@@D4rkenedskies I can't tell if you're serious or not but to give you the benefit of the doubt: The OP you were replying to said platinum is a good investment as long as you don't tell anyone you have it. What they were implying was that unscrupulous people with knowledge of your stored wealth will come to your home and rob you of it. Basically they are saying: it's safe as long as nobody knows you have it. Think Ron Swanson from Parks and Recreation...

We can mine asteroids for Platinum, If the access to space is cheap. If the price of Platinum drops, then every car can have catalytic converters, and the pollution level will drop.

Achal H P Nice idea, but the cost of launching just one rocket _without_ a payload is so high that there would have to be a major leap in rocket science before mining asteroids would be able to break even. Not to mention that the majority of asteroids are in the main belt between Mars and Jupiter, and we're having arguments about the safest way to get astronauts to Mars! I'm all for the idea, it's just currently impractical. The first thing we should do is get helium 3 from the moon. It's replaced by surface materials interacting with solar particles IIRC. It's supposed to be clean energy (barring the whole rocket launches and re-entries) and constantly renewable. Should they ever build a moon base they will have a "free" source of energy at their feet!

Still, platinum is, and it will continue to be expensive af for some time so catching a deal like with that asteroid would payoff lifetimes. And also, maybe it isnt crucial to be able to send big payloads up there. Im thinking about solar sails controlling asteroid spin/size bringing it down to geosynchronous orbit and then just chipping at and throwing shit down.

Maybe some kind of filter or some kind of pipe to the exhaust to catch the Platinum dust and smaller particles of it so won't scatter all over the road but collected in a trap box or something similar to a dirt traps in a swimming pool to collect dirt bugs leaves etc for you to empty it out and place back. Maybe that way the owner of the car can take the trap put a new one on take the old one somewhere they can flush out the trash and Platinum stays put to collect, kind of what people do when they go to a river or stream and pan of gold since gold is dense they wash away everything else and at the end gold is left in the bottom of the pan. So maybe they can come up with a trick to help collect the metal from the traps that could be on the exhaust if they did come up a way to keep it from scattering all over the road over time.

For me personally I like gold the best out of all the precious metals. And I believe it’s the most precious amongst them all because even though platinum is more rare on the surface, experts says it’s slightly more abundant in the earth then gold is, meaning one day far away the rarity between the two could change. Also gold is the least reactive metal there is, outside of laboratory conditions it will never corrode the slightest bit on you, it is the most nobel metal. And besides all of that it’s has a rare and very beautiful color for a metal, lots of silvery colored metals and only a couple gold colored metals. And it’s not that the color is just rare for metals but anything in general. You don’t really see that color anywhere else naturally. It’s not just a yellow metal. Pure 24k gold is a mix of a orangish yellow color that is stunning. Compared to how much we have of common metals like iron, aluminum etc, gold is pretty rare, they estimate the total amount ever mined could fit in two-three Olympic swimming pools. Gold also has many industrial uses and needs. It’s used in important electrical connectors in electronics for its non corroding properties, it’s used in medicine, and in aerospace equipment for its ability to reflect infrared light very well and it’s used in space suit helmets and other things

So 10x more valuable than gold. Maybe instead of insulting people you can actually do some research and learn something? Though with an attitude like that, it seems like asking you to do research is a very tall order.

how do u measure the percent of weight of platinum n that gold that 8.5% thing

  • @calangel

I wouldn't call it the most precious... Gold is more costly than platinum, had been historically until pre recently, and currently is. Also, when we look at the galvanic scale, platinum yields to gold. In some sources, Platinum is slightly more common in the earth than gold... we've just been mining gold for so much longer so we have more of it. Also, Platinum is known to be far more plentiful in space than on Earth.

At today's price of $871/oz, Platinum has fallen from its throne. The current value of Gold is $1870/oz, and it is not even the most valuable precious metal. At $2366/oz Palladium is currently the most valuable of the classic precious metals, though Rhodium commands an even higher price. My, how times have changed.

Platinum is the most undervalued of all of them at the moment. I've been buying up lots lately. I've liquidated all of my palladium now and continue to pick up as much platinum as i can until its overvalued compared to other pms again.

Platinum is now half the price of gold palladium and rhodium or both more expensive than gold palladium twice the price of gold and rhodium is roughly six times the price of gold.
