Loved how patient your dog was for playing with you! Great advice as I have two potted canes like yours to go in a large container. Cheers.
Really clear, concise instructions - exactly what I was hoping for. Thank you 👍
Are you ever gonna do a follow up video to see how they did?
I love the progress you've made in your videos! You are a great gardener and I learned a lot. Thanks!
Thank you Jack for showing me how to plant berries. I'm getting ready to plant a row on my little place on Pine Meadows Hobby Farm. Good information. I subbed your channel so I can stay updated on new material your uploading.
i like straight forward approach to the point. keep up the good work. i just planted my raspberry in a pot yesterday
This has been the best example of planting raspberries I have seen. Thank you so much for the help. =)
Thank you very much. Your explanation is quick and easy to follow.

+Johnny Tortuga She always wants to play! Hahaha Thanks for watching - I hope it helped your raspberry endeavours!
Thanks for the video. Really easy to follow and understand! Great for new eager gardeners such as myself.. Xx
Thank you so much! This was a huge help and I am excited to add rasberries to my greenhouse this year!
Clear visual and verbal guidance to plant raspberry canes for a novice. Really helpful. Keep up the good work!
Good video. I've been giving some raspberry plants and wanted to plant them in a container instead of in my yard and this was the perfect video to see. Thanks 👍🏼
Really helpful Jack - thanks!
I will cut my Autumn raspberry canes back to 15cm in mid winter, around December/January time when they are fully dormant. If growing in containers you can cut your autumn raspberries right back to ground level! I have already cut back my summer canes, as they have finished fruiting! Jack.
So glad I found this video. I’ve just purchased a raspberry plant similar size. Needs repotting, great tips.
Thank you so much. Your video is very easy to follow.
Nice easy to follow instructions. Just enough information to retain without pulling out the gardening books for reference... Love your dog btw
Great vid. I'm going to use this method for mine. Thanks!
My autumn bliss literally fruit until it snows out here. You're really going to enjoy them. They're a really high yielding fruit.
Love the way you speed up the vid when doing things - lots of gardening vids are too long/boring cos they don't do this - of course its good to SEE the process but speeding it up it makes it easier to watch and no less clear - excellent "how to" instructions - have subscribed :)

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Thank You, Jack!
Thanks, Kay. Wow! 18 canes, that should provide you with a nice size crop and keep you busy too! Keep us posted on how your getting on with those canes! Jack
You would cut down the fruiting (ONLY the fruiting canes) summer raspberry canes after the harvest, leaving the new canes which you can then tie in. With autumn fruiting varieties you wait and cut all the canes back in February. Theres a whole heap of info on the RHS website and I will have a video on how to cut them back later in the season!
Excellent tutorial and one beautiful dog! Thanks for helping to make this easier and more enjoyable for us. Now to plant some Raspberries with my Wife.

Hi Jack, Were there any holes in the container? I did not see any and was wondering about the roots not draining.
Thanks for that info Jack.

Well done Jack. Another very nice video. I planted about a dozen canes last year into my new allotment so hopefully this year I'll have some tasty fruit. I look forward to your next film clip :) Best wishes Steve from Cornwall
great video! thank you!
Thanks for the informative video. Just subscribed. Cheers!
you are amazing! For someone so young, or any age really, you are so composed and speak so well. I stole a small sucker from a raspberry bush growing along the sidewalk near my house ( don't tell on me ;) ), put it in some water and wow how it likes to grow :) It has been 2 days and is starting to produce some roots. If I plant this in soil after it has produced a good amount of roots will it grow into a strong fruit bearing plant? Thanks

+Roppyz Thanks for watching! I hope you found it useful.
Excellent.
Nice video, I am going to do containers because I have no idea where I want them in the yard, and I may just like the look and keep them in containers :) I would recommend that you massage the roots a bit, my extension service recommends it if at all root-bound to encourage the roots to grow out and not in on themselves. Just a thought, I am no expert :) Thank you, and again, great video.
Raspberries are my favorite and quite expensive in the store but I don’t have room to plant them, this looks like a better way 👍
you the bomb Jack!
Thank you.
Dude I love YOU and your DOG have my subscription sir.

Jack Shilley can you use that same soil for growing strawberries?
Beautiful young man after my own heart. You wouldn't believe how many plants I stick in a container and they thrive off one another. Doesn't you soil settle quite a bit like that? I always pack it down pretty hard and water it to see where it's really going to settle then plant- and I agree with you on having heavy enough soil. I have horses and get tempted to use lots of light finished compost but wonder if it's heavy enough so I mix with clay. Anyway, good on you planting in pots. Raspberry fields can be war zones of thorns. Am going to try your pot method. Thanks
lovely, thank you. It would have been nice to hear about where in your sun/shade mix you would place the container.

+Heather L RI Thanks for watching! The best place to or your container is in a position that is sunny! They will grow in partially shady areas but the amount of fruit will be less. I hope this helps!
Very good
Best video !
Thank you for the great video. I have just received some raspberry canes, and I have no previous experience growing them. I like the idea of planting them in pots. Can they live in larger pots indefinitely?
our rasberry patch is super thick, we haven't properly pruned in years, and they have no support, which isn't a big deal untill they fruit. i should take better care of them, but there are so many canes in a small area producing so much fruit i made a batch of jelly and had i not eaten most of what i picked i probably could have made two or three batches.
thanks
I very much enjoyed this video, and plan to plant rasberries in containers in spring. It is snowing here, just outside of Philadelphia, but I am dreaming of spring and planting already. Thank you. -elaine
Pine bark. Pine bark is what I was missing all this time. It's very acidic as well. I've also heard to add a couple tablespoons of vinegar to the water u water with.
Thank you, Jack! Nicely done. One question about the crushed plastic pots at the bottom of the pot: Would that affect the plants' ability to develop organic fruit and leaves? Just curious. Thanks!
Great, straight to the point video! Can you leave them in the pot when they start growing berries or do you need to put them into a bigger container or in the ground?
Thank you for your sharing, can you share with me how's your blackberry plant looks like after 2 years? I have no idea how should I care for my potted blackberry after 1 year of growing them
How about placement in the yard (partial shade / full sun ) and pruning ( timing and lengths) ? Also, do you recommend adding in perlite or vermiculite ? Thanks !
Good video..will the raspberry plant continue to produce canes the following year..?
Thabk you I was having alot of trouble figuring out what kind of dirt should be used for rasberried
thx
Great video. What is the best time of the year to transplant them?
Hi Jack. What is the best time of the year to plant in containers, autumn and summer? What is the acidic or alkaline soil ratio and condition?
I planted two canes in May I didn’t expect fruit this year and they have grown and look good. I planted Meeker and Willamet(?). I read I’m supposed to cut the canes fir the winter. Im nit sure where to cut
Thanks for the video. I have a cane that i need to pot on. is there a crown that needs to sit at soil level or do i just plant to the level it was in the previous pot? there isn't a particular soil line on mine. thanks
awesome video Jack I am about to move from Norfolk to Unst an island of Shetland and want to did all my fruit tress and canes up would you just pot them into pots as their are or trim the canes as well please and thank you for you time
Do you have a video of the mature plant potted?
This is my first time growing raspberries, I planted them 4 weeks ago they had no leaves at all so I'm not sure if I have planted them correctly I have 4 canes in the one pot
Thank for your video. This was very helpful. I have just planted my raspberry according to your instructions but I have read some where that they need acidic soil. Will my raspberry "melting promise" fruit in none acidic soil???
aww crap, i didnt put anything at the bottom of my container. and my raspberry is a dwarf bush :(
Hi, Jack. Great video about raspberries in containers, many thanks. 1) I have some raspberries that have 'walked' around the garden, usually appearing about 4 ft tall. They fruit modestly every year. (the birds get most !). There are about a dozen at least, in various places. Iam hoping to dig them up , maybe after fruiting (?) and put them in containers, about the same size as the one you showed us in the video with the 2 named varieties. How many to a pot ? I think about 4 ? 2) Also, somehow a TALL, very healthy-looking raspberry has appeared in a sunny border, on the south east side of our home which presently contains tree mallow, buddleia, dog rose and honeysuckle. It is about 7 feet tall, with many bunches of fruit. I have never had a bush THIS big : what should I do when it has fruited? The border is poor-ish soil, on clay. It has not been fed : should I feed , June (now) to help the fruit along ? Would appreciate any advice on preserving this wonderful 'monster' raspberry ! Best Wishes, R.M. Near Southampton, England.
Great video! Any updates?
Great demo. Thank you. I wonder how well potted-raspberries can survive freezing, since their roots are so protected?

Hi! Glad you enjoyed the video - I tend to move the planter up against the wall of house to give them a bit more protection, but they are fully hardy and will therefore be fine outside 😊 hope that helps! ~ Jack
Like your vedio. Thanks.
How tall do you recommend to train these each year b4 you clip the top off to stop growth ?
I'm blown away that someone so young be so knowledgeable about plants you are a credit to your generation.
Is there a follow-up video to go along with this one?
be nice to see what they are like now.
Yes they are just heard now lol do u cut them back to 15cm in spring ?
