The deer and Rabbit destroyed my garden 3 years ago, and then I made a border with marigolds and lamb ears. I also go around my garden with powdered garlic and paprika. So far so good, no deer or rabbit attacks in two years. 🤞

Thanks for the tips!
I used one Picasso in a 12 inch pot and it was full and thick! Couldn’t stop looking at it!
Loved this video. I don’t have deer in my suburban areas but these recipes for containers was awesome 👏🏻
I love sunflowers. Lovely coleus ❤
I love the El Brighto and helianthus pot! I think I’ll try to repeat for my front porch pots. Thanks Cory!
I think this year I am going to a nursery and avoid the big box places……great video…. I plan to try the deer resistant flowers for my planters
Great pots!! Yes, more deer-resistant plant ideas, please. I live in the Pacific NW, Zone 8B. Deer has eaten my geraniums, hostas, hydrangeas, Coral Bark Japanese Maple tree, tulips, ranunculus, and sedum.

A neighbor here; I specifically planted things they shouldn’t like such as lavender, yarrow flowering alliums, and cherry blossom trees…. I tearfully watched on my security system as they pulled them out of the ground and tore up the trees, spitting out the yucky leaves and branches until there was nothing left.
Good info re Rubina and deer. I plant this in my window box because it is hardy for frost and last into the fall and can live without a lot of water. If they are taking over which normally they do not I just pull some of them and plant them in another planter.
I love Scaevola! I planted it for a few years in a couple of areas of my yard and the deer never touched it. Then one year, the deer devoured it so now I only plant it in containers on my deck. Great video!

They must have gotten the memo about how nice scaevola is 😀 At least you can still enjoy it in containers.

@@UpNorthGardenMI I have learned so much from you about container gardening! I'm so excited about my combinations I've put together this year.
Fabulous video! Thank you so much!!!
The deer will walk right past my hellebore as they munch up all the hostas along the foundation of my house.
Great video! Love this series of containers ideas! Looking forward to see how the one with the dahlia goes. I have heard dahlias don’t like fertilizer. Thank you for trying for us!!!
I think if deer see the same thing year after year, they'll try it and then eat it all. So mix it up. Always put the tried and true what deer can't stand within or around your plants - mums. They ate my green pepper plants, but I didn't pull them out. So they fleshed out again with more peppers.

If anything, the deer are consistently inconsistent 😀
Interesting video! I do not have deer issues but would definitely try these combos ... especially the first and last one.
Thank you for this video!!! I live in South Central Texas and the deer ate my Angelonia flowers last year. They eat the lantana flowers also.

Ugh. They’re ruthless!
Very nice
I love how honest you are with the amount of plants we actually need in our containers, so thank you for that!👏. I couldn’t figure out what you were comparing the scent of… but realized you said rape. Sorry, but here in Canada, that is referred to as Canola now…for obvious reasons.🙂. I’m so glad I found your channel, your info is great! 🇨🇦👏🇨🇦

I actually said grape for the angelonia. 🙊 We say canola here, but I know in Ireland it’s rape seed.

@@UpNorthGardenMI Oh, thank you for letting me know! I was confused as I was sure The States changed the name too. 🇨🇦👏🇨🇦
My horse ate my flowers in container so I stuck in some fake flowers and she ate them too! Haha

Now I know why they don’t mark plants as “horse resistant” 😁
Great suggestions. Shade and deer are my problems!!!
I don’t have deer but do have rabbits. This year they have nibbled on my day lilies and echinacea.
The only thing I’ve found that Texas deer won’t eat is Rosemary and Vinca.
Next give us squirrel resistant plants.

That’s one pest I haven’t had to contend with. Do they eat your plants or do they dig them up?

@UpNorthGardenMI Squirrels and chipmunks dig in the containers, but I had a squirrel eat half of the impatiens and diamond frost in a container a couple of weeks ago. I have tried putting wire mesh, toothpicks and human hair, but it doesn't really work. I did spray with a critter rid product afterwards, and a couple days later the squirrel was back in the same container (and I have lots of different plants in pots), so I used a trap to get rid of the problem. I am wondering if anyone had used cayenne pepper? This year for the first time mulching containers, I am mulching with buckwheat hulls and that may help (the impatiens were pre-potted from Lowes and hadn't been mulched). I like the look of the buckwheat hulls, though it doesn't take long for annuals to cover the soil here in Georgia. Most of my plants are in the backyard behind a fence. Rabbits can be a problem too. Agastache and asparagus fern are great plants too.

I'm trying used coffee grounds. I've heard that squirrels don't like the smell, so they won't dig in the planters to hide their nuts. Hope it works.

Score‘s will go to any lengths to eat tropical hibiscus trees. I used to grow them in my deck planters and they were gorgeous. But the squirrels will come in and not only eat the flowers but they break all the branches. So I’ve had to switch to Palm trees instead. I don’t like it nearly as well, but nothing eats the palm trees- yet anyway.
Beware of groundhog damage if you live in a wooded area! They LOVE sweet potato vine. They eat the leaves, leaving the leaf stalks and stems. It’s a great look…🙄
Is there any way you could give a minute to cats and dogs and what’s ok to plant? Almost everyone has cats or dogs or both, and we all worry about that

That’s a better question for an animal expert. There is a lot of disagreement on the topic. The AASPA website maintains a list, but the critique is that many of the plants they list would require your pet eat several plants in their entirety to even get close to having symptoms… and even then the symptoms would likely be mild. Most vets say they rarely have animals come in from ingesting plants (people food is riskier than garden plants). One vet said… they’d be more concerned about your pets killing your plants than the other way around. So I’m not equipped with to knowledge to decipher all that.
If you’re serious about keeping deer away ,build a tall tall fence.
I thought dahlias needed hot sun

Wow, what a fantastic video! All the containers already looks lush despite having fewer plants in them - and your substitutes - vs. the original recipe recommendations… I really appreciate the specific information you provided for doing as you did. And😮😅🫨myword…the list of resistant plants! I’m so glad you said you would provide a list of them, becausemy pen couldn’t keep up with the flurry of information! This will be a video I share AND KEEP for future reference! 🥰

I have multi height predators. In other words rabbits eat the lower flowers groundhogs eat the middle flowers and deer eat the taller ones. If you want to attract groundhogs plant plenty of potato vines! They’ll be so happy! They just eat the leaves, leaving the stem and vine. It’s a shock to go out and see a pot that was overflowing with the vine, stripped to a skeleton of itself. Groundhogs are tenacious too - ours have to climb stairs to a second story deck. No problem for them 😮. Yes we have live traps!
And young deer will try anything and gobble it up before deciding they don’t want to eat it again but it’s too late for the plant. 🙄
