At 7:38 Para Bren gunners commonly carried pistols, so they got that right. The bayonet is a reasonable attempt at a No. 4 Mk II spike bayonet. At 9:44 the pouch on the sniper's belt is the case for the telescopic sight and its spares. Despite the fact that they are not in proper fighting order (and that they carry the wrong mark of machine carbine) I do think this is one of the best sets that they ever did (that standing rifleman is a masterpiece!), along with the Eighth army and Afrika Korps sets.

Indeed, the correct type of machine carbine/sub machine gun would not have been the Mk II, but the Mk V with a (decent) pistol grip for the trigger, and even in front of the magazine a pistol grip like the early models of the Thompson smg. Quite a luxury! As far as I remember it there was always something wrong with almost all Airfix WW2 1/32 figure sets.

I have early sets of WW2 German infantry, Afrika Korps and 8th Army and I will admit the later sets were remolded but the British Para's were one of the few that have never been remolded. The producer of this video obviously agree's with his comments above. Check all the Airfix catalogues or the books written about the subject that have been issued since the early '70's or the website I mentioned before and you will see what I am talking about.

it is interesting because the poses in this set are the most standard poses for American "toy soldiers" except that the guy pointing and the sniper have a helmet instead of a beret and the other soldiers have less detailing on the helmets. But the point I am making is that these poses of British paratroopers are essentially the most mass produced and known toy soldiers in the USA for the WW2 era, and are often packaged with the American flag, despite clearly being British, equipped with British weapons. The typical American "toy soldiers" are literally based on these molds. There are only 2 other competing sets that I am aware of, including the Vietnam era set(which IS American) and them there is some other commando set which I also think is British. This is quite odd as an American, because we grew up placing USA first, not even thinking to consider that the set may not actually be of Americans. btw the radio guy unfortunately never made it to the American sets so it is funny you brought him out last.

Thanks for the response - I have favoured 1:72 myself for the last 50+ years and that's what I have been using for the sets for kids, but with 200 or so pieces they aren't really 'take out then put away after play' and I thought smaller sets of 20 soldiers for each side in 54mm might be handy - I recommend people provide a shelf 4-5ft long and 16-18 inches deep so the set can be left in play for days but some folks just don't 'get it' - Enjoying your reviews though

I have only seen a couple but they look pretty good - I am concentrating on kits for the youngsters because I want to encourage them to add details themselves (sadly there isn't anything like the old Airfix mag out there, I remember making my bofors quads from the Airfiz Quad with a modified 6-pounder as the gun - per the article I used the hub of an 88mm gun wheel to extend the flash hider. - I even had a go at the scratch build Hamilcar glider, that ended up as a 'crashed' example!)
