the main reason, main reason is that games are just too complicated now. Even 11 years old kid who didn't speak English at all was able to play these games 20 years ago, you will not even start a new game in modern games without pretty good knowledge of English, which means that games are too complicated now - complicated to install, complicated to run, you need to have milion accounts to milion clients, 90% of them only in English again, constantly some problems with those clients....It was just so simple 20 years ago, you just inserted CD, typed serial key, clicked on next next next and clicked on PLAY and that was it, it was that simple, even 60 years old villager who doesn't speak English was able to do that. Today? Even I in my 31 years have sometimes problem to start some game when it's running thru some obsolete client which just doesn't work at all, you buy the game on steam and it starts another 50 clients from steam and then you have to register your game again inside of game, what the hell is that? I am probably already too old for this. 😀

I agree...also the simplicity of directional swings, only found it in Mount&Blade, Mount&Blade Warband and Mount&Blade Bannerlord games. Nowdays they develop games that in trailers and pre-release gameplay traielrs looks like you are able to customize your gameplay to your liking, your character looks and level the gear, the abilities you choose etc. But in the end you just pick one of the three variants for lets say Jedi Knight or Jedi Consular, you pick his look and gear but thats all, every Jedi Consular plays the same skills, every Knight plays the same skills, those are games like SW:TOR, those with quickbar which I start to hate cause of the rigidity of the world and rigidity of gameplay, not to even mention the horrible stories and quests... Games like Skyrim,Oblivion, Jedi Academy, Gothic 1,2 , in these games you really felt like connected to the gamestyle you have picked..if it was passive approach with stealthing and camping (not just crouching and running around map backstabbing enemies like AC:Oddysey or LOTR:Shadow of War) or you picked to be the taunt who may be killed 20 times in 10 minutes, but will probably make a lot of frags too. I agree that where the game industry went is unpleasant...

Consoles doesn't support mods so it's more alive on PC - that's for sure!

This game rocks...I wonder why they did not use this story as a hint for the plot of the new trilogy, instead of making that trash I remember when I made a character just to hunt down lamers in servers xD such fun

I disagree, I find the story of Jedi Academy much more engrossing. Also the returns to iconic Star Wars locations make my soul happy.

Crazy enough, the console ports are still alive despite the company that ported it shutting down servers. The community made their own back door to enter PC servers from the main menu lmao

Yo the people who play on and run the KR server are some stuck up tight wads. I put KR in my name and they made me take it out. I lamed people, got booted. I said a swear word, got a strike. I played as Rosh, EVERYONE started gunning for me. 😔
