I love Frog Lube. I had a rusted barrel on a 760 pellet gun. I wire brushed all the old bluing off the barrel then used some metal polish to polish it to a bare shiny bare metal. Looked almost like a chrome plated metal. I then heated the barrel and applied Frog Lube to the hot metal, then wiped it clean. This gun has been stored in an unheated garage in Kansas, and now, at least six years later, the metal is still as shiny and free of any rust as the day i treated it with the frog lube. I now treat all my guns with a hot Frog Lube treatment!

I've never tried their product, but the Lucas did great. Especially considering it was handicapped because its square on the plate was the only sample placed on the outside edge of the plate on TWO sides instead of just one like all the other samples. Knowing how rust migrates, that's a pretty big deal. I Might have to give that oil a try. I thought they just made automotive products, and I've never seen it at my local gun store or range. Thanks for the test!

the way froglube simplifies my cleaning is great. if u do the heat application properly ur gun will sweat the stuff and stay lubed. it lubes well and keeps my gun slick and not dripping lube anywhere. i always hated having to dump break free all over my squads rifles in the corps i really think its one of the better options out there

Used Frog lube, MPro7, Lucas and remoil. Love Frog lube and mpro7!, the paste and grease respectively in particular. The Lucas is a great lube and fairly in expensive, but I have had my Sks rust a little using it. As for the rem oil I think is complete junk and wouldn't let my enemy use the crap. That shot should be pulled off the shelf.

Hi thanks for these great videos. I've watched all your videos on comparing gun cleaning and lubricating/protecting products and I gotta ask. What's the final verdict? For the cleaner it's easy, Hoppe's 9 did a great job, but what about greases and Oils? I'm new gun owner and want to protect my guns as best as possible. I also don't shoot as often as I like maybe a few times a year so need something to protect my guns when they're stored. Currently I own an Arsenal AK-47 and Browning BPS 12g shotgun. Have only put around 500 rounds through the AK and only about 20rounds through the shotgun. My AK is now a few years old and I've been using Birchwood Gun Scrubber on it and Birchwood synthetic gun oil and they seem to do an OK job. I am running out of the gun scrubber so I'll be buying a bottle of Hoppe's 9 very soon, I still have a lot of Oil left but have been hearing about greases especially on AK's rails. I'm also in the process of buying a cheaper AK i.e. WASR-10 and putting a slide fire stock on it and use that gun strictly for "full Auto" fun and realize that I need some excellent protection for that gun and grease seems like it would do a better job than oil at least for high heat situations i.e. bump firing. So I guess what are your top 2 or 3 Oils and greases that you would recommend based on all your testing, keeping in mind that my guns will be sitting in a gun safe for months at a time between shootings. Thanks again for the great work/channel.

My Grand-dad was 3nd generation of hand making his hunting rifles/shotguns. I can't recall him having cans of gun cleaning oils in his shop. I did see many cans of motor oil, like Penzoil, Quaker etc. but then again, they had several motors they had to use it for: tractor, cherry picker, Jeep, 2 cars, and fishing boat. And I know he also maintained the motors for lathe, and tools in the shop for working/repairing all engines and motors on the farm. So in the early-mid 1800's-1900's what did soldiers, hunters ...use to clean and preserve their guns? By most accounts, sperm oil (from the head cavity of a sperm whale) was the best gun lubricant, if and when available. Second choice was other whale oil, although an 1878 U.S. Army manual warned that whale oil could become “gummy and hard on exposure to the air.” Neat’s-foot oil (boiled from the shinbones and feet of cattle) was also recommended, for oiling both guns and gun leather. An 1862 Pennsylvania scientific journal noted that “armor oil [mineral oil]…is intended especially for gun-locks.” Even a temporary dab of olive oil, castor oil, lard, tallow, other animal fat or wagon wheel grease was better than no lubricant at all. I can't say definitively that he never ever bought commercial gun cleaners/oils but I don't think they were during my great and great, great Grand-dads eras. And I used linseed oil/mineral oil (sometimes) to finish off the rifle stocks he made for his rifles/pistol grips. The linseed oil was for wood not metal gun parts, so I think they used motor oil later on in the 1900's.

Chiming in from Australia. I'll be brief: Manual rimfires, break action shotguns, bolt action centerfires are pretty much what most people can get access to recreationally. People who require them for work (farmers etc) can get semi auto rimfires and pump shotguns with a capacity of less than 5. Semi auto centerfires are extremely hard to obtain. Pistols can be obtained, but must be fired at designated ranges

"rem-oil performed as expected. it's not expessive". Yes, rem-oil has never been the best at corrosion resistance. However, one does not need to pay premium for good corrosion protection. Breakfree actually outperforms froglube in corrosion protection. Also, the un-coated area around the rem-oil square is considerably more corroded than the un-coated areas around the other products. So other factors may have been at play

here is a trick for ya, next time you do a test like this with steel, buy you a can of metal prep, you can get it at any place that sell automotive paint , Clean the steel before you put anything on it , this will kill your rust before you put the test fluids on. This will give you better results....I have done auto painting before and if you start with bare metal this is a must , if not you will be fighting rust , under the paint ,

I also wonder like some, why you did not test the tried and true oils like Hoppes? Sheath, AKA Barricade is another one. In my long 53 years, Rem Oil is the worst stuff you can buy so I truly expected it to finish last in your test. Someone else did a test on cleaners, new and old, and over all Hoppes came out on top. This test was done in a lab. So I am curious how Hoppes oil would do in your test. Sometimes newer is not better but could be as good.

I've have seen and read many reports and videos that the frog lube doesn't do very good on semi auto rifles=bolt carriers and semi auto shotguns causing the bolts not to cycle correctly especially on semi auto shotguns that its too thick and gravy like to use on moving parts? some heavy oils with a lot of tactifiers do not do well on moving parts and is even worse in cold weather
