jason x you missed my point. its not their lost. 3-6 and hcp made it big while fly was underground. but that dude saying he hope fly aint holding a grudge is pointless. im saying it wouldnt matter because dj paul and juicy j accomplished way too much to be worried about playa fly even if he was holding a grudge. he was with them for a bit, it didnt work outhe felt salty about it made a diss track and that was that.they dont need to fuck with each other. i wish for a new slanging rocks with fly,pat and boo but that aint gona happen.

When I was like 16 I saw Memphis Underground documentary..DJ Squeeky, Al Kapone, Fly, Blac, Pretty Tony, already knew of 8ball/MJG of course and some of the others (Lil Fly, GB, Skinny) from 3 6 tapes...but it changed my life...been a fan everysince.

JUST MY OPINION: This dude is the G.O.A.T. rapper out of Memphis 10. I don't care how crazy this sounds. I always have said Playa Fly is the down south version of Rakim. This dude had no weaknesses in his style. He has alot of booksmart vocabulary mixed in street slane skills that gives himself the strength to rarely use profanity in his verses. If you compare Rakims very best songs to Playa Fly's very best songs. His resume will go head up with Rakim, if not a little better in songs here and there because Fly is more of a lyricist than a rapper to me.

I just recently got familiar with his music his lyrical content is bananas! Dude style off the chain. Do yal think his production on his older stuff kept him from blowing? My personal opinion is the production and the lyrics together made it raw, but your typical hip head now days are enamored with certain types of "beats".

First time I ever heard FLY was ''Funkytown In My Brain''. I was blown away. Like wtf is this shit??? Straight trance music. So I'm like 17 at the time. Went to the store and found FLY SHIT, MOVIN ON, JUST GETTIN IT ON. A year later, DA GAME OWE ME!! This man's catalog was filled with gems that made me go and research shit on my own. I won't say he's underrated because the All Seeing works how it works. Fly's message is still around, still relevant. He just needs to up that original catalog!

What alotta people don't realize is that Playa Fly really is a conscious fella. He might not be an organized Hotep or any of the other big-known groups of conscious categories; but he had always been an avid thinker and articulate communicator, who so happened to be from the middle of South Memphis (South Parkway Village). Too, his father who he actually knew was old school, and was familiar with the Civil Rights, Black Panthers, and Distinguised Gentleman era. Unlike some other city rappers who may not have had or known their fathers to make them read or enforce knowledge upon them. That's why out of all of the bumpin and buckin rappers that Menphis produced, Fly was considered the king or underground king because of the level of his hood raps. Not that he was the most talented or the one that was out on the scene the most; but because he was raising consciousness of his listeners in his own way. At that time, all of Memphis's rappers were only on hood things only, while other cities were having their selects of conscious-oriented rappers. Fly had a graduation gown on one of his album covers with a library bookshelf in the background; whereas other rappers were holding glocks, teks, or had evilish skull and bones, and chuckie dolls😂😂😂 on their covers. My generation of guys who were in the 4th to 9th grades around 1997 to 2000 realized that level of Memphis rap was needed, because everything else was so sinister and damn near demonic. Miscellaneous is a Memphis rapper from the South part not far away, who was almost similar to Fly in being a conscious rapper, Kavious too!👍 But see the problem is them guys and anyone else got to stay at those levels, rise higher, and don't stop, whether they are in demand or not....

It was cool to hear him say "I sat with the beat for a year before I wrote a verse on it". That's really dope. When think of art, it's timeless. You don't have to worry if it is old or dated or stale... It can't be. If that were the case Rembrandt or Picasso art would be worthless. Young artists if you have music you recorded during a certain period of life but you never released, release it. It'll be fresh to somebody else. They've never heard of it.

I had the privilege of interviewing Fly back in i believe 2010 for the Southern Underground Rap Magazine & Forum. Funny thing is I just stumbled across a transcript of it this past week. Being a fan of his music, that interview symbolized all of his music, his joy, pain..Although, he kind of lashed out , I believe it was therapeutic in some ways and I was happy to be a part of it. Some of his music has definitely been thought-provoking, socially conscious, and spiritual from a person that was raised by two different religious sects under one roof. Da Game Owes Me serves as a soundtrack to the life of a Motherless Child with anger in search of peace.

Fly, thanks for the love show your true fans. its rare that an artist does that to ppl that supports their product, and dnt just shout em out on interviews. but, actuall reach out 2em' rns. we are soo much alike. in our music/family history. lotta niggaz stole frm me as well. even mfs n the industry.. cuz i know they heard the music. me and my Grove Street/Hitsquad taliban niggaz put out. its cool tho. i get betta wit tyme. love u for staying real. staying humble. your wisdom. love for GOD, etc. the most underrated artist frm the south. real niggaz know yo history tho.

Fly is one of the best lyrical artists EVER. You can think the song is over and he'll hit you with 2 more verses. I hate things didn't work out with 3-6 and he didn't get national. Straight MONSTER with the lyrics.

I was a teenager growing up in North Memphis (Munford) during the 1990s. Pretty wild time to be in the M town. Somewhere I remember getting Fly's tape 'Out the darkness' and listening to it over and over and over. Thankfully I made a copy before I lent out the original with the white sticker. I never got that one back. Compared to all the other artists out around that time, Fly always imo had the sickest flow and the most natural style. I'll forever have a deep reverence for Fly and his musical contributions. I hope the man's doing well and staying healthy. Memphis Ten Legend!! Big respect from San Francisco..
