    Looking up anything and everything for an old Jayco that I've inherited that is in some need of repair. Being handicapped, mostly numb from torso to knees and in a wheelchair, but still able to transfer around quite well, all of these tips were fantastic! Still wanting to continue camping, but having these bits of knowledge to make things easier is priceless! Thank you!

    I know this was recorded a while ago, ut thus is one of the best set up & pack down videos I've watched... even better than the 'hand over' video from the dealer... I've a question, when I put the top up... it takes a few resolutions before it grabs and the roof moves, is that normal?

    Great video. As a Jayco Swan Outback owner myself, I always enjoy watching your videos for the tips. I've considered the bed fly conversion, but I've been in some very windy conditions and concerned that the flys will blow off the poles. Have you ever had this happen? Also, with the legs, I wind them up completely to the stopper to avoid the possibility of them self unwinding and ever getting near the ground if the locking pins somehow dislodged. This is very unlikely though. I'm looking forward to your review of the Klevacool fan mod, as I've considered this myself. Great work - keep the vids coming. Really missing getting the Swan out during these lockdowns.

    Our first camp with the mod was in Forster with one of the very strong and gusty July changes. It was a tad alarming but it held together fine. I will be getting some tarp buddies to keep on hand just in case for those really strong winds. With the beds out not too much air can get under which does help. I find the greatest moment when it will blow around is during setup and setdown. Good point regarding the legs - to be honest it is very unlikely to be an issue either way however I know its been discussed quite a bit and often observe them around the other way so thought it was worth a mention. Thanks for watching!

I reallly struggled putting up & then rolling away tight enough to get into bag & zip up!! 😫 The stabilising legs, should they be straight when van set up? My were on an angle & van was move around if you walked heavily inside! I will be watching all you videos, thanks again. Naomi

    With the bed flies its important to also try and roll up as straight as you can. With the legs they should be straight up and down however if you are on a tricky site you can put on an angle if need be. As per Charlie's response here its important not to use these to take the load off the wheels - they are intended to simply stablise the van.

    Very late response sorry. Just catching up after being away. With the Pajero's there is a wheel lift kit you by which raises the spare wheel up. Its a genuine accessory or there are many versions available on ebay that do the same for around $60 It makes a big difference as its frustrating not being able to open the door. I am running 100mm pipe. I actually bought a 150mm Campsmart pole holder initially however I wouldn't fit with the standard jerry can holder. The 100mm I find slides perfectly under the front boot area. I do use standard pole carrier brackets to secure onto the draw bar. These you can find through most online caravan parts stores or I actually found at Jayco Newcastle who are just down the road from us.

    Hi Rob - it was actually on our van when we bought it but its a Fiamma security handle. Interestingly we just discovered the security function over the past few days after a few also asked. Below is a link however you essentially lock the handle down the other way around and it also secures the door which is very neat! Thanks! The bags are from ALDI so you often have to wait until they pop up on special. I believe the Reject Shop has very similar and I have also noticed the 4wd Supacentre have Kings versions which look like they might work. I have been meaning to get one to try. The ALDI ones are 400mm x 290mm and 180mm high. The Kings one are slightly smaller but would work. In fact they would be perfect in an Eagle I am thinking that has the slightly narrower robe. www.4wdsupacentre.com.au/products/canvas-bags/clear-top-canvas-bag-combo-deals/adventure-kings-clear-top-canvas-bag.html

    What size are your stabilisers

  • @charlie.aka.gillette
    @charlie.aka.gillette2 жыл бұрын

    The bed support poles should go into place before going indside the van. They stablise the beds. The hockey stick is much easier to put into place if you have put the bed supports in place first. The beds are on a slight downslope, which pulls the canvas tighter making it harder to get the hockey stick in place. Also do not pull the canvas all the way under the bed, again makes it easier to get the hockey stick in place. I don't use the fly mod and can put the fly in place with the roof in the lowest position and I don't need a step ladder or someone to assist. There is also no trouble with the fly blowing off as the guy ropes hold it down. Just a note the support legs are not designed to take the weight of the van for leveling purposes they are just to keep it stable. It is much easier to get it level before setting upIt just means you take a bit of time to make sure that the level on the drawbar level has been attached to it matches with the floor of the van.

    Some great information in your response. Totally agree regarding the stablisers hence I noted our levelling sequence. They are not desgned to take the full load of the van. The hockey stick solution we presented I was skeptical on at first when it was first suggested by a few years ago but have been using for a while now. Logically it shouldn't make it easier but it does appear to do that. The bed fly I kept separate as some people like, some don't. We personally love it as it keeps the setup compact with no ropes and pegs which was the intention swapping over from a soft floor but that's just us. I must admit it's a very popular modification.

    @@WorkLivePlay I have always used the method shown by our dealer, which was to put the bed suports in, hook the canvas over each corner, but do not pull it all the way down, this leaves the canvas in place, but quite slack, this make putting the hockey stick in place easy as the tight spot is where the support hoop over centres. You then go back outside and pull the canvas into place and velcro. Great video though.

    This is the same process for the swift outback . However, as a senior in extreme high heat situations in NT I’m focused on a rapid setup to avoid major heat issues.I don’t use the bed flys- too many poles!- what benefits does it provide? Don’t use the awning often either unless I’m camped for more than a night . Planning on using my van for the big lap but wondering if a rooftop tent is going to be an easier option with multiple setup and takedowns . Already had problems with the windup mechanism which is an area of concern for a lap too.

    You don't have to use the flys. It's a setup video so I included as it's a part of the camper that a lot use. We actually use ours quite a lot due to camping in the rain quite a bit. They do cool the bed ends down by providing an air gap in the heat as well. However if you are setting up and packing down daily you would try to keep it simple and not use them. Regarding the rooftop tent option. I've been testing one out and while I was concerned with having more exposed canvas I absolutely love it. It's Soo quick and simple - perfect for daily setups when travelling. I would certainly look into it. Combined with a 270 degree awning and you would have a very quick, useful combo.

    @@WorkLivePlay thanks for your advice . The comfort the swift provides and fridge etc is great for long weekends away or a week somewhere.I tried the roof top for a night and is very quick and easy . I guess In the end it’s horses for courses. With time at a premium these days need to be spending more time camping and having fun and less time with setup.

    It is rare we ever pack-up in the dry. My advice is to towel down what you can and just pack it down as quick as possible. Leaving the flies up helps immensely. The last few trips the sun has been out on our return home so we setup and clean out and by the end of the day with a breeze its usually fairly dry. We are fortunate enough to have a shed we then move it into and can leave setup. I can't however wind the awning out so its my main priority to get dry before its stored.

    Hi Craig, they are Fiamma (A Frame CARRY BIKE CARAVAN XL A) racks. Incredibly light and very easy to install. I actually bought a second hand set the other day and may do an install video onto the Coromal van we still have to better show how they work. Great Video, except that the reason we (Wife & I) watched it is to learn how to release the winding ratchet mechanism so that we can lower the roof. This is the only bit you didn't mention, so thanks for wasting 37 minutes of our time.
