I'm in Zone 4 here in Minnesota, and have 3 large old oaks that are a challenge to garden under because under them it is actually part sun but quite dry because the canopy is so high abd very thick. Lungwort, lamium, ajuga, creeping Jenny, jacob's ladder, allium, geranium, mum, astilbe, bee balm, annabelle hydrangea, bush honeysuckle nightglow, liatris, moonbeam coreopsis, balloon flower, cardinal flower and coneflower I have had success with. Hostas and huechera however struggle if they are too close to the trunk or if near a large root, but those at least five away do just fine and if given extra water.
Hellabores are deer resistant
Lungwort is my favorite plant for shade, epimedium, Barrenwort is rare as hen's teeth where I live.
Just found your channel. So informative, love it, just subscribed.😊
Very informative! Thanks for sharing
As for hostas, they are beautiful, but I lost the battle with slugs over the hostas, unfortunately. Thanks for this video.

I had an over abundance of slugs once so sprinkle with salt and they dissolve - if you don't want to kill them there are others ways to catch & remove.

I also lost my battle with slugs over the hostas, with the exception of a couple of hostas I had in pots. Those are still going!

I call my hostas gourmet deer food. All of them survive, but deer do like them.
Hi Anne 🤚
Are any of these deer resistant?

NO

We love ajugas. They do spread readily but that’s exactly what we wanted instead of weeds in the garden.

Yes, a few of them are listed as resistant to deer.
