Playful Huntress - Sunrise Ferreting 20

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

The young ferret Leto finds rabbit holes too exciting, but gets reminded why she’s there.
I don’t expect too much from a young ferret during its first year of working. Her true colours will show next season. A ferrets working prime will be years three and four, when experience and physical ability are balanced. I’m still using her beside Athena, the darker six year old jill, to set a good example. I'd like Brook and Leto to settle their differences before next winter as they would make a great team. If that works out, Athena will only be used occasionally, for easy warrens, for her own enjoyment, if anything. I can sense her tiring on these longer outings now.
I'm not exactly sure how the first rabbit escaped. Unfortunately no camera had a perfect angle on it. I suspect the pole slipped out of the hard ground for a moment which allowed the rabbit to slip under. This hill is extremely rocky, which makes it hard to long net effectively.

These rabbits are collected for food, for my ferrets and people. This is a free range meat, that has lived a free life. These rabbits will be controlled even without me. By taking them myself, the meat is used. Ferreting is an environmentally friendly method of rabbit control.
Rabbit control and the law ---

The video is edited in a self explanatory way for all languages to understand. People under the age of 18 also practise ferreting and I aim to set a mature example. Contact between the animals is brief and is not the focus of the video. Rabbit dispatches are not shown. No blood or gore is present.

@@ZeusPolecat yep, seems like here my favourite animals are actually losing to tiny weasel! Also one of which I am going to get myself and raise as a family member and hunting comrade-and I mean the greatest and strongest of all predators:Siberian tiger!Funny thing though:my grandad used to own such a giant striped orange comrade/assassin(for him&his family/for all kinds of wildlife in nearby forests)-called Neron, and as he started training him on rabbits and bunnies those were Neron's favourite toys and meal which just always turned him into a scaled up kitten with his favourite squeaking toys! And no other meal/prey/treat satisfied him as much as those did! Anyway interesting:will a tiger be agile enough to eliminate these squeaking bustards on property?I mean that a tiger won't certainly dig out those and might be bothered by waiting for those to come out and just refuse spending a lot of energy and time for these crappy things!Although females are somewhat more agile and definitely not that much lazy as males can eventually get even in the wild, and are quite more determined but still can just lose interest rather quickly..Especially keeping in mind that one such bustard won't be much of a meal for them-anyway a good snack but still not a good dinner! So what I am sure about is that at least a tiger will never bother digging those out:they will anyway do so to get a porquipine because for all panthera genus the porquipine meat is like a narcotic:they are always ready to get their fase and paws quilled by those because they really love their meat, more than any other kinds! And lions frequently unearth warthogs but that is quite a substantial meal while a stupid pathetic bunny is clearly not what might sustain their needs for even a day!So what do you think?

Always great to hear. I’ll use the jills in deep warrens or rocky ground like in this video. They are less likely to make a kill so I don’t need to worry as much about digging. I generally prefer jills overall. A hob is more likely to put fear in a stubborn rabbit and get it moving however.

@@morganchapman9403 Yeah the majority say no haha, but they are not rude about it. Some say it's fine by them but as it's an estate, ask the gamekeeper. Some say there's no rabbits. Only had one farmer have a go but by being polite and understanding I left peacefully. Absolutely, just go and ask around, no harm will come from it if you are polite. When ferreting people come to be nosey too and that sometimes results in new permission or tip offs on areas with rabbits.

Haha I watched the bit your talking about, I understand why you could think that. She’s just excited, ferrets get out of control with happiness at times.

I kinda feel like putting up the fence to stop the rabbit is unfair. Unless the fence is mostly there to keep the ferrets in that area.

There’s no crocodiles in Scotland. Even if there were, they wouldn’t be down rabbit holes.
