A two-part screen story about leadership, competition, the desire to be first and sea adventures. The feature television film, released in 1985, was staged by Ukrainian director Nikolai Zaseev-Rudenko at the Kyiv Film Studio named after Alexander Dovzhenko. The basis for the film was the story of the same name by Vladimir Tyurin.
Back in 1942, a Soviet submarine under the command of Captain 3rd Rank Filipp Ivanovich Loginov sneaked undetected into Bagryanaya Bay, which was captured by the enemy. Having sunk a Nazi transport with a displacement of about 6,000 tons with torpedoes, the submarine and its crew perished.
More than forty years have passed since those times. The naval command is conducting exercises in the area where the submarine was sunk. The submarine commander Nikolai Loginov, the son of a heroically deceased submariner father, as well as the anti-submarine ship commander Sergei Zolotnitsky, his friend, were given the following tasks: to become conditional opponents, if possible not to allow themselves to be detected, to find the enemy and conditionally destroy him.
During an exercise, Zolotnitsky gets caught in fishing nets and becomes an easy target. Not wanting an easy victory, Loginov does not “destroy” the enemy from an advantageous position. As soon as the commander of the anti-submarine ship manages to detect the submarine, he “sinks” the target.
At the meeting, the exercise commander, taking into account everything that happened, decides to repeat the exercise. During repeated exercises, Loginov acts in the same way as his father, who died during World War II, and wins them.
