Planting 10,000 Sunflowers!

I’ve been looking forward to this day for months, getting the sunflower field planted is always a huge job to do ,but very satisfying when it’s done! Nearly 2 acres of beautiful sunflowers to be used as a backdrop for family photography, I love seeing all the happy families enjoying the view!
Welcome to my little Homestead, thank you so much for stopping by today. My name is Cody and I operate a very unique small family farm, in Alberta Canada. I focus on innovative thinking when it relates to making money on a homestead in a modern world. I have several businesses running together on our small, 20 acre farm and today I will be working behind the scenes showing you a little bit about what I do here. Please feel free to ask any questions in the comments. I hope you enjoy this week’s video!

my seeder like that on the frame up near the front tires i taped a pound lead weight on each side. that helps give it some momentum so its less jumpy on every dirt clod and you can push harder without the front tire coming up.

You checked to see if you have a hard pan? Was just watching the tiller bouncing up and down. One way to check is to dig up a sunflower plant. Check the tap root. If it is running off to the side. You have a hardpan.

The Blackoil sunflowers i feed my chickens have multiple branches. They come up everything since they are in their manure. 🌻 Have a blessed weekend. 🌻

You worked your butt off doing that. I have the same push planter. Its great for the garden but I've done 1 acre of sunflower and 2 acre of corn. The crapper about the fields is all the dead weed/grass growth getting stuck and grabbed by the small planter. Next time you plant sun flowers try broadcasting but don't over seed it. I've had just as good plants, just don't over seed.

Hi Cody! What seeder are you using? Did you have to make any specific adjustments to get it to dispense the seed?

I used the same earthway seeder for my sunflowers and I had problems with them jamming up in the chute. I think my seeds were larger than yours. I used the sweet corn disc. What kind of sunflowers did you use?

what zone are you in? Thank You for this video, I have been asking so many people how they planted their seed, because I was told that Jang seeder was not that good sometimes it would drop 14 sunflower seeds in a hole etc... and I also want to plant other seeds like zinnias etc... and nobody says anything about planting can you tell me what other crops you do with the seeder?
