Whats wrong with Mascherano playing as a CB? He have played almost 350 match for Barcelona, only an elite can do it in a club like Barcelona. He won everything possible, he even won player of the year of Barcelona while Messi ware playing.If a midcore CB can win player of the Year at Barcelona ovar prime Messi plus Suarez, Neymar, Iniesta,Busi, Pique then thanks to him who turned Mascherano a CB.

I never liked Mascherano being put at CB. Ok I understand that Barca have Busquets but Mascherano played CDM at Liverpool alongside Xabi Alonso and he played well. Barca like to have homegrown players in their team. The likes of Valdes, Puyol, Pique (after he left Man Utd) Busquets, Iniesta, Xavi and Messi have all played well.

Mata belonged in Chelsea, it’s such a shame he left he could have been a club legend.

Pep ruined mascherano....pats had a mare. He was awesome at cb and cud being the ball out and use his passing. His passing wasn't wasted there at all. Hence everyone now wants a ball playing cb. Like he was. Also to say "although he won 5 titles and 2 champions league" as if that's just something ppl do sometimes by accident.

To claim Mascherano was 'ruined' by Guardiola by being played at CB seems rather over the top don't you think? I agree that it was a shame to see him not playing in his favoured DM role - he was brilliant there for Liverpool in that midfield with Gerrard and Alonso - but he shouldn't really be on this list. Played too many games and won too much for that. I'd throw Djibril Cisse in there. I think he was under-utilised by Benitez and should've started up front for Liverpool far more often than he did. He was wasted on the right. I'm surprised Joe Cole didn't make an appearance here too. Same goes with Sanchez. Hell, you should do a Top 10 players ruined by Jose Mourinho!

James W: Yeah Cisse did get wasted at Liverpool on the right instead of playing up front. The problem was though Gerard Houllier signed Cisse but got sacked at the end of the season, Benitez wasted Cisse on the right and he got injured, then Benitez signed Morientes who didn't play well for Liverpool.

This is what it dislike about this video. Players succeeding or failing under a given manager is a two way street like with any relationship (think marriage for example). To blame Ranieri completely for Bogarde's lamentable willingness to suck money out of the club - especially given what Claudio went on to achieve - is probably completely wrong...and at worst, clearly only partly his fault.

You must have been living in a parallel universe man. Mascherano's best years were at Barcelona, where he started playing as a center back. Before that he was a defensive midfielder. Pep put him as a center back because of the way Barcelona played.
