It has been one chore after the other as we head into Fall .. I finally sat down to edit some footage of what we have been up to: Harvesting Corn, Planting Garlic, Digging Sweet potatoes, and now, planting Crocuses (and some more daffodils) Day lilies, daffodils and crocus were abundant in my Grandmother's gardens .. and I am beginning to see why she loved having these plants around.

Flowers are often preferred as buds rather than open flowers, like thistles (including artichokes) and cauliflower.

Figs, too .. they're an inside-our flower! Occasionally edible flowers make their way into the supermarkets .. I've see rose of Sharon in the produce isle of some fancy places - but there are so many great edible things (not just flowers) that have such poor transportability, or are too difficult to mechanically process that they never get to the supermarket. You have to grow them yourself, or be fortunate enough to sit down in a restaurant where the chef has some good country connections. A happy side effect of attempting to grow so many different things is the ability to walk out into the garden at nearly any time of year, and find food there. I like watching Weird Explorer .. he travels the world and taste tests exotic fruits and veggies: That way, I don't have to wait until I've already spent time and money growing something in order to find out that I won't like it 😁

@@Green.Country.Agroforestry Andrew Zimern had a show on the Food Network for a while, until he got crosswise of management. I think it was called “Bizarre Food.” If I heard aright, someone was offended by his assessment of “Midwest Chinese“ restaurants (🤮)!

I have finally picked the maypop fruits; two had dropped into water and two - I think - were frost touched. They need to dry some before I dare send them so they don’t spoil in shipping.

Ha! It may improve the flavor of any meal (according to Thomas Jefferson) .. but I don't think that that is a spice! 😁

Winter white wheat - is that for a cover crop, duck feed, human food, or ? Is it any particular variety?

Its a basic winter white, something to cover the ground in the duck yard that they won't eat up, added benefit, it IS wheat, and we can use it for food if we want, and straw for the duck bedding, too.

When he comes by make him take the time, to match brains, discuss, and 'sit long and talk much'! It's about Friendships, take it from an old Boy Scout in Minti-sota. !

He's planning on stopping by on the way back. Now that it isn't an outdoor steam oven, the driveway is a nice place to park a camper van for the night 😁
