Puerto Plata is officially known as San Felipe de Puerto Plata. The city is located at the top of the land that rises directly from the sea. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and the hill Isabel de Torres. Puerto Plata has a tropical climate with hot, somewhat wet summers and warm, very wet winters. Winter temperatures range from 90F - 95F (32.5C - 35C) and summer temperatures are 98F - 104F (36.7C - 40C).
