Orlando Magic offseason thoughts: The Magic need to be smartly aggressive and should consider making a big splash or 2 through trades and free agency. First, I would like to see the Magic seek out a trade for a good volume shooting and playmaking point guard/combo guard and possibly a wing player. My current list of players who are potentially on the trading block that I would be most interested in are: 1. Anfernee Simons combo guard - Blazers. 2. Mikal Bridges shooting guard/small forward - Nets 3. Trae Young point guard = Hawks 4. Darius Garland point guard - Cavs 5. Dejaunte Murray combo guard - Hawks Second, the free agents I would be most interested in are: 1. Malik Monk combo guard - Kings. 2. Gary Trent, Jr. shooting guard - Raptors. 3. Isaiah Likely combo guard - Raptors. 4. Tyus Jones point guard - Wizards. 5. Patrick Williams small forward - Bulls. 6. Kelly Oubre, Jr. small forward - 76ers. Older veterans I would consider if I landed a couple of my other top choices from above, and only then, but would still probably prefer not to sign at all, especially Klay. As a fan of the Warriors dynasty, I want to see Klay retire as a Warrior, and only a Warrior, along with Steph. I am all for adding a veteran or two, but not one in their mid to late thirties unless we have acquired a couple of other players that put us closer to winning a title. Neither of these two make us title contenders if they are the biggest fish we catch this summer and would both take up too much cap space and are on a different timeline than the Magic are currently on. Give me a veteran in their late 20s and maybe early early 30s: 1. Paul George shooting guard/small forward - Clippers. 2. Klay Thompson shooting guard - Warriors. Third, the NBA draft where the Magic have the 18th and 47th picks in the draft. With that 18th pick I believe these players will either be there or within reach by trading up a few picks are my favorite players in that window of players: 1. Jared McCain point guard - Duke. 2. Kal'el Ware center - Indiana. 3. Tyler Smith power forward - G League Ignite. 4. Carlton "Bub" Carrington combo guard - Pitt. 5. Tristan Da Silva small forward - Colorado. There are a few other players that I would be fine with taking at 18, but these five are my favorite, with the first 2 being worth a trade up to get. I didn't include Edey because I believe he will go in the top 5 when it is all said and done, but if he falls I would take him easily. I believe Jared McCain is the most criminally underrated player in this draft. If I were a betting man, I would bet he becomes the Steph Curry/Donovan Mitchell of this draft and ends up being the best player, or 1 of the 3 best players in this draft. He is the same height as Curry and is being dinged because he isn't an elite athlete, just like Curry and Haliburton, or Jokic, but skill and just knowing the game and understanding the feng shui of basketball is far more important than elite athleticism. Last season, I wasn't super high on Anthony Black, but I do like his game, especially on defense and as a playmaker and passer on offense, however, his shot was awful in college, but he did improve his shooting tremendously between the end of his college career and the beginning of his pro one. That mentality and work ethic make me really like the pick now, even though I probably would have gone with Taylor Hendricks, but am glad we got Black. Hendricks is great too, but I was worried about Jonathan Isaac ever staying healthy, but since he did and hopefully can going forward, Black was a more needed piece to the team as he is the truest point guard on the roster. Now, with that second pick of ours, pick 11, I am still disappointed we took Jett Howard, who is talented and should have a solid NBA career, but we could have done so much better with that pick. Howard, doesn't move particularly well without the ball in his hands and is more of a spot up shooter with great form and a quick trigger, but that is not as useful as someone who is able to be in constant motion like Steph and Klay all those years. Because of that I had Jett ranked about 7 -12 spots lower than we picked him last year. The top 3 players on my board when that pick came up were this: 1. Jordan Hawkins of UConn - taken 14th by the Pelicans. 2. Grady Dick of Kansas - taken 13th by the Raptors. 3. Keyonte George of Baylor - taken 16th by the Jazz. If I knew what I know now, my top 2 would look like this: 1. Jordan Hawkins 2. Keyonte George Hawkins is exactly who I thought he was, a young Klay Thompson in the body of a young Kerry Kittles. But his game is so similar to Klay's. Quick release done at the high point while at the top of the jump and being able to square up easily. He is always moving without the ball in his hands. He can also attack the basket and is a good defender. Gonna have a long highly productive career sans injury. George is who I thought he was but far better as a playmaker and passer than I thought, being able to play as a volume shooting tall point guard instead of a ball dominant average height shooting guard. Grady Dick was good still, but not on the same level as those other two, however I still like him more than Jett, though the gap between those two isn't as big as the one between Jett and Hawkins or George. Finally, I was not a fan of just giving away our second round pick last year and forgoing using it. The reason why? SF/PF GG Jackson, PF/C Trayce Jackson-Davis. Both these players were selected after the pick we gave away. Davis looks like a good rotational big man and GG looks like a high-value starter and possibly a star. I liked him better than Jett Howard as well. Just to think, we could have had Anthony Black, Jordan Hawkins, and GG Jackson in last year's draft. That would have been a home run of a draft. I'm all for using second round picks as part of larger trades involving moving up in the draft or acquiring veteran talent, but am not a fan of just deciding "we don't want to use it this year." Just imagine if Denver had thought that the year they selected Nikola Jokic in the second round. They had already drafted 2 good players in the first round that year - SG Gary Harris and C Jusuf Nurkic - they could have been satisfied too. I have never been a fan of just giving away assets. Has never made sense to me. Let's say, if we use the 47th pick to somehow move up 3 or 4 spots in this year's draft and select Jared McCain or as part of a trade package for Simons or Bridges, then we are using that resource well, just trading an early second round pick away at the last moment for a future, and most likely worse, draft pick, is silly, especially considering GG was still on the board at the time.

there simply are no slam dunk big fish free agents this year for the Magic, we can augment our roster through free agency, but will need a trade to make that big leap. Only aggressive teams during the offseason have won titles the past few years.

Klay Thompson on a short term deal is the only one that makes sense to me, unless you have a chance at Paul George but everyone else would just stunt the growth of young guys they already have, with Klay on a short term deal he brings championship experience to a young team and hopefully the shooting thst team really needs, maybe you get a better year defensively than he had last year too, with Ingles and Fultz gone let Anthony Black and Houstan pickup those minutes, possibly Jett and Da Silva as well, right now I’m worrying about the long term of Issac if he stays healthy another year he might not want to stay in that bench role

@@RnBLegacies good point but I don’t think we need that. If we get above average point guard play that’s gonna bring up to another level. If Fultz had that 3 we wouldn’t even be concerned. But 18 ppg and above leave average from 3 is an amazing upgrade

I say we bring in sexton. Bring in Held and sign D12/ Superman as a vet minimum. And those are the only real pieces we need. Let everyone walk beside MO. We have lots of depth with the new rookies. Idk if Isaac is a free agent but bring him back also. We will play defensive basketball and then they will have to stop us offensively from us shooting the ball. And getting all rebounds.

ITS ABOUT TIME ORLANDO STOPS BEING CHEAP AND SPEND THE DAM MONEY TO GET SUPERSTAR TO HELP US WIN OUR 1ST CHAMPIONSHIP. ITS SICKNING TO KNOW WE LET SO MUCH GREAT TALENT JUST WALK OUT THE DOOR OR WE TRADED THEM BECAUSE THIS FRANCHISE DIDNT WANT TO GO ALL IN TO GET A CHIP. THE DEVOS JUST WANTED THERE POCKETS FILLED WITH MONEY. HOPE THEY DONT MAKE BANCHERO AND WAGNER LEAVE JU78ST LIKE SHAQ AND DW12 BECAUSE U DONT WANT TO GET THEM REAL SUPERSTAR INSTEAD OF PLAYERS THAT ARE PAST THERE PRIME OR PLAYERS BELOW AVG.

Jett Howard is a sharpshooter Orlando kept up their sleeve... WCJ.. Love the dude but he's not going to make us a contender. We need a real big that isn't in love with shooting 3's. Malik Monk was a realistic move for Orlando but he just committed back to SacTown Trae Young isn't coming to Orlando.. If you don't play defense Moseley doesn't want you.. For once in a really long time.. Orlando can be picky with the cap and the future being as bright as it is already.
