Rewatching the Directs in order and man it rly is wild to me how solid the 2014 and 2015 were. If 2013 wasn't such a meh year for WiiU maybe the course could have been corrected in a meaningful way... Sure it would have never sold well enough to not be failure by almost all metrics, but there would have been a little more gas in that tank lol

What? That game already existed!

The pinnacle of Nintendo Directs. They perfected the formula during this era. Both the Japanese and American President, Iwata and Reggie, were very charismatic and lovable. This presentation was creative, hilarious, fun, and had so much personality. The was the same year they announced their event with Fils-a-MECH! While Nintendo games are better than ever, their directs are nothing like the used to be... when they even HAVE them

Two years late, but DAMN you're right. They were shiny and new back then, but now the formula has been perfected, and there's no need to go out on a limb and try silly skits like they used to, especially now that the charisma is gone... It's true that this era of Nintendo had some massive issues, but I can't help but feel we took the soul it had for granted.

2014 : "Zelda Wii U, coming 2015." 2017 : Well, it took you long enough.

Nintendo won E3... without being in E3? Hmmm... You know they're a lot more ferocious with their hype tactics than I thought.

You see, this is why you come into E3 with your expectations held low. Then you're not as overly disappointed when the presentation over. I came into this presentation really only wanting to see Yarn Yoshi. I got that. And plus, if you had all kept up with Nintendo's announcements, you would've known that this is not all Nintendo plans to show. They plan to show more throughout all of E3 with their Treehouse events. So please, before you say this was "disappointing," wait until Nintendo fully unveils everything.

Yeah. Right after Iwata passed Nintendo started going crazy with copyright. All of these fangame cancellations and no virtual consoles came after July 2015. I'm glad I have a Wii U, but even that will no longer have an Eshop. I just want things to go back to how they were in 2014, copyright wise. I can understand taking down roms but not fangames.

So fun to go back and watch this in 2022. Splatoon comes off as a fun little side project that a few employees were passionate about. Today, Splatoon 3 is the fastest selling game of all time in Japan.

I love how the animators of Robot Chicken helped out on this, it'd be cool if they made shorts for Nintendo on Nintendo video. .

The most iconic E3 of all time.

This was honestly a great event. Now in the Switch era, but I love the Wii U. Especially games such as Smash. Switch is amazing but the Wii U. So incredibly underrated since it was an absolutely amazing console

For those people who think the person in the Zelda WiiU tailer is not Link because he doesnt have a green tunic, Wind Waker Link started off without a green tunic

Shigeru Miyamoto literally just announced and is demonstrating TWO new IPs and he confirmed a Starfox for Wii U. See, this is why we WAIT and see EVERYTHING that Nintendo has to announce before we assume that everything seen in this presentation is all that they have to show.

Going back to watching the Splatoon reveal during the E3 presentation always makes me feel like Nintendo's newest IP franchise has come a long way after nearly seven years leading up to the fact that Splatoon 3 is already happening next year. I am so proud of them =>

And to think I wasn't sure about getting Splatoon at the time. Oh boy, over 400 gameplay hs and counting!

For god sake Nintendo i don't want to buy a WII-U stop making me want one

This Nintendo direct is so nostalgic, IMHO...

Nintendo really tried to save the Wii U. They REALLY did! But, It was no use.

Forget Super Smash, Pokemon or even the StarFox Tease The biggest shock was that.... Link talked!

the first 2 minutes are ICONIC

Watching this in anticipation for E3 2016 next week. This was one of the best E3 shows by Nintendo. It had everything: It had Smash Bros, it had actual good spin off games like Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, it had Pokémon, it had ZELDA and it had Splatoon wich is now one of my fave games of the last decade. Knowing that Nintendo will show only Zelda this year and no actual game reveals makes me a bit down but still looking forward to next week's show. Pretty sure Zelda is going to be mindblowing.

The Reggie Vs. Iwata fight WAS EPIC THO!!! (Dragon Ball Z STYLE!!!) :D

I completely didn’t keep up with new games when I was younger. Wish I could have seen this when botw was announced. That Guardian is so fast.

Jesus christ if this years e3 isn't in the same style of presentation I'll be deeply disappointed

It was the same style, but none of the grace. It left Nintendo with a funny face.

I dont even own a Wii U (yet), and Nintendo definitely won E3, in my opinion, They knocked it out of the park. They had interesting game developer stories, funny animation and dialogue, among other things. Most of the games they announced were Wii U only - and that makes it even better. Ive never watched a video game press conference where I had at least some interest of purchasing and playing every game announced except for this one. Im pumped for the future of the Wii U, to be honest.

I'm returning to this one after watching the 2021 E3 Nintendo Direct. Wow we never knew when we really had it good with directs 😢

This is Nintendo's best E3 (at least in the modern era of post Wii etc) - the only way they can top this is if they announce more than 4 major first party games in a direct, which they never do these days because they can just do third party filler like Life Is Strange or Rabbids which were already announced by others + people are content with one major game every direct these days

@@whardy0410 Yeah, to be fair Nintendo were pretty desperate in 2014. Wii U sales were poor and the Wii U was officially declared a commercial failure in 2015. That's why the 2014 direct was so good, they had to go all guns blazing and they did deliver, but it was too late. The Switch is too successful now for Nintendo to be developing several 1st party games again. If the Switch wasn't selling well they'd probably have announced Mario Kart 9 or another 3D Mario at this point. I'm still surprised it's been 7 years since Mario Kart 8. Longest drought in the MK series but that's what happens when your console is selling, you don't need new software...

@@coldstolen8666 That makes sense. I think also with 2014 Nintendo Direct, expectations were so low, and morale around Nintendo fanbases was drained, the direct was able to become a success.

ah the good old days :) i love the switch era in terms of the games and the system itself don't get me wrong but I do miss this era. reggie and iwata were just so fun and the fanbase wasn't as bratty. also, this presentation was LEGENDARY!

I honestly feelike 2014 was a very underrated year... many people seem to detest it

Why are all these sony/Microsoft fanboys watching this just to complain?

Dammit, I'm not gonna have any money left after Nintendo's through with me.

I'll have plenty of money left over if they don't put Wolf into Smash Bros. 4...if not as a separate character, then at least as a reskinned/revoiced alternate costume of Fox.

Amazing to look back and see what a pivotal Direct this was for Nintendo eight years later. - Announcement of Mii Fighters in Smash & amiibo - Yoshi's Wooly World setting the bar for Yoshi graphics styles of the future - Captain Toad, setting a precedent for Nintendo spinoffs of Mario titles like Bowser's Revenge - First footage of the groundbreaking Breath of the Wild - Bayonetta 2 and the port of Bayo 1 with added extras - Hyrule Warriors which is still going to this day - First look at Xenoblade, still going to this day - First look at Mario Maker, still going STRONG to this day - First mention of Splatoon, still going VERY strong to this day. - And the cinematic trailer for Palutena in Smash, helping usher in the incredible Smash trailers that followed.
