This is truly painful as someone who got into PvZ because of GW1. It was such an amazing concept that people outside the PvZ fanbase are never aware of. It was the last genre one would expect PvZ to tackle, and it worked... and then some. If EA actually *TRIED* to advertise BFN to make it more profitable, we might not be in such a bad spot. This really sucks.

The fan community is still thriving, and have been for a long time without new content. I’ve been around artists that show their appreciation to the franchise and introduced fascinating ideas about PvZ, such as OC’s, fan-stories, and more. I’m absolutely sure that even when fans move on to other genres, I’ll stay with PvZ.

I know what you mean like, I feel they found an awesome formula with GW2 but then just tried to change it too much when they could have just gone all Call of Duty on it, make GW3 just some new variants new maps etc. and people would have loved it I think 😊 But I mean I still enjoyed BfN I think it just had so much unused potential :/

It’s sad to see the shooter games not getting more updates, but I’m glad PopCap is still creating PvZ content for the fans to enjoy! I’m not losing hope for this franchise!

The PvZ GW series was probably one of my all-time favourite games that I played. Loved the quirky nature of the game that other shooters don’t really offer. Such a shame to see it be discontinued

I'm in a similar position, like I think this was expected news we were going to get at some point unfortunately :/ But yeah 100% there's always something new and positive to look forward to. As long as they're making the games, I'll be excited to find out what they're planning to do next. I just hope they can rekindle PvZ's popularity it's had in the past 😊

I would proably expect these servers to shut down faster but they due take a small risk since the only offline play i know on Gw1 is ops co-op. If anthing servers usually just refer to anthing multiplayer related. In other words the only shooter game that acually supports offline is Pvz bfn complete edition.

I think this mostly could explain the cancelation of BFN, including the business failure.

Potentially, I think lots of staff moves probably had quite a big impact and perhaps the plug was pulled early on BfN as it wasn't making the money they hoped it would :/

I do really hope to see a gw3 I really really enjoyed playing gw2 I love the different plants u can get and zombies the whole Idea was a great thing and it was really fun to play I’m pretty upset knowing that they have out the nail in the coffin for the shooter version of pvz but hey like he said lots of great memories will remain in the game

I hope we might get a gw3, it doesn't have to be a full makeover, just polish up all the old assets from gw2 and maybe take back the old gw1 maps and then release it with everything from both games all polished up and improved, i think it would be a easy method of bringing the series back without starting from the ground up, and with how rough fans for had it for years now i think a a major rework would be enough for most of us, it doesn't even have to have new classes, perhaps just two more for each side at best but the focus should be to polish and improve upon the old classes

I kind of expected this to happen. I liked the pvz shooters and this is disappointing. I feel like bfn needed another year in development. EA clearly set a impossible deadline meaning most of the content such as character variants needed to out cut out to make the deadline. What makes this even more upsetting however, is that you can see the love and work put into each of the games. If only bfn had another year in development I feel like the shooters would be doing much better.

Listening to this news makes me yearn to go back in time to play gw1 with my cousin. While I did not play gw2 as much because I was doing other stuff. But I recently played it again last year and had a blast. It’s really sad for me but, it doesn’t mean the end from the spinoffs, just the games from the studio. I’ll still miss these games.

My heart feels broken as this is one of the few games I can still get the family to play together and we have so much fun playing it. Hopefully someone smart will see there's still a large fan base for these shooters and keep them going.

I am not surprised, just heartbroken. The GW series was one of, if not my favorite fps game due to how unique and quirky it was. I had purchased GW2 on pc recently, and man... the servers are unplayable. Filled to the brim with cheaters and just dead servers in general. I am pretty high ranked on PlayStation, and thankfully those servers are still looking okay, but it's truly sad to see the series die like this (the shooter series, at least. I have never stopped loving PvZ since PvZ 1). Here's hoping to a brighter future

not gonna lie i downloaded the game yesterday & there’s like 900 active players i ran into 0 cheaters that’s initially what was thinking after hopping back on the game after 4 years just try hards & bots but it was fun asf most fun i’ve had its a breather from other competitive games def recommend hopping back on the pc version

@@cbass555 Since this comment has been made, things are definitely much better as a result of the steam release. There are way more players compared to cheaters, but I still find myself in lobbied with cheaters every other game or so. It’s unfortunate, but I’m glad PC isn’t completely dead, it’s definitely playable now. I just wish they still read player reports, because even without a decent anti-cheat, these cheaters have a financial incentive to not cheat as compared to a F2P game facing similar issues, TF2 (losing accounts costs them money).

The franchise has, and always will, hold a truly special place in all of our hearts. Yes, I'm sad to see the shooters go, but who knows, maybe there'll be greater things down the road.

The original developers thought the sale to EA would bring greater things down the road too, and look how that turned out. PvZ Heroes has been dead in the water for years, BfN came out prematurely and died in its infancy, PvZ2 was a huge mess of conflicting updates until a year or two ago, and Adventures… we don’t talk about Adventures. PvZ was the first Tower Defense game I ever played, and it fostered a love of gaming as a whole that I still hold onto today. Still, that doesn’t mean I can ignore the facts - PvZ is hurting bad, and it doesn’t look good for our future. The beta for PvZ3 looks only marginally better than the shameless mess that was the alpha release, and there isn’t much else left if that fails. PvZ2 is already a major point of contention in the PvZ community to this day; PvZ3 bombing is almost certainly the final nail in the coffin for the franchise. Frankly, they’re trying to fix what is clearly not broken. PvZ was a masterpiece, but every game after has had that revolting tinge of EA greed that sucks the life outta you and your wallet if you play seriously. Even the mobile version is littered with those same terrible mobile ads now. If EA doesn’t sell the license or lay off soon, then I’m afraid that the series I loved so much as a kid isn’t gonna make it.

I still hope that we will get more not mobile exclusive PvZ games. I was never a big fan of mobile games with all the ads and microtransactions...

I heard rumors that MOTIVE (the studio who made the recent star wars games) is going to replace PopCap Vancouver and being in charge of the pvz shooters. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE OR NOT.

I feel like if the beta was more open to opinions and criticism the game would have either been made significant better, or scrapped before they released and went for a GW3. But one could only wish

Yeah maybe but I think it was some fundamental changes that effected BfN from being as popular as the previous titles - but I know what you mean if they had made it so they'd been able to get more feedback initially, things might have turned out differently :/

The only way to put my feelings on this is a mix of sadness, dissapointment, and partly being happy for the memories... its been a good run 😓

I still play the game to this day and luckily the lobbies are still close to full, so i wouldn't say it's officially dead since there's a good amount of players.

I wish that Steve would give us soil survivors and boss hunts instead of rando’s rapid revenge and other mixed modes all the damn time

Watching pvz as a franchise is like watching a painfully slow carcrash that somehow lasts till the next day, i wish noting best for pvz but at this point im just beginning for something good

BFN was the pinnacle of pvz shooter devs failing in design, in gw1 they started very well designing character textures like plasma pea and many more, but in gw2 just got bad and bfn was the final nail in the coffin in texture design

Personally, I like the way the characters look in BFN because it goes with me more cartoony design of the PVZ games, but I think GW2 was the best one. It combined a more cartoon aspect, without removing a character's personality.

I feel like this could all be traced back to the cancellation of BFN. It was clear that they had intended to keep the game going based on all the leaked content, but because the game was a flop, EA decided to pull the plug on the game. Still, I'm honestly surprised. I've checked all three PvZ shooters, and all of them are still getting new players, based on the number of no-plates.

It does look bleak for the shooters unfortunately. I got the original PvZ on Steam and loved it and then got into GW when it released on PC and it went from there. Despite the current situation, we do need a new shooter one of these days and a ton of people, myself included, really want one. We need new content for such a great shooter series!

Indeed, but yeah like you say I think there is a big gap in the marketing for a really good, really funny and silly 3rd person shooter - Popcap were definitely onto something 😊

I’m just more sad that here in australia you can’t even get a game, unless you play on 180 ping which makes the game almost unplayable IMO

Ah man, this really sucks. Pvz is my favorite franchise, especially the shooters, even bfn, and it sucks it ended like this, not even on a high note. I remember getting gw2 because I saw it on Amazon and played pvz1 on the ds. I instantly fell in love, then was super hyped for bfn, which despite all the things everyone said, I really enjoyed it and pvz will always remain my favorite game franchise.

EA really need to hire or create a studio for pvz shotter games. I really would love to see a gw3, bfn2 or more updates for both gw and bfn. Pvz shoters are so cool, but there is a lot of wasted potential.

I think the reason why the shooter games Are dead is because It's non other Than BFN (the game itself) this Game killed it.

Nope bfn was being worked on a low budget since this was the second of two games being worked on the first game being a Pvz free roam adventure game which most of gw2’s budget went to and bfn was the second game which was meant to be realsed far far before. In other words they were working with what they had entirely basicly and it was a low budget shooter desperate for money to make up from.

@@GabrielOflTM yea especially after that free roam game being scrapped and bfns poor reputation I felt like the Vancouver team was working on a poor budget for bfn and heck their was some questionable purchases they made on bfn as well. I mean as much as Twitter is inaccurate I herd a tweet mentioning they spent way to much money on a literal song that costed way to much.

Ooowwwwhhh... That's not good. The saga of the third person shooters of PvZ for me was awesome (BFN still not good LoL), so i'm sad for this, because that means they can't develop GW games for a while. Well, at least we have PvZ3, a title can save for a little bit much longer PvZ.

Lets be honest, PvZ gw2 was in a state of Rigor Mortis for a while. PvZ BfN had potential to be a really good shooter with more focus on the PvE aspect (can't really deny that they nailed those) And Gw1 is long gone. EA can't have a good multiplayer focused game for more than 1-3 years Like look at battlefields, battlefronts, PvZ shooters (rip)

I want to promise everyone to work on these games in my future, sadly I'm still a young child learning to code and won't be able to try to work on it for about 10 years.

Its actually quite sad for me. I remember back then when the very first one came out, I would play it everyday and night and had so much love for it. Then plants vs zombies garden warfare 2 came out. It was even better then the first one and was so fun (Still is to this day) Then they come up with BFN the worst one. It is literally a downgrade money maker. "Thanks a lot EA" for ruining all your games you touch, horrible company.

Yeah I think we all have super fond memories of the games but yeah I think if better decisions had been made we'd be in a much different position now :/

I am angry with EA, they should do a new plant character in pvz bfn (maybe iceberg lettuce) but NO, zombies have more characters than plants. The most important thing for EA is: if the game is not producing a profit, then let's leave it, who cares

That is kinda the same thing with other game publishers. If the game is not producing a profit than there really isn't a reason to keep it going.

Yeah unfortunately EA does seem to only really care for the profit, which makes sense as a business but because they seem to be so focused on the financial side of things it has seemed to affect games negatively :/

It’s sad to see all the devs leave the game. Garden warfare was one of my favorite shooters. However I’m excited to see what popcap has in stock

I don't see why in the distant future a new studio couldn't be set up to make PvZ Shooter games, I don't think that's impossible, it's unlikely, but not impossible. A new company could buy Popcap from EA, anything could happen 😅 For example a new studio created Crash Bandicoot 4 - Crash 3 was made over a decade ago 😊 I think it's because I'm a very positive person, if it doesn't happen that's okay and you'll probably be right. I just think it's nice to look on the positive 'what if's' sometimes - life is too short to be looking at the negatives all the time. Plus I never think it's good to think your own opinion is correct and everyone else is wrong.

@@RedheadGaming you said that in a very nice way that many others probably could not but you provided a pretty good example like with Crash so it could possibly have a slim chance of happening. By time a new PvZ shooter comes out whether by EA or not unfortunately probably a lot of people would have moved on by then. And I do agree maybe I should’ve been a bit more passive rather than aggressive with my words. Another problem is a lot of kids who grew up with PvZ are getting older and going on to other titles like Call Of Duty, and with the current state PvZ is at I don’t think it will attract as much younger audiences than it did in the golden age of the franchise. So I’m assuming if Popcap/EA don’t release something that breaks the internet for PvZ, it’ll probably only go down from here until it hits rock bottom.

I hope EA is able to get their stuff together so we can get at least one more PVZ GW game that's actually good as a send off for this amazing series.

I like bfn but we need to realize that they still needed to exceed the requirements of Gw2 which they failed to due especially when most of their Gw2 budget was put into the scrapped free roam adventure Pvz game.

@@Otherface yea that’s kinda my point that’s what really really hurts bfn in the long run look at how many updates Gw1 and Gw2 got. But to say bfn didn’t have any flaws when it first began would be a lie. The characters themselves were orignally very broken heck some were demanded to be playable like nightcap and super brains while others were simpily just unplayable due to the more stronger high damaging classes. By the last update for bfn it felt mediocre and acually felt like the start of a game getting out of beta or alpha testing stages due to the update focusing on many of the problems with the characters themselves something that repairville was just trying to say but heck I don’t really much agree with repairville itself. The goal was proably to be somewhat like overwatch especially how easily comparable the game mechanics are. And they proably wanted to more copy and idea rather of think of a new unquie idea hence why most community feedback was ignored.

I’m not saying the game was bad. I love BFN, the switch version is actually my second third favorite PVZ game, but to popcap and more importantly EA, BFN I think has been deemed a failure in their eyes.

Dang I'm genuinely sad, these games were my childhood. It's so sad to see how one bad game ruined it all.

Such a shame people didn't give battle for neighborville the chance it deserved. I absolutely LOVED garden warfare 1, its ABSOLUTELY in my top 3 games of all time, but garden warfare 2 was honestly so much worse than garden warfare 1, and battle for neighborville came and fixed that issue! Super brains and imp RUINED garden warfare 2 for me, it makes playing plants a horrible experience unless you're using the busted electro pea or petrified cactus. Super brains was so unbalanced, he's the zombie's chomper class yet they made him an ACTUALLY good character. He doesn't die to drones or people on roofs, and he had tools to get into fights as well as escape them, he even has more health! then they reworked him in the final update but gave no further balancing to those changes so now he flys all around the map at lightning speeds at the price of making his secondary, which was unique for each variant, worthless. Imp on the other hand is self explanatory! Everything imp does makes the game impossible to have fun with, plants were already weak enough in GW1, what with foot soldier being the easiest to use and the most OP character in ALL 3 games, imp just rubs lemon juice and salt into the wound. But guess what fixed that? Battle for neighborville. (ignoring BrainBash) Super brains isn't OP anymore, and chomper is now a good character! Imp's "skill-kata" and gravity nade aren't as free anymore and his mech both got nerfed AND buffed. The running mechanic breathed a whole new feel into the game i never knew GW needed so bad! I would have still preferred variants over the upgrade system, but that was the ONLY problem the game had besides needing balance changes. I hope PvZ shooters aren't really "officially dead," I even doubt they are because no company would ever let a franchise die, they always bring them back to milk them for money eventually. But hopefully we won't have to wait too long for that.

Mainly cause the team isn't there any more and I guess financially for EA it doesn't make sense to continue the shooters at least for now :/

Actually I always watch this pvz gw since 2017 but I don't really play it lol, I also came back to watch again and saw this video. I'm really sad that the shooter games are not getting updates like it's completely dead, I hope they can update it again and watch.

the little sound effect of getting a kill in PvZ Garden warfare is something i'll never forget! so satisfying, I really hope they make another good shooter in the future.

Gotta be honest, I've lost nearly all of my intrest in Plants vs. Zombies at this point

Oh man, I know it was coming but it still hurts!! I remember being 10 when first I played GW1 the first time, now I’m 18! I have met many still close friends from that community and I don’t know where I’d be without them

can someone to tell me, is worth to buy gw2 now? i dont care much for the multiplayer cause from what i have seen it has plenty of pve content, so its worth it or nah? i have the 1st one and i loved it so much but the prices between the 1st (29,99E) and the 2nd (59,99E) were ridiculous, thats why i didnt bought it back then. so now im thinkin to buy it but im not so sure. i need some opinions

Is it still worth getting the game ? Loved it as a kid and I wanted to get it again

that kinda sucks, but as a TF2 player im not surprised at all because that will happen to TF2 after some years (or maybe in a few decades), but we still have one guy working on TF2 in his spare time, and im glad that he is still bringing us updates even if it's not major ones(that's something EA could do but they probably wouldn't do that)
