Planting Tulips In Pots 🌷 | How To Be Successful With Your Bulb Lasagne | Bulbs Growing Series (#1)

Planting Tulips In Pots 🌷 | How To Be Successful With Your Bulb Lasagne | Bulbs Growing Series (#1)
So it begins, the great planting of all Spring Bulbs!
Very happy to be planting my first Tulips of the season (I have 750 bulbs to go through, that's a lot for my small garden and IT WILL FIT!!!), many more planting sessions will follow this one!
Planting Tulips in containers is really easy, all you need is a bit of compost and you're ready to go! Creating layers of bulbs (aka a 'Bulb Lasagne') in a container is a great way to maximise your space and create a gorgeous show with a limited footprint.
One important tip: plan for at least 5/8 cm of compost in between layers (also your top layer needs to be at the appropriate depth for the bulb - 10/15 cm for Tulips) to give enough space for the roots.
Here I am using a bulb starter but that's completely optional!
Don't panic, there is still time to plant your Spring bulbs, until Christmas (as they will still need a period of cold in order to flower properly).
Hope you will have a beautiful spring show and stay tuned for the next videos in the series (planting in a border & in grass)
xx

I'll be doing something similar, but I will be covering with winter bedding plants for some winter colour. Here in the UK we can usually get some winter hardy pansies and violas which look lovely.

Love your channel...so nice to see how a small garden can be so rewarding and beautiful. Will you take up the bulbs and re-use next year once they have finished flowering (if so can you do a video to show the process)? Thank you. Xx

Thank you so much, it means a lot ❤️ Thank you for the video suggestion! I will try to film as much of the process as possible 😊 Typically, I have to lift the bulbs early (before the foliage has time to fully die back and recharge the bulbs) to fit my Dahlias in... and may have to treat them as annuals. However, last Autumn, I've been able to re-plant some Tulips in my parent's garden and some Daffodils in my own (lifted from last year) so I'll report back on how they did!! xx

After planting the tulip bulbs in a pot, can I leave it outdoors even during snowing/raining till blooming in Spring?

Yes ! Tulips are frost hardy and should be fine so long as the pot has good drainage 😊

Hi Michelle, only water if doesn’t rain enough, the soil needs to be moist not yet as the bulbs might rot 😊 Hope you have lots of beautiful blooms come Spring!! 😘😘

You mean 8 inches no ?

I was trying to say that there needs to be a bit of soil under each layer of bulbs (about 8 cm) so that they can develop roots!
