I received this set and I'm very surprised. 3x sprues in mil. green and the quality is absolutely 100%, the bases are to die for, the detail is astounding, the material and the quality just makes you wonder if you want an extra box! Amazing product, probably my favourite US infantry models. Can't wait to get painting!

Would also recommend the late war set by Revell if you like your US infantry.

It's as Great set

Italeri's figures are great for detail. They just always have some really awkward poses, and strange mistakes. Like oversized weapons, oversized limps, bits that haven't been cast properly and things like that.

These are of a high quality, Italeri do however have some old Esci sets which are not as good

Great review,thank you. I like the way you describe them as being wargaming pieces. Great detail,really quality figures. Did you know that they're made out of a plastic that you can carefully reposition arms and twist heads and can come up with some slightly different poses? I bought a few sets for some specific poses but they were just a little bit too large for me and didn't mix well with other manufacturers. Nobody firing their rifle either. thanks again I enjoy your reviews and I enjoy your responses.

Fun fact: If you want this , you can look for the Sherman gift kit set with the infantry. You pay little bit more, but get paints for the Sherman+ infantry+ brush+glue for a bit more $ or £ on top. P.S vinyl tracks are in the kit, not plastic Edit: cant find it on the Italeri site, weird- just amazon or ebay

Agree with your thumbs up for this set, definitely an improvement on the old Esci one. Am off to Remagen and the Hurtgen forest for a battlefield trip next week so I may bump into these guys!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but 1/76=21.2mm, and 1/72=22.4mm? For example, Valiant Miniatures WW2 plastic miniatures state 1/72, but measure 26mm-27mm.

Yes, that's why I made a comment about your statement on their size (just a query). I was surprised that another company made 1/72 scale miniatures 'above normal' (22.4mm). Valiant Miniatures (as stated earlier), are 26mm-27mm, making them 1.98m tall (to scale). I know some manufacturers either measure from the feet to the eyes or feet to the head. I measured some Italeri British WW2 troops I have, and they measured approximately 25mm.

About the Tank crew I think that the "wargames approved" is part of the answer. For instance if in your game you have a tank and this tank IS destroyed or severly damaged then thé surviving crew might disembark. Then you are happy to have the figurines reprensenting this.

I made the mistake of buying these without seeing a review......where do I start? Apart from the giant size and odd - sometimes bizarre poses, their webbing and pouches are an odd mix and bear no relation to the weapon carried in some cases. The machine gunner looks like he is trying to drown kittens or throttle a chicken as the Browning M1919A4 is just not fired that way. The ammo boxes are the size of suitcases and that bazooka looks more like a howitzer than the M1 in my militaria collection. And what it about mortars that these sculptors don't understand? In almost every plastic set there are figures kneeling in homage waving at the things instead of operating them!! But worst of all they are just too big to fit in alongside my existing collection of Airfix, Caesar and Esci figures collected and painted over the years.

Very good analysis Stuart, yes I'm glad I reviewed these figures, they are very tall and more in line with table top wargaming, they ddo look great but the height is a real pain!

@@TOYSOLDIERREVIEW So do they look out of scale if mixed with 1/72 by other manufacturers? Re the machine gun - should it be higher? Maybe the crew are supposed to be just setting up; not a good pose though, even for wargames. Thanks for the detailed review.
